Does anyone do a stocking for themselves?

Leviosa · 26/11/2022 19:10

Hi there, I love small gifts, and really enjoy doing a stocking each year for DS. We never had stockings growing up (tiny violins) and DH declared a few years back that stockings are, in his opinion, just for kids. But part of me really wants to do just a little stocking for myself, with tiny, lovely things.

Sigh. Just leave it at fantasy?

Does anyone else do their own stocking? Please tell me I'm not alone!

Do yourself a stocking !
dp sounds joyless

so whatca going to get !
my stocking will have
a Christmassy paperback
a decent mascara
a bar of beautiful soap
some chocolates
a Christmas bauble , of some type
a fancy pen
Pretty thank you cards

UpsilonPi · 26/11/2022 19:23

I did one last year. Every single thing in it I wanted.

isitjust · 26/11/2022 19:23

Yes how is the whole story even believable if you don't get a stocking!!
You get some lovely things for yourself xx

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 26/11/2022 19:25

I do one for myself. I sort everyone else's out so I don't see why I should miss out. Buy all the tiny lovely things you want x

N0va · 26/11/2022 19:26

Luckily my mum has always done one (apart from this year, children only!)

But definitely do one for yourself!

Things I've enjoyed in mine
Chocolate
Hot chocolate spoon things (etsy or local)
Bath bombs
Clarins lip oil
Lush lip scrub
Book
Coffee gift card
Phone case
Unusual food items to try
Socks!
Skincare bits
Diary
Planner
Post it's
Stationary

Another idea (probably for next year) but sign up for free samples, there's Facebook pages that list them and use a different email address, collect the ones you like the look of throughout the year and then put them in your stocking! If you wrap them as you get them you'll forget what you've got!

Moonlightsonatas · 26/11/2022 19:26

I saved up all my Boots points for the year and blew them all getting little treats for myself. Do it!!

fruitstick · 26/11/2022 19:27

Ooh I would love this.

I would have

  • a beautiful notebook
  • a new pair of gloves
  • some chocolate covered orange peel
  • some posh hot chocolate
  • some ink for my fountain pen.
  • a new lipstick
Gemstar2 · 26/11/2022 19:31

Yep I’m doing one for myself after my SIL totally ruined this family tradition for us with her twatty judgement of us doing secret Santa style stockings. It’s been the best Christmas shopping I’ve done, choosing nice things for myself! Go for it OP!

TinfoilTwat · 26/11/2022 19:34

Lovely idea OP. Go for it.

ShortColdandGrey · 26/11/2022 19:34

Yes do yourself a stocking. Until this year I did a stocking for my mum because my dad was rubbish at them. To me it is the best bit of Christmas. My brother gives my mum money to buy him stocking stuff.

TheGirlWhoLived · 26/11/2022 19:35

I do a stocking for myself! This year I have: some lovely clarins skincare, toofaced makeup, white company candle, hotel chocolat wreath, activity hanjie book and lovely pens, a ring I admired and some hair stuff ☺️

Reebokclassics · 26/11/2022 19:37

Yes, I do my own! Perfume, make up, posh chocs, mini cocktails, etc

Leviosa · 26/11/2022 19:38

OK, you are all amazing, thank you! What great ideas - love the idea of using Boots points @Moonlightsonatas (woohoo, treats from toothpaste) and samples @N0va . Have a terrible memory for things I've wrapped, so some nice surprises for me it is!

I just love small and miniature things!

Thinking:
Nice handcream what actually works for my skin and fits in my handbag - like the small L'Occitane shea butter - or nail polish
Either a tiny (two choc) box of super fancy choc or little Lindt figure in foil
A little box of art pencils that I've been coveting (I'm an artist...)
Packet of flower seeds for spring?
Love the idea of post its and stationery!! @N0va
A tiny package of sewing needles
Soap! Great thought, thank you @Mercedesbenz2022
A tiny photo frame - do these exist? They must!

