I would like a honest opinion do these pricing look fair or they are taking me for a mug. I thought we would hire a Christmas decorators to decorate our home thinking it would be practical to have a company set it up and take it down.

@dikwad I'm almost positive he'd enjoy it.

@Speedweed but what are the rules on pimping our your friends husband?

Sunseaandsand1 · 11/09/2023 21:20

There are children in my daughter’s class at school who are actually homeless & several others who are living in poor quality housing. That’s all I can think when I read this post.

This! Give your money to charity.

EggInANest · 11/09/2023 21:47

I would feel as if I was living in a department store.

Ask them to quote for real reindeer. Please, OP, just to wind them up and give us all a laugh.

JudgeJ · 11/09/2023 21:48

That’s more than I spent on a a car 😧

It's 2x the cost of our first house, I'm really old!

ladygindiva · 11/09/2023 21:48

Onionsandplaydoh · 11/09/2023 21:04

Fucking hell. I spent about £50 last Christmas on new decorations at B&M and thought I'd gone a bit OTT.

I can't advise you, we live in different worlds 😂😂

Same, except I went to the range 🤣

User19543785 · 11/09/2023 21:49

@Cleo888 can you post some pictures of what the finished results look like, is it an online brochure

CoreopsisEverywhere · 11/09/2023 21:50

Seems like an obscene waste of money to me

Biscuitsandgravyforyou · 11/09/2023 21:52

Wow!

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/09/2023 21:52

Some people are taking this thread far too seriously

Andanotherone01 · 11/09/2023 21:52

You’re insane to even consider it

tt9 · 11/09/2023 21:52

OP I will do it for you for 10k, mine will be much better and I will decorate every room.

or you can pay 5k for my basic rate

this is bonkers. if you want to celebrate the true Christmas spirit, please give that money to charity- there are so many charities doing special stuff over Xmas. kids are going hungry in this country. I have nothing against having nice stuff, bit this is pure waste

Guavafish1 · 11/09/2023 21:53

go for it

boobot1 · 11/09/2023 21:53

Cleo888 · 11/09/2023 20:46

I just thought it would be time saving and I was interested in having it done at least once by professionals (home alone vibe!) but nevermind....

Get yourself to home bargains😂

Londisc · 11/09/2023 21:54

So how much would you honestly have been prepared to pay to get someone to put up and take down some fancy Christmas decorations OP? Get your family to do it together, work out the difference in cost, donate that difference to someone who truly needs a bit of help this Christmas. Sit back and admire your work over a drink and a mince pie and feel a bit better about yourself and the world you live in. Don't tell others that this is what you did. Just give your head. a shake and get on with it.

JudgeJ · 11/09/2023 21:55

This reminds me of those pictures showing how Mrs Rooney, an Ecclestone, etc have decorated their homes and your first reaction 'I bet no finger nails were damaged!'.

Cleo888 · 11/09/2023 21:55

Omg 😱 some of the comments are pretty savage.
I absolutely do not intend to spend 7.5k on Christmas decorations thank you!
I am heading to primark 😳

Blazzingsaddos · 11/09/2023 21:56

How much did you think it would be?

JudgeJ · 11/09/2023 21:58

ladygindiva · 11/09/2023 21:48

Same, except I went to the range 🤣

When my OH died the first Christmas I bought a Balsm Hill artificial tree' as he'd cursed like mad man-handling the real tree. and I thought that had been an extravagance. This year I'm in profit looking at the price of real trees where we used to go!

FannyBawz · 11/09/2023 21:59

Imagine what you could do with that money for a food bank … or any Christmas charity.

It’s a disgusting & vulgar waste of money IMO

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 11/09/2023 22:00

SushiSuave · 11/09/2023 21:34

If you're unsure then you should definitely pay it. You can clearly afford it so why not make the company's Christmas by spending a disgusting amount of money on decorations?

Or consider donating to a food bank or present bank to help all the families that can't afford a gift for their kids or a decent hot meal on Christmas Day.... priorities right?

This.

Whatsgoingon12345 · 11/09/2023 22:00

I’m sure others have said this - but isn’t putting up the decorations part if the fun? Or just don’t put so many up. It can’t be that hard to hang a garland on a door.
and do you really need swags in the kitchen?! But I’m sure it will look spectacular, but maybe a bit soulless - like a hotel.
love to see pics and be proved wrong !

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 11/09/2023 22:00

I would LOVE to see the end result! I'm imaging Home Alone...

Whatsgoingon12345 · 11/09/2023 22:01

Ooh yes! Massive garlands !

saxamaxa · 11/09/2023 22:02

Op you were probably expecting £500 or so but done professionally. £7.5k is a joke. I'm guessing people living in Chelsea in those townhouses probably pay that to decorate outside their homes and massive Xmas trees inside as well.

Bunnycat101 · 11/09/2023 22:02

I suspect their pricing is actually pretty standard as they’ll be used to dealing with millionaires and corporates and presumably need to make the bulk of the money during a small window in December unless they do other events. It probably isn’t aimed at people looking at what you want which seems to be a one-off treat. You might find something a bit less high end if you still want to look.

It reminds me a bit of when I got some quotes from a garden designer. I hadn’t quite realised she was proper ‘high end’ and spent £1500 getting drawings done which were nice enough and didn’t seem particularly bonkers. i then had the shock of my life when the first quote came back at ‘starting from £80k’. We swiftly parted ways. My lesson learnt now is to always discuss budget upfront and check you’re in the right ballpark otherwise it’s just a waste of everyone’s time.
