Christmas isn't Christmas without ........

..... today I bought the three things without which, to me anyway, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas -

A copy of The Radio Times, some fresh walnuts and several bags of those chocolate coins in foil. Small things, but I just can't do Christmas without them.

Anyone else got any small, but essential Christmas "must haves"?

My experiance is mine and is fact... you dont get to argue with it.

@mam0918

um it’s not a fact, it’s your experience.

they are two different things.

I have a different experience.

I am allowed to share that as much as you are allowed to share yours.

👍

@mam0918

you must have really lacked an imagination/ social life if you couldn’t enjoy and celebrate Christmas before you had kids!

How has imagination or social life got ANYTHING to do with xmas? lol

I had a massive social life, hense why I always had people insist I spend it with them, I didn't want to because it was miserable but still got forced to because apparently no one can accept that you can be happier alone not celebrating a holiday that lets face it has no meaning to the original purpose anymore.

Its really sad that some adults can't possibly imagine being happier by themselves not jumping through the hoops of social expectation... I mean mumsnet is litrally FULL of drama threads of how no one get the xmas they ACTUALLY wanted and ended up miserable instead.

Modern xmas traditions (Santa and the whimsy of that) as it stands is great with kids but just useless without... I can eat a roast and hang out with friends/family (without the added stress/tention everyone feels on xmas day) ANY day of the year.

As an ADULT what do you do on 'xmas' that you couldn't do litrally any other day of the year?

My experiance IS fact, im not 'lying' about it and you dont get to undermine and discredit it.

You experiances maybe different but my experiance is still a FACT.

The Radio Times is on our list too. Never bought at any other time of year.

I would also say satsumas. Usually in a stocking and then found going mouldy a few days later. But they have to be present in the house somewhere.

Mrsjayy · 17/12/2022 10:13

It doesn't mean that everyone else is miserable though nobody actually discredited you they just said adults can and do enjoy Christmas.

@mam0918 As an adult what can I do on Christmas Day that I can't do any other time of the year ? Have a Christmas tree, make the house festive, buy festive food etc etc etc. We love it.

But in answer to the original question Christmas isn't Christmas without Baileys, Twiglets, After Eights, Christmas Radio Times, love Actually.

My children are adults we enjoy Christmas still what a really sad point of view that adults can't enjoy Christmas.

Exactly I love Christmas and I’m single now but this year will be the best for many a year. The magic is around I’ve had miracles given to me this December.

SirenSays · 17/12/2022 14:49

My younger two watch a Christmas film EVERY DAY after school. It used to infuriate me but now it's like a lovely little countdown tradition.

Bailey's.

Lego. We buy our kids a Lego set each every year (even now they're teens) and we build it together Boxing Day. It's the firmest tradition we have.

Fancy cheese in the fridge.

Homemade biscotti (although this year I'll have to try gluten free biscotti - not sure they'll be the same 😬)
