Waitrose - no meat being delivered…..

I’m just fucked off and wanting a moan
Ordered a rib of beef from their Entertaining range months ago, to be delivered this evening as the Christmas meat. Got the email about what is being delivered and guess what? No beef! So no meat for Christmas Day, 10 people coming, a house to get clean and children to entertain and now have to try and find a joint of beef.

Also not being delivered - Christmas pudding, Yule log, cheese, booze…. Basically we have to now go and do a full shop. It’s fine, we can, DH is home and we can drive, we are lucky…..

If they’d even said sorry I wouldn’t mind, but the woman I spoke to in customer services was the rudest most dismissive person I think I’ve ever dealt with in a Customer Service context. I’m in a mood now and I don’t want to be, it’s Christmas!!!

Ocado order had everything - and loads of offers on m and s Xmas foods - definitely recommend them.

speakout · 23/12/2022 14:36

I would never rely on a food delivery so close to christmas.
It usually takes me 2/3 stores as most places are out of something- I assume deliveries would be too.

TheDogsMother · 23/12/2022 14:39

I got the meat from the butchers and Sainsbury's Delivery is due later. Only thing missing is single pints of milk.

AWaferThinMint · 23/12/2022 14:40

I have Sainsbury's delivering everything in the next couple of hours. A few swaps but all for sensible things so not upset. Not had sight of dates yet though!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/12/2022 14:41

Nanasueathome · 23/12/2022 13:59

I had my Ocado order yesterday evening
Everything there. No subs
Ocado have been really good for me this year

They've been fine for products in stock but 2 weeks running my frozen stuff has been defrosting. I've claimed refunds and complained but it's annoying as it can't be refrozen so has been wasted.

IhearyouClemFandango · 23/12/2022 14:42

Ordering from the entertaining range isn’t a standard order though. We ordered our tourney from Tesco and the last date would have cancelled it was the 14th, so it ought to be allocated and available.

IhearyouClemFandango · 23/12/2022 14:42

Nothing missing from Tesco btw

speakout · 23/12/2022 14:43

One christmas I want to
get my food shopping close to the wire.
Last christmas eve the mark downs were astounding- 75% off turkeys and meats, packets of stuffing for 10p I could have bought a whole huge meal at a fraction of the cost.
OH and I are not fussy, so would be happy with most things, a vegan roast, pork,
gammon, turkey.
However other family members are a bit fussier.

Toomanysquishmallows · 23/12/2022 14:43

this Christmas, I have found Iceland to be really good . Sainsburys had no Jacobs crackers , but I managed to find some in the local newsagent.

antelopevalley · 23/12/2022 14:44

Cook always deliver you exactly what you order. But obviously what you can get is limited.

Willowswood · 23/12/2022 14:44

I never get my Christmas shop delivered for this very reason. You can't trust all the items will come, then you have to go to the shops anyway.

I found the supermarkets perfectly fine this year for Christmas food shopping, and I work full time, 13 hour shifts.

speakout · 23/12/2022 14:45

Willowswood I am guessing you are a nurse?

LivIoe · 23/12/2022 14:48

Morrisons delivered a full order, plus 45 min early (after a polite driver rung first). I was impressed

Crikeyalmighty · 23/12/2022 14:49

I don't do online ordering anymore as I'm lucky enough to have every single supermarket posh and budget within 2 miles- including several big ones in the centre . Meat from the butchers and farm shop. I just buy all the non date dependent stuff 10 days before and then 2 or 3 smaller shops for fresh yesterday and today. I found I was better able to get some really good bargains by 'in person' - which I freeze when possible .

autienotnaughty · 23/12/2022 14:49

Asda today 3 unavailable and 20 subs. No sprouts , red cabbage, Brie, crackers or posh gravy

FlamingoSocks · 23/12/2022 12:51

Agreed, not bothering with them again. I switched last year from Ocado and it’s been OK, lots of subs and missing but I assumed that was sector wide. If you can’t preorder a huge joint of beef for delivery on a certain day then the delivery service isn’t really a delivery service is it.
Morrisons now deliver to my area so will give them a go instead.

