Hello,

I would like a honest opinion do these pricing look fair or they are taking me for a mug. I thought we would hire a Christmas decorators to decorate our home thinking it would be practical to have a company set it up and take it down.

Will you be able to charge for viewings?

titchy · 11/09/2023 20:20

Literally money for old rope! Why on earth would you spent that? Isn't half the fun of Christmas getting your own decorations out and putting them up? For that money you could buy a ton of stuff from selfridges and pay an art student to put them up.

HoraceTheLlama · 11/09/2023 20:20

That’s more than I spent on a a car 😧

but if you want it and can afford it then do it if that’s what’s going to make you happy. I can think of other things I’d spent £7.5k on. Well £30k over 4 years if I’m reading that right?

Does this price include the purchase of the decs or the installation or both?

It does sound rather a lot if just installation only. That said my in laws in the US spend about the equivalent to decorate their home, though I don't think they own the decorations!

BlueKaftan · 11/09/2023 20:22

For that money you could take a great winter holiday.

Yes you're reading right 30k!!! I was flabbergasted 😲

And now you know why people do their own decorations consisting of child painted pine cones and home made pom pom robins with fairy lights from IKEA and a multipack of baubles

ohboohoo · 11/09/2023 20:23

Sounds ridiculous. You could style an entire house for less then that. It's also random. Why are the stair garlands do much? How huge is your stair case? Is it a double entry 3 level staircase?

rockpoolingtogether · 11/09/2023 20:24

I'm confused. Are you mega wealthy with a huge house and not wanting the stress of decorating for Xmas?

Sunshineclouds11 · 11/09/2023 20:24

How big is your house 😅

HowDoesThisWorkPlease · 11/09/2023 20:25

I'm also wondering if this is some Petra Ecclestone type set up or a normal house!?

WelshNerd · 11/09/2023 20:26

What is happening?

The whole thing put me off to be honest!

How much did you think it was going to cost?

MuchTooTired · 11/09/2023 20:27

I’ve no idea if that’s a fair price or not. Some of it doesn’t look too unreasonable, and I’m assuming you have a mansion as opposed to a tiny terrace!

I wouldn’t spend that money on decorations even if I had it to spare, but that’s because my personal decor for Christmas is as ghastly and clashing as possible.

Are you happy with the price, and have other quotes come out around the same figure?

More background needed, do you manage a stately home that is rented out for weddings, if so the owners must be paying.

Nohelpfromdr · 11/09/2023 20:29

That is a lot, you could get some really lovely decorations yourself and keep them in storage the rest of the year for far less, if you’re extremely busy I can see why you might consider this type of service but there’s something lovely about putting Christmas music on, drinks and mince pies / cakes and feeling festive doing it yourself with family and friends - could you outsource other household tasks to facilitate that instead ?

memote · 11/09/2023 20:29

Do you live in a castle?
The prices seem odd, eg I think 1k for a tree is too cheap but £550 for a kitchen garland seems way too high

Ozziedream · 11/09/2023 20:29

Why don’t you just go to the Christmas light company or similar and buy all your own stuff?

I spent £2k buying half your list and now I have it for as long as it lasts. I do have a room to store it in though as it’s very bulky. If you can afford to drop that much annually I’m guessing you have a few spare rooms though.

Helenahandkart · 11/09/2023 20:30

I love putting up my decorations. Every bauble has a memory attached to it.
It sounds so sterile and soulless to get a company in.
Makes me feel a bit sad.

rockpoolingtogether · 11/09/2023 20:24

I wish no the house is regular size!
They are not decorating everywhere just the rooms from the breakdown.
I was just looking for convenience that it! But didn't think the price for practicality and convenience would be 7.5k!!!
