Got everything except sprouts and a turkey!

The sprouts in Tesco were dated today and the smallest turkey was huge. Went to Sainsbury’s and couldn’t park so I will try Morrison’s later. Plan b is turkey slices from a packet even though teenage dc has already requested chicken instead of turkey anyway. Fortunately only cooking for me and the dc this year!

How’s your food shopping going and have you managed to get everything?

Dh got the food yesterday morning
I went to tesco this afternoon and it was mobbed

Jinglecrunch · 23/12/2022 14:04

Get a chicken

HarlotOTara · 23/12/2022 14:04

Why did you not order in advance?

QforCucumber · 23/12/2022 14:04

Picked up Turkey crown from the butchers last week and stuck it in the freezer - must remember to take it out tonight actually

everything else I got last night bar a Cauliflower which I cannot get my hands on anywhere at all!

Slimjimtobe · 23/12/2022 14:05

got everything in 20 mins in Aldi this morning no problems at all

We never order in advance tbh

iloveredwine · 23/12/2022 14:06

Asda had everything yesterday. Was busy but not awful

HerLadySheep · 23/12/2022 14:06

My DH ordered a Turkey breast from the butchers and has collected it. As we are trying to feed 8 full sized adults and not Borrowers I have sent him and his 1.5kg of Turkey breast back out into the cold to see what else he can find!

Also my trifle is in the bin because it turned into a sloppy disaster.

I am trying to remain calm 😕

DancingSober · 23/12/2022 14:08

DH is collecting the turkey from the butchers just now. I got carrots, parsnips and sprouts yesterday. We have a click and collect slot later this afternoon, so hopefully that will be everything (but last time I checked, DH hadn't got the email confirming what has been substituted / unavailable so it could all go horribly wrong 😬)

Iamblossom · 23/12/2022 14:09

Lidl last week for meat and Aldi this morning for the rest. Had loads of everything and nice and quiet.

I won't ever do tescos again now, rubbish

I've never ordered anything in advance. We just went to Morrisons at 7 am this morning and got everything we needed. We're not having turkey this year, but we usually go to the farm shop and get a joint from there.

But a date on sprouts is meaningless, as long as they look reasonably OK today, they'll be fine on Sunday. I bought some a week ago that haven't been opened and are probably already passed the date on the packet, but they'll probably be OK for NYD let alone Christmas Day. OP, I think in your position, I'd have just bought a chicken to get the job done and thought no more about it.

Hopeyoursproutsarealreadyon · 23/12/2022 14:11

Dh has returned with our turkey. The receipt of which I had to look at several times... Maybe pre menopausal affects eyesight? <clings on to hope >..
Nope it def says an 8 and a 2..
.in that order...
Maybe afford a loaf to make sandwiches ...

Haveahappyholiday · 23/12/2022 14:12

The sprouts looked a bit curled on the edges already so they wouldn’t keep for Christmas Day. I usually get a small turkey joint from Tesco but there were none today or yesterday.

Going to collect now. They've subbed my favourite Christmas cake with something way cheaper and I imagine not nearly as nice. I'm distraught, as I guess they won't be getting anymore now. Other subs have been acceptable (one being the Boxing Day ham but I'm fine with what they are providing which is just another brand).

BaublesandBangles · 23/12/2022 14:16

The Co op had loads of turkey crowns. I ignore BB dates on veg tbh.

pinneddownbytabbies · 23/12/2022 14:18

They had a pallet-load of sprouts in the Lidl I was in about an hour ago. I seem to remember seeing fresh turkeys too.

bigbluebus · 23/12/2022 14:20

Cockerel collected from farm shop today (pre ordered). Veg bought from the market yesterday except for spuds which I bought a 12.5kg sack of direct from the farm on Tuesday. Ham bought from another farm shop on Monday.

£82 for a turkey?????😳

Ilikewinter · 23/12/2022 14:26

Lots of stuff was dated 23/24th in Tescos yesterday, I went to Asda at 6.30am this morning and got everything. Shelves were full, or being filled and decent dates on all fresh food.

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2022 14:27

There's a long line just to get in to the parking lot! SW London Waitrose.

Judellie · 23/12/2022 14:28

Were there no frozen sprouts? I usually try that if no fresh.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/12/2022 14:28

I saw a news story earlier about one that was £147 in Morrisons - it was a naice free range one at £20 kilo and a big beast of 7.7 kg or somesuch (16 pounds in old money?) but still.

Harrysmummy246 · 23/12/2022 14:31

The sprouts would have been fine and if DC don't want a turkey, why are you bothering....

BarbaraofSeville · 23/12/2022 14:33

Morrisons £147 turkey

If you can hold your nerve and have a back up, there will be stuff like that for sale at 90% off this time tomorrow.

I popped in to Aldi about an hour before closing last year as I was out anyway. The shop was dead and there were some real bargains on fresh food. Sadly we didn't have any room in our fridge or freezer otherwise I'd have picked up a few things.