Just my experience. Have stayed with Ocado.
Webpage states that everything bar a spanish omelette on a huge Christmas shop is being delivered OK. All meat, veg, treats etc OK. Ocado have been really good all year and haven't let me down. Customer service is also excellent if anthing goes wrong I find.

CottonSock · 23/12/2022 14:54

I didn't trust tesco with my Christmas meat. Greendale farm shop delivered for about 1/3 cheaper.

JusteanBiscuits · 23/12/2022 14:54

Got my receipt this morning for this evenings delivery. Only one item not being delivered - and that was quickly bought in a local small shop. Yay!

Zimtsterne · 23/12/2022 14:57

I've ordered from Farmison's the last two years. Lovely meat, arrives when it says it will, and I paid for it in September, so by the time December rolls around, it kind of feels like it is free Xmas Grin

This year I got individual chicken ballotine thingies, prepped goose fat roast potatoes, bacon, pigs in blankets, dauphinoise potatoes and gravy.

Chocolates, cheese, crackers, treats and desserts all bought in the last few weeks, veg earlier this week.

Anewhoo · 23/12/2022 15:01

I’ve had waitrose for years and it’s Beene amazing. You have to order before the 15th for Christmas items to be guaranteed. I’ve not had any subs and received the full order.

windmill26 · 23/12/2022 15:03

This happened to us a few Christmases ago. We marched into our closest Waitrose and spoke (complained) to the manager . He told us to go around the store and put in the trolley suitable replacement for Christmas dinner at no charge to us. He was so apologetic and gracious that before we left he even tried to give us a bottle of Champagne (we refused as we don't drink). From then on we have done our Christmas shopping in the stores,a bit from Marks and bits from Waitrose and Sainsburys as I refuse to find myself in the same predicament.

PrincePrecious · 23/12/2022 15:05

My Ocado order was delivered yesterday. Thankfully everything there except for some hyacinths. And one type of aluminium foil substituted. It is a bit of a gamble every year that something crucial and christmassy might not come. While you can just suck it up if it's a bag of clementines or a bit of cheese, it is very very annoying and inconvenient if it's the meat from your Christmas dinner. And to have a sympathy-free reaction from Customer Services would really piss me off. Though I don't have a car or a DH to put things right.

Pterrydactyl · 23/12/2022 15:09

I’ve seen a few pp’s mentioning that Jacobs crackers were missing off their orders.

The staff at the main Jacobs cracker factory first took strike action over pay in September, then moved to a permanent strike in mid November, and the strike ended about a fortnight ago.

We haven’t seen our autistic DC’s favourite variety of Jacobs crackers on any supermarket shelf for over a month, and the other varieties of Jacobs crackers, and crackers from alternative brands have been in increasingly short supply. Which can only have been made worse by Christmas, what with cheese and crackers being a popular choice of nibbles at this time of year.

Even now that the striking cracker factory workers have returned to work, it’s bound to take some time for cracker stocks in the supermarkets to return to normal.
It’s annoying if you want to eat crackers, but it’s outside of the supermarkets control.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/12/2022 15:12

Just wandered down my local High Street. Local butchers & the Co op still have loads of turkeys and everything else. Shortage of icing sugar!
Like so many, I wouldn't rely on online deliveries so close to Christmas - too unreliable .

thelobsterquadrille · 23/12/2022 15:14

I did our shop in Tesco this morning - the shelves were heaving and I got everything we needed.

There were chickens and turkeys, joints of beef and lamb, gammon and hams - as well as all the trimmings you'd need, tonnes of vegetables and desserts, alcohols, chocolates, snacks...

It was busy but not insane and I was in/out within half an hour. There's no way I'd rely on the online shop when going in person is so easy.
