Anyone else want to keep their Christmas tree up?

I really don't want to take my tree down this year. We have two up and they both look so lovely and feel like they haven't been up long enough (even though we put them up on 1st December!)

Lots of our neighbours have taken their trees and lights down now but I'm holding out for one more day and will do it tomorrow... 🥺

12th night here always.

WickedSerious · 31/12/2022 17:10

We're away until Monday,I'm dreading going home and putting everything away.
I hate how bare and miserable the house looks with the trees and decorations gone.

Me too. I hate 6 January and putting all the pretty things away.

I always take mine down on 12th night and just can't understand why other people don't!

If 12th night is on a weekday (which 5 years in 7 it is) then I don't have time to do it. So the choice is either the weekend before, or dragging it out to the weekend after.

Mine came down yesterday. House is full of fresh flowers.

Lovely idea. We’re on holiday but we usually take our tree and decorations down before NY as I like everything away to start clean and tidy for the new year but will get definitely get lots of flowers .

Sarahcoggles · 31/12/2022 17:32

I usually leave everything up till 12th night but this year I'm finding it really depressing, not sure why. I feel like the exciting buzz of Christmas has passed. We've also been away for a couple of days and came back yesterday, so I've got a slight post holiday flat feeling. And I'm back at work next week after 10 days off. So all in all, it makes me want to clear it all away and get back to normal, so I don't keep remembering how happy we all were a week ago!

I really struggle taking mine down. I think it comes from when I was 16, my Dad was taking our tree down on the 3rd January. He announced that my DM (who had been treated for cancer for 18 months) was coming home to die. I genuinely had no idea that she would die. (Naive I know) So now every year, my tree has to be down by the 3rd and I dread the day coming. I was looking at string lights on line to help me transition. I hate it.....

I'm so sorry, that is heart breaking.

Me too. I hate 6 January and putting all the pretty things away.

I usually do it a bit at a time so it's less of a shock to the system.

kerstina · 31/12/2022 17:41

I do keep one of my trees up all year . It’s the light cluster one from John Lewis .I switch it on intermittently throughout the year . Cheers me up.
I was going to say I don’t get the mentality of people who take everything down on Boxing Day but as Spudina outlined people have their personal reasons .

PolkaDotMankini · 31/12/2022 17:44

Have yours up as long as you like. Ours came down today so it's a fresh start for 2023, but you do you.

YouWouldNotBelieveIt · 31/12/2022 17:45

No, I've been sick of seeing it, so it went up in the loft today.

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/12/2022 17:45

I'm taking mine down on Monday. Can't wait. Not being a grinch but Xmas is over and I can't see the point of prolonging it when everybody is back at school and work next week. Plus I want my tidy front room back! It's been lovely, but time to go!

LadyLapsang · 31/12/2022 17:57

Our will stay indoors and decorated until Twelfth Night, but it was only brought inside on the 23rd.

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2022 18:03

Are the Twelfth Night people keeping it up after going back to work/school? It's Tuesday here. Would you expect schools still to have theirs up? My DC went to church schools and they had the tree and decorations down for the start of new term.

WaddleAway · 31/12/2022 18:04

Ours will be up until next weekend.

Yes, my children go back to school on Tuesday so our tree will still be up. I have been back to work this week anyway, so would have to have taken them down on Boxing Day if I wanted them down before I went back to work. I don’t expect school or workplaces etc to have theirs up, it’s entirely up to them what they do! I just like to keep ours up until 12th night.

3peassuit · 31/12/2022 18:10

12 th night for me. The room always looks at a bit empty when it goes so I’ll get
some fresh flowers to cheer it up.

Oh, ok. I too worked throughout Christmas, so it was hard to know what day of the week it was sometimes but the rest of my family broke up 23rd and go back on 3rd Jan, I've never kept the decorations up past when they go back to work.

stargirl1701 · 31/12/2022 18:17

Ours will be up until Twelfth Night but schools don't return until the 9th here.

I'm so sorry Flowers how brutal of your Dad, but maybe he was struggling to accept it too.

Not everybody. My teen DC school goes back Monday 9th so DH and I are taking until then off to! Lots of fun still to be had! Grin

Wheredoallthepensgo · 31/12/2022 18:25

12th Night here! But we don't put ours up ridiculously early so we are still enjoying it!

MsJuniper · 31/12/2022 18:35

We always do twelfth night but this year I am going to take down most of the Christmas decorations on Monday so I have time to organise them all back into the right boxes before the rollercoaster of school term starts. We might take the tree outside on Tuesday as we don't have a large living space and we can put the furniture back.

I do feel sad when they come down though, yes. Definitely not one of those "Boxing Day itch" people although always enjoy looking for that annual thread!

cliffdiver · 31/12/2022 18:35

Ours came down today.

Accompanied by the obligatory "Ohhh, doesn't the house look huge!" Comments.

Phos · 31/12/2022 18:57

I'm ready to take them down this week.
