I have decorations for the solstice which are nothing to do with Christmas, and we have a celebratory meal. I once worked for a brilliant boss who respected my beliefs and let me take the day off as a sort of personal bank holiday.

If Christmas was celebrated at the proper time it would be late September. As pinkksugarmouse said upthread much of it was nicked from pagans and other pre-Christian people. I've never met a Christian who can tell me where in the bible it says to put a tree in your house.
