Controversial Christmas Opinions

Here's mine:

  1. Elf isn't that good. Engaging at the beginning, but once he's in the US it gets pretty boring

  2. Turkey has an awful after taste

I hate the trend for one colour only themed trees, lights and decorations.

Christmas should be a riot of colours!

And tinsel. Lots of tinsel.

#Babochan88 you need a few history lessons!

Correct it was the Roman festival first later the church took it over.

I love tinsel! Its look, its feel and its smell. It’s the best!

Absolutely.

Brings me back to Christmas as a toddler in the 80's.

I never liked my sister in law after she snootily announced that "tinsel was tacky". Felt like a personal attack on our childhood Christmases. (Mind you didn't like her much before either...) 😅

I have plenty of tinsel and plenty of multicoloured lights.

FindingMeno But you can! Winter Solstice is far more important to me than Christmas, which we largely ignore. I have decorations for the solstice which are nothing to do with Christmas, and we have a celebratory meal. I once worked for a brilliant boss who respected my beliefs and let me take the day off as a sort of personal bank holiday.

Christmas should be invisible until well into December.

If Christmas was celebrated at the proper time it would be late September. As pinkksugarmouse said upthread much of it was nicked from pagans and other pre-Christian people. I've never met a Christian who can tell me where in the bible it says to put a tree in your house.

Sprouts are delicious.

Killing millions of turkeys and chickens to celebrate the supposed birth of a special baby is weird.

Adults don't need presents.

Nobody needs presents.....but they do bring joy, which is a big part of Christmas. For adults as well as children.

That actually sounds nice in a traditional kind of way.

I'm thinking more of all White trees with White lights or anything uber modern and people trying too hard to be what they consider to be classy.

I just find it a tad pretentious.

StopsWalkingToSneeze · 19/11/2022 10:16

You should have one Christmas dinner on Christmas Day. That is all.

Gifts should have a tag with the name of who gifted it. Santa doesn’t deserve the credit.

Brightstarowl · 19/11/2022 10:16

Whynobreadpudding · 19/11/2022 00:45

Adults giving each other presents seems very childish.

Bah humbug.

I’m going all Tudor themed Tudor music as well. Tree up 24th December down 12th day but having soft whit fairy light by the tv not for Christmas but to get me through till March.

tiger2691 · 19/11/2022 10:23

Nothing wrong with a Christmas day stroll, via Wetherspoons, 2 or 3 pints then back home to my wife who is merrily watching crap on tv.

Brightstarowl · 19/11/2022 10:24

georgarina · 19/11/2022 05:04

The worst part of Christmas is people complaining about not liking Christmas! Not liking the music, not liking the lights. Doesn't make you special or different, just annoying

So blooming true.

I find it depressing.

My partner is like this...anything christmassy apparently makes him "cringe".

He once fell asleep at 7pm on new years eve and ruined it.

I wanted to strangle him with tinsel.

Wheelz46 · 19/11/2022 10:29

frozendaisy · 19/11/2022 09:04

What about Batman Returns?

Not seen it 😬

Although it doesn't sound very Christmasssy! 😆

pinkksugarmouse · 19/11/2022 10:32

Babochan88 · 19/11/2022 09:34

No they nicked it from Christians. Jesus is the reason for the season

Errm you do realise that Pagans have been around a lot longer than Christians? 😳 I assume this is a joke reply. 🤣

Brightstarowl · 19/11/2022 10:34

LadyKenya · 19/11/2022 09:14

Too many people get into a tizzy over what to get adults, and in some cases children presents that they do not need, or want. It is wasteful and is helping to contribute to the state that the planet is in. The commercialisation of Christmas is nauseating.

Are you Green and do you live in Whoville by any chance?

Always4Brenner · 19/11/2022 10:43

Hate NYE don’t celebrate it most Christmas nye tv is crap. Only five programmes watched if lucky they’re on.

BlackberriesArePurple · 19/11/2022 10:51

Ramble0n · 18/11/2022 23:24

Aunt Bessies roast potatoes are better than home made.

You are doing the homemade ones wrong if you believe this! 🤣

WineAndDontDine · 19/11/2022 10:55

I love getting bath stuff for Christmas.... it makes a change from the lowest shelf shit I normally "treat" myself to

Tulipvase · 19/11/2022 10:58

Krampus is the best Christmas film, Christmas Eve is the best day, hate flashing lights of any colour and fake trees have no place any where. I also don’t let my children help decorate the tree. It’s my tree.

Fabulous!

We're doing Victorian themed this year (minus the candles on the tree for safety reasons!).

TreacsPotNoodle · 19/11/2022 11:02

Christmas Eve boxed and elf on the shelf is tacky.

Boxing Day leftover food is 100x better than Christmas dinner

WimbyAce · 19/11/2022 11:04

MrsAvocet · 18/11/2022 22:56

Secret Santas should be banned.

Agreed

AndNeverEverEatPears · 19/11/2022 11:07

Dragonskin · 18/11/2022 22:50

Agree, but Boxing Day with cold turkey and salad.....

Ooh how very dare you... now I'm hungry for cold turkey, mash, and all the bits that go with it! 😁

I actually agreed about elf on the shelf until I had kids. But my daughter is so excited about it, it is great fun. Plus I have allocated this job to my other half so I just sit back and watch the fun unfold each day.

Christmas Eve boxes is a no. Too much.

kingtamponthefurred · 19/11/2022 11:24

Bread sauce is marginally less appealing than three day old dog puke.

BeverleyMacca1 · 19/11/2022 11:45

ImNotEntirelySureAboutThat · 19/11/2022 09:14

Have you ever actually made bread sauce?

You don't make a white sauce with the milk.

Bonkers.

You do make the sauce with the milk
