Does anyone do a stocking for themselves?

Hi there, I love small gifts, and really enjoy doing a stocking each year for DS. We never had stockings growing up (tiny violins) and DH declared a few years back that stockings are, in his opinion, just for kids. But part of me really wants to do just a little stocking for myself, with tiny, lovely things.

Sigh. Just leave it at fantasy?

Does anyone else do their own stocking? Please tell me I'm not alone!

I'm tempted to do this as my partner and I don't do stockings anymore.

If you do yourself one, do you wrap up what you put in it?

Ive never wrapped anything in stockings.

TheChosenTwo · 27/11/2022 18:59

@ErinAndTonic i wrap everything for stockings except the satsuma and the chocolate coins!

Mine were always wrapped as a child so I’ve always done the same for my dc.
i have different boxes for the dcs stocking stuff, pile them into the car and drive them round to a friend who’s child free. Then one evening in December I walk round with a couple of bottles of something and she helps me wrap everything while we get drunk 😂 the presents stay there until Christmas Eve - I have nowhere to hide them!

My friend and I swap stockings when we were single parents. We still do it!

Last year DSis and I decided that since we make stockings up for our children (and sometimes others) but never get one ourselves, then we would do one for each other.

I'm sure I've got more than I can fit in but she's so easy to buy for, unlike DS... It's nice to buy your own presents as you know what you really would like, but having the surprise is great too!

I'm going to wrap the bigger items in tissue paper but leave stuff like chocolate as is. I do love wrapping though Grin

piddocktrumperiness · 27/11/2022 20:17

Do we just fill it ourselves then leave it until Christmas morning, then rummage through them?
I want to do this for myself- does not seem to have the element of surprise though :(

Always4Brenner · 27/11/2022 20:37

Yes I’m doing one on my own not much in it this year but it’s fun non the less.

ThatshallotBaby · 27/11/2022 20:48

Yes @piddocktrumperiness
I wrap mine in tissue paper. You do forget some!

Inasec24 · 28/11/2022 19:45

Yes I do! DH occasionally tries to interfere but I like to do it myself. This year I bought a bath bomb that has a surprise piece of jewellery in it.

Inasec24 · 28/11/2022 19:48

I've also bought for mine - my fave chocs, a can of margarita, lavender oil, bath oil, nail polish, microfiber face cloths.

Yes. Last year I put in

Mini bottle of champagne
Chanel lipstick
Christmas tree bauble from Georg Jensen
Donegal fine wool socks
A lottery ticket
Mini Diptyque candle
Non-fiction paperback
Lancôme mascara
A nice roller ball pen
Very posh chocolates from Iain Burnett
Tweezerman tweezers
Muslin make up remover cloth
Little silver photo frame with a photo of the DCs in it
A cashmere beanie hat
Travel size bottle of my usual perfume (for my wash bag when I go away)
Swiss Army Knife
A jar of Paul Young’s salted caramel
A coffee keep-cup with a tight lid

YorkieTheRabbit · 28/11/2022 22:20

I’ve just ordered a bottle of Dior nail glow and some Neil’s Yard bath foam to add to my stocking.
I’ve definitely got a two cans of ready mixed cocktails, some liquor chocolates and a colouring book and pencils. I tend to buy bits throughout the year, wrap them in tissue and put them away so it’s always a bit of a surprise when it comes to opening my stocking 😂

piddocktrumperiness · 29/11/2022 08:22

I love these ideas but still not sure how this all works.I'd love a stocking for myself as DP believes stockings are just for kids. Do I buy throughout the year , pop them into a stocking and 'forget' about them until Christmas Morning, or do I buy as and when and then officially use the stuff on Christmas Morning?

Always4Brenner · 29/11/2022 09:35

Next year I’ll save for better quality and put away inthe stocking as I go along.

YorkieTheRabbit · 29/11/2022 11:16

@piddocktrumperiness I tend to buy bits throughout the year, it could be something that I don’t need straight away but is on offer, eg Neil’s Yard or L’occitaine bubble bath, a nail varnish, stuff that will be fine stuck in a drawer for a few months 😊I wrap them in tissue and put them away in my stocking, well it’s actually a sack.
More recently I’ve bought cocktails in tins and chocolates, most of the other stuff I’ve forgotten so it will be a surprise when I open it on Christmas morning 😂

pinkksugarmouse · 30/11/2022 18:23

DH & I don’t do stockings and I didn’t with ex DH either. We don’t do them for DD now she’s an adult but I can understand why making up a stocking of things might cheer someone up when they won’t get anything otherwise.
If I knew a single parent well enough I would want to do this for them but then they might feel pressure to reciprocate.

FearofQueefing · 30/11/2022 19:10

My DH and I do them for each other. But I love the idea of doing one for myself 😁

I would choose:
1x Box of Tunnock's Coconut Snowballs
1 x packet of Percy Pigs
1 x mini bottle of Prosecco
1x Burts Bees pomegranate lip balm
1 x glossier lidstar eye shadow
1 x some new make up sponges
1 x Inky and Mole hair clip
1 x sudoku book
1 x tan coloured leather belt
1 x Magnetic needle minder
