Anyone else want to keep their Christmas tree up?

I really don't want to take my tree down this year. We have two up and they both look so lovely and feel like they haven't been up long enough (even though we put them up on 1st December!)

Lots of our neighbours have taken their trees and lights down now but I'm holding out for one more day and will do it tomorrow... 🥺

2 of ours have come down today , still got 1 up at the moment . We put ours up at the start of advent so they’ve been up a while but it didn’t seem so long this year .

Never take mine down until the day after New Year. The lights are part of New Years Eve celebrations and it’s nice to think of Bews Years Day as a holiday ( even though I work).
Usually have the down after that whilst I’m full of New Years motivation for a clean fresh start. My birthdays not long after so I’m onto that rather than 12th night.

Tiredmum100 · 31/12/2022 19:04

I've taken all mine down today. We have plans tomorrow and I am in work all week, so I don't fancy doing it after work. I like a clean fresh tidy house for new year as well. I just find decorations to much like clutter. I dont put the tree and decs up super early either usually the 2nd or 3rd week of December. I do love fairy lights though!

QueefQueen80s · 31/12/2022 19:07

I have fairylights on indoor plants all year which defo helps!
Fairylights on the window and mantel etc.
I do love my tree 😭 but also relieved to clear it all away.

CornishPasty101 · 31/12/2022 19:12

Mine is down. I want to rearrange the lounge and declutter so it had to go!

RightOnTheEdge · 31/12/2022 19:55

I usually take mine down today or tomorrow because I want to have everything clean and put away to start the new year but I really dont want to take mine down now.
We moved into a new house a couple of months ago and I got a new tree which really was too expensive but it's beautiful and looks so cosy!

Leave it as long as you wish, our postman was still tripping over our life-size nativity scene spread across the front gargen at Easter.

It was only when he barged into the donkey, knocking it's head off and into the manger that we decided to move it into the back garden.

The kids love it there, although all three of the Kings have now lost their crowns and there is some doubt as to whether Mary is still a virgin. 😳

Mine will be up until 12th night.

Same here, I ❤️My tree.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 31/12/2022 20:59

Couldn't wait to take ours down today 🤣
Kids like it up on 1st of December and I'm fed up of it by Christmas

Mine only came down 'some time in spring' and I don't see it being any different next year Grin

Do you really keep it up that long? I think that's brilliant! 😍 It really does feel like we only have them up for such a short time, and I'm an end of November to twelfth night type.

I used to take it down pre new year and try and decorate for spring, but I've realised there's no rush and I now embrace the winter season. I can keep up evergreen foliage until spring :)

Honeyroar · 31/12/2022 21:42

I couldn’t be bothered putting any inside ones up this year. We have a large real one with lights in a tub outside the front window, and cards up, so looks festive along with nice candles. I’ll take the lights down on Wednesday. Then it’s candles and flowers to keep morale up.

I have a little coffee kiosk that has been decorated. I think I’m going to keep some lights up for now, the string of red lights look good with the Valentine’s decorations too!

caroleanboneparte · 31/12/2022 22:04

We'll see if we can last until the end of January.

Never before 5/1.

pursudebyablackdog · 31/12/2022 22:23

12th night, to be fair ours only goes up a week before Christmas!

Crucible · 31/12/2022 22:25

Leaving mine up til Candlemas, and I'm going to try planting it after that...it may be folly and I have no idea what I'm doing.

TotallyAverage · 31/12/2022 22:28

We'll keep it up for another week even though we're back at work from Wednesday. We'll just take it down next Saturday. Before then feels far too soon. We did keep it up until February once and that was probably a bit too long.

Yogity · 31/12/2022 22:28

My SIL kept hers up until Candlemas during lockdown in 2020/21 and one of her neighbours reported her to her HA and requested a welfare check 😯

I don't see any harm in leaving it up a little longer. I normally take mine down after the Twelfth night but will be (sadly) taking it down on Monday as I need DH help and he will be busy from Tuesday

ChigedyJigHeeHawHeeHawItsDominicTheDonkey · 31/12/2022 23:17

I'd love to keep mine up cos I find it so cozy and relaxing sitting in the dark watching it twinkling away. However if DCat chomps on it anymore it'll be even more thread bare than it already is so I've a feeling mines going to be coming down either Monday or Tuesday. Going to leave the bedroom one up a while longer though. He's only interested in chomping on that one if I don't get up quick enough to feed him.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/12/2022 23:20

Yes, until the 6th, anyway. Ours still looks gorgeous.

Are the Twelfth Night people keeping it up after going back to work/school? It's Tuesday here. Would you expect schools still to have theirs up? My DC went to church schools and they had the tree and decorations down for the start of new term.

I was big into the whole twelfth night + little Christmas thing when DS was little. We used to do something special for each of the 12 days, including a special magic breakfast on the 5th. I assumed we'd keep doing it as when I was a kid we never returned to school before the 7th but schools tend to go back on the 5th now. So we go to the magic breakfast now on the morning he goes back to school. And then I'll pack up when he's at school.

That said. I have an extensive fitness routine that I follow for most of the year and let slide in late December. So I enjoy getting the decorations cleared away and my gym stuff back out. So from Friday onwards, I'll be really enjoying some hard workouts. It's kind of great because I love January now as it's just my time to focus on my body. To the point that the Jan 2021 lockdown was one of my favourite times ever as I just worked out for hours every day.

Wexone · 01/01/2023 21:24

mine will stay up till the 6th. lucky its a Friday and will take the day off work (as I got nothing done over Xmas due to being sick and have loads of hols go take) to take it down and bring it to the recycling centre. which has only opened this week for tree shredding. yes I am back to work on the 3rd. my office will still have its decorations up and they will be taken down sometime this week (contractors come in and do them ) I am a big traditionalist tree doesn't go up till after the 8th December and doesn't come down till around the 6th depending on how it falls. I hate how bare the house looks without tye decorations. January is depressing enough. thank god here in Ireland we will have a bank hol the beginning of Feb. countdown is on to that

caroleanboneparte · 08/01/2023 08:24

Still up.

Want to hold out as long as possible!

TheaBrandt · 08/01/2023 08:31

Sorry but referring to “candlemass” makes you sound like a time traveller from the Middle Ages.

Love Christmas but find decs after mid jan abit depressing somehow
