Christmas isn't Christmas without ........

..... today I bought the three things without which, to me anyway, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas -

A copy of The Radio Times, some fresh walnuts and several bags of those chocolate coins in foil. Small things, but I just can't do Christmas without them.

Anyone else got any small, but essential Christmas "must haves"?

After eights. Don't even like them that much.

yes! I got carried away after reading the bargain thread and bought 3 packs for £5. I know I’ll eat them and end up feeling sick.

BooksAndHooks · 16/12/2022 21:43

Peppermint bark in recent years. Couldn’t do without it now.

red pickled cabbage

mulled wine

WorriedMillie · 16/12/2022 21:45

My mum’s bread sauce!

Maddie Priors Christmas cd (& her belting out Gaudete when she was in Steeleye Span)

Lighting our advent candle each evening, snuggling in front of the fire to just enjoy looking forward to Christmas while it burns down.

Our nativity set.

It's not Christmas in my house if those things aren't there.

Fomn · 16/12/2022 21:49

Cranberry sauce and Brussel sprouts. Love them both but for some reason only ever have them at Christmas so to me they're what makes a roast dinner into a Christmas dinner.

Knackeredmommy · 16/12/2022 21:49

Toffifee, Ferrero Rocher and a Christmas ham

VickerishAllsort · 16/12/2022 21:51

A bottle of Baileys and dark chocolate Brazils.

Backtoblack1 · 16/12/2022 22:00

@Bogglebrain I can't find the bargain thread (or I'm being blind) but would love to know where I can pick up 3 boxes of after eights for a fiver! They're my Christmas must have! Thanks in advance!

squashyhat · 16/12/2022 22:05

A picture advent calendar. I am nearly 62 and have never not had one.

A stocking. Ditto

A birthday cake. Although I arrived in a hospital rather than a stable.

It was an Amazon offer a few weeks ago so probably not on now.

SoMuchToBits · 16/12/2022 22:28

But also home made mince pies, lots of Christmas music and my lovely ds (now 22) who will be home for Christmas!) Xmas Smile

MadameDe · 16/12/2022 22:30

Lots of pork products. The rule for Christmas food - if you don't know what to do with it, wrap it in bacon.

Diversion · 16/12/2022 22:31

Christmas helium balloons, one for each child, now adult tied to the back of each dining chair. The tradition started when my eldest child was 2 and is now almost 33. There are now 3 grandchildren and each has a balloon to take home with them. The 4th balloon this year will be released in memory of my beloved Mum who we have just lost. Not eco friendly I will admit, but right now I couldn't give a fig!

WimbyAce · 16/12/2022 22:31

Candy canes and Yule Log. However most of the candy canes end up getting thrown away and I end up never being fussed about the Yule Log as too much else to eat 😅

ChillyFingers · 16/12/2022 22:33

Those horrible, dry Pannetonne things. DH always insists on buying a massive one every year. DC won’t eat it so I have to eat some!

The big toasting marshmallows which we sit outside to toast over the bbq (use wood in it) wrapped up with mugs of hot choc after having Nigellas ham in coke in freshly baked baguettes while watching a Christmas movie for Christmas Eve tea. A Christmas tradition for about 15 years now. We used to scatter a path to the house with Reindeer food afterwards but DC too old now!

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 16/12/2022 22:40