I bought myself a few bits a couple of years ago and said to my dds they were my Christmas treats that I was going to put away for myself until Christmas. L’Occitane shower oil that I love, box of space masks, bottle of hotel chocolate vodka cream stuff, can’t remember what else, just some nice little treats.
They took them off of me to look after which I thought was a bit OTT but actually quite sensible as they know me well and I would have just started using them before Christmas 😂
On Christmas Day they presented me with a stocking with my original things I had bought in and also some other lovely surprises - dh had got in on the act too and bought some things to put in - it was lovely!
and I had genuinely forgotten what I had bought myself too so it was extra lovely 😂

Leviosa · 26/11/2022 19:43

Ladies, just loving all these ideas - gloves and chocolate covered orange peel, excellent choices and now on my stocking list too!

I do stockings for my 3 adult dc, foster son and one for DH. DH does one for me but he is not really very good at it. DC bring a couple of things for both my and DH stocking. I admit I often get myself a few bits that I really like, wrap it in different Xmas paper than rest of gifts and pop into my own stocking. I assume DH thinks one of children brought them for me and DC think DH got them for me. I just look suitably surprised. I have bought a beautiful Waterman fountain pen, cat and kittens writing paper and envelopes, vanilla coffee beans and a little box of Lindor chocolates. Lucky me.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/11/2022 20:02

I do my own.

This year I have bubble bath, earrings, lipgloss, a fiction book and journal type book, Turkish Delight, fun tights, a lovely wooden Christmas decoration and a tiny bottle of Mermaid gin.

Previous years have included washi tape, small card based games, necklaces, gloves, sweets from other countries.

This year I'm also doing my mum as everyone in our house on Christmas Eve/morning gets one.

She's getting fancy shower gel, washi tape, two types of halva, a notebook, a Christmas coaster designed by ds, nail polish and an orange (because apparently all stockings need oranges).

Leviosa · 26/11/2022 20:03

@caringcarer - the magic of Christmas! 😂 ingenious...

OP posts:
AdaColeman · 26/11/2022 20:05

Oh yes! I've been doing a stocking for myself for some years now, nothing very expensive, more fun things to brighten up Christmas morning, as I will be on my own.
Things I've got this year include...
Tins of M&S ready mixed cocktails
Miniature Baileys with glass
Trial size Cockburns ports
Christmas tree earrings
Chocolate seashells
Pretty notebook
Gingerbread men
Carmex special edition
Fancy hair thing
Oyster knife
Lindt Father Christmas (essential!)

@fruitstick where do you get you chocolate covered orange peel please? I would love that.

So get shopping @Leviosa and ignore your "Bah! Humbug!" husband.

Thelifeofawife · 26/11/2022 20:07

I’ve done my own many times over the years when it was just me and DC, so we could sit on my bed on Christmas morning and open our stockings together. I generally put bits of make up and chocolate in mine, then whatever small
things I had been gifted from family/friends.
Now I come to think of it I’ve realised that I still do my own despite being married now! Will be having a word with DH!

rockingbird · 26/11/2022 20:11

Love this idea! It's my first year as a single mum so I'll treat myself and do a stocking for Christmas Day 🥰

fruitstick · 26/11/2022 20:16

@AdaColeman here you go https://www.carluccios.com/products/lunette-darancia-candied-orange-peel-coated-in-dark-chocolate-150g/

They're not cheap so refuse to share them Grin

AdaColeman · 26/11/2022 20:19

Oh thanks fruitstick, I'm definitely getting those.

Senseofsomething · 26/11/2022 20:22

I like this idea too! Happy Christmas to us.

RitaSueandBobtwo · 26/11/2022 20:23

Haven’t done a stocking as such but when single I used to buy myself two or three nice things.

CD (back in the day)
Ear rings
nice socks
nice new knickers
favourite choccies etc

I might reinvent it this year. If I was doing it this year I would maybe do:

nice socks
nice PJ’s
local handmade chocolates just a small box personally selected by me
A small box of Orogin Christmas cocktail selection (they are absolutely delicious)
some nice perfume
maybe some shower oil
nice handcream
