Here's mine:

  1. Elf isn't that good. Engaging at the beginning, but once he's in the US it gets pretty boring

  2. Turkey has an awful after taste

Christmas is 25th December -6th January. And not before. Until then it is advent!

Why do people spend hours making a 'cripsy' roast potato to make it soggy and soft with gravy?????

Absolutely! This applies to roast dinners too. Crispy chicken skin, crackling. Any type of sauce should always be to the side of the food not poured over the top of it!

LindaEllen · 19/11/2022 12:26

The bit between Christmas and New Year is the best bit.

(For me, because we meet with family on Christmas Day, sometimes go somewhere for a buffet on Boxing Day, but after that we just chill for a few days, watch films, eat chocs, wear new PJs, drink wine, have nice baths with posh bubbles.. it's brilliant!)

Are you Green and do you live in Whoville by any chance?

I have no idea what you mean.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 19/11/2022 12:40

Hate Elf and Will Ferrell.

StopsWalkingToSneeze · 19/11/2022 13:00

I don’t mind going into work between Christmas and New Years and as a parent I don’t think we should get priority over those with grown or no children for the time off.

Sprouts have been made to taste sweeter thats why they are nicer now than when we were kids!

And your taste buds change over time. I'm going to try sprouts again in about 10 years time. Maybe then I'll be able to tolerate bitter food.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 19/11/2022 13:03

For the sprouts - do you cross the bottom and soak in salted water? My mum swears that draws the bitterness out and her sprouts have always tasted lovely.

The annual debate over whether Die Hard is a christmas film or not is so painfully tedious. It really doesn't matter, just watch it if you want to and leave the rest of us alone.

Ok. Time to start the debate of whether Lethal Weapon is a Christmas film Xmas Wink

wewishyouamerrychristmas · 19/11/2022 13:13

Christmas is 1 - 26 December. Decorations and tree down no later than 30th December.

mince pies are rank. As is Christmas pudding.

die hard is a Christmas movie.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/11/2022 13:22

@wewishyouamerrychristmas it really isn't. The twelve days of Christmas start on 24th December and end on 6th January - twelfth night.

Our tree goes up the weekend before Christmas and comes down on 5th/6th.

Parents that need all the credit for presents are needy and sad.

Advent calendars for adults are stupid and wasteful.

I bet you're fun at parties.

I am sure she is perfect at parties. Pointing out something that is factually correct doesn’t make you a party pooper.

Xtraincome · 19/11/2022 14:21
  • watching people unwrap loads of presents is boring
  • Roast dinners, even on Xmas, are dull
  • the boomers made Christmas a consumerist nightmare that is continues to be
  • Xmas is for everyone
  • santa fills stockings and gives one gift
Wankytramphands · 19/11/2022 14:23

Christmas ends 5/6 January whenever 12th night is as per Google. If you take your tree down before this date you are a bah humbug party pooper (a day or so before is acceptable if you work or some extreme reason)

Ylvamoon · 19/11/2022 14:57

Christmas is 24th December: Tree up to 6th January: Tree down!
6th December St Nicholas day...
It's always been like that and it will be like that in the future!
😁 in my house anyway just don't disagree with me!

... and turkey is disgusting.

frozengoose · 19/11/2022 14:57

I think parents of young dc should be given priority for annual leave at Christmas.

TimBoothseyes · 19/11/2022 15:03

I think people who don't see their adult DC very often (due to distance/ work schedules not LC/NC), should get priority for annual leave at Christmas.

frozengoose · 19/11/2022 15:09

As a parent on teens I'm happy not be given priority 🤣
They won't be waking up at 5am full of excitement and wonder.
I think as many parents as possible should be able to experience that.
It just isn't the same for anyone out of primary school, it is a few short years.

StopsWalkingToSneeze · 19/11/2022 15:19

If you want the time off, regardless of family circumstances, all names in the hat, draw them out. Fairest way. From someone who doesn’t want to go in the hat, happy to work it.

I think everyone should be given fair dibs.

frozendaisy · 19/11/2022 15:31

Everyone wants time at Christmas off some years it's 3 days leave for 10 days off (assuming regular working hours).

Just because you have kids doesn't mean you should have more right over others, speaking as a parent.

Claudia84 · 19/11/2022 15:37

I like it when it's just me and OH and the dog on Christmas Day.

Advent calendars are fine. "12 days of Christmas calendars" on the other hand just shows how cheap some companies really are.
Looking at you Charlotte Tilbury.

Ah you sound like an old manager of mine who tried that. Soon changed his mind when I said I would be reporting him to HR
