@Howmanysleepsnow your dh is right. We bought a brand new £600 laptop and it still wasn't good enough for gaming (we bought the best in our price range for gaming in the hopes it might work but it ended up just being used for homework) My dc is wanting a gaming PC set up... I've told him he can buy one of those himself lf when he moves out 😅 get the rats!! Apparently they're incredibly smart and easy to train!

Chocolateteabag · 18/11/2022 10:41

Hot Diamonds

If you haven't received a birthday code - have you clicked on the email link after you registered? As i think that might be why you haven't had one sent through? Thats to everyone who has a new birthday this week who hasn't had their code (@ColeXander @Lochjeda @Ehunt1 )

I've managed to get a locket and charm for £16.50 delivered using the stacking codes and £15 off

Still looking for any Fatface codes - nothing at all at the moment - which is weird when everyone else is sending out codes right and left? (Cos obviously that is where I need to buy DS's stuff from)

@Howmanysleepsnow unfortunately I think you're DH is right.
My DH recently looked at getting a laptop as we both play PC games but don't have space for another desktop. The cheapest he found that he thought could be acceptable was just under a thousand and he still thought we'd be disappointed. Needless to say, we're not getting one...
I don't know much about the hardware side, as it's DHs "thing" but I can't imagine any laptop at the £200 mark is actually capable of playing any games.

I started a separate thread for help, but then realised as I’m after a bargain maybe I’m better asking here! Hope no one minds.

DS10 has put a “gaming laptop bundle” on his Santa letter (he’s on the edge of still believing, probably his last year). I have no idea what games he’d want to play, currently he plays Minecraft/ roblox/ Fortnite on his switch. I’ve seen some laptops marketed as gaming laptops around £230, or refurbished around £180 which I could probably stretch to. DH says these aren’t good enough for gaming and would be a disappointment, and that anything useable would be around £700: no way I could even nearly afford that! Is DH right? Do I get him a cheaper laptop anyway? He’d probably also use it for coding, assuming that it could do that…. Can anyone let me know if what he wants is possible within budget, or better still share some links?
Hes also asked for a fire stick, but doesn’t have a TV! Would that work in a laptop?
If not I’m back to the drawing board as his only other request is pet rats 😂

gaming set ups are really expensive something at the £200-mark wouldn't be worth it, it would be laggy very quickly! we have pet rats they are lovely; the setup is expensive as they need lots of enrichment and fall breakers, but they are amazing kind and gentle pets or children! (in case you change your mind girls are better than boys less smelly)

My DD is the same age and had the same request. She also plays the same games as your DS. We looked at the gaming bundles and they were ridiculous.

After having a chat with an expert and doing some YouTube research, we got the Acer Aspire 5 Gold Laptop. It's a really good spec and perfect for gaming. It was reduced to £400 in currys a few weeks ago. It's now back up to £600 so I reckon it's due to 'drop' for Black Friday. I went halves with my Mum as I couldn't really afford the expense. For the rest of the 'bundle' I got a great rainbow light up keyboard and mouse - cheap and cheerful brand from Currys. The only thing I've gone full on gaming brand for is her Razer Kraken kitty headset. Thankfully they just dropped from £150 to £89 this morning so I've pounced on them.

Is anyone able to get a student beans code for me for a company called 'lounge' at all please? DD wants some new underwear but the shipping price stings a bit. Honestly, having teenagers/young adults is so expensive compared to when they were small - make the most of if if yours are still young!

I can get you 15% off full price with a BLC code?

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 18/11/2022 10:54

Thank you for the code @MulticolourTriangles - took the postage off at least!

I'd rather remortgage and buy him the gaming set than have rays in my house!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 18/11/2022 10:56

@1stTimeMama thanks for the offer, I got a code just before. It wasn't a full price item anyway.
Is it me, or do others get so overwhelmed with Black Friday that they can't buy anything?

1stTimeMama · 18/11/2022 10:56

My phone apparently won't even let me type the word, such is my fear level of the creatures!

No problem 🙂

I'm feeling similar in general this year. I'm usually so close to being done, which is a challenge as I have 5 children, but this year I have a couple of books and that's it. I have 60 tabs open on my phone of things I'd like to get, and can't make myself buy any of it! I think I'm hanging on for the next deal, but it means I'm missing out. I wanted the Minecraft Llama Lego set, £80 on Very and Amazon, its been sitting in my basket for weeks and today its back up to £115!

user143677433 · 18/11/2022 11:00

@Howmanysleepsnow a gaming desktop would be more achievable for the budget. Check out these guys for quality refurbished. They have Black Friday deals on now and extra 10% off if you sign up for emails.

Monitor, keyboard etc you could likely get for free if very cheap off Facebook or freecycle as people upgrade regularly.

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/11/2022 11:01

Keep missing the chocolate but will persevere.

Does anyone know a Garmin discount code? Or know where I can find it any cheaper? The Forerunner 245 with £60 off is £149.99 but just checking it’s not anywhere cheaper (was hoping Amazon Black Friday would have it discounted but it’s not)

I think he’d struggle with that as WiFi in his bedroom isn’t brilliant and I just don’t have space to keep it downstairs full time. We’ve got WiFi extenders but it’s still really patchy.
Would be a great idea otherwise!

Then I recommend trying the laptop finder on the same site. It lets you prioritise eg price over weight. Although the one it suggests for your criteria is £360 as a refurb.

(I am in no way affiliated with them)

Had anyone seen oculus quest VR at a palatable price?!

FreakyFrie · 18/11/2022 11:17

Are Amazon literally putting one Cadbury bar up at a time for £2.87?! I tried to up it to 2 and it said the seller only had 1!

it’s Amazon! Jokes.

Shutitwierdo · 18/11/2022 11:18

Finally got a chocolate bar for £2.87. Been trying for days

dizzygirl1 · 18/11/2022 11:20

Failed to add to basket constantly for the chocolate 🙈

Shutitwierdo · 18/11/2022 11:21

@FreakyFrie had to do it on the laptop as it didn't work on the phone. They come up at random times as well.

If seen it drop in price all morning but every other time it says Failed to add to basket. This was the first time it added it and when I tried to change it to 2 it said the seller only had one.

I think someone’s having fun in Amazon headquarters😂 dropping the price with only a couple and then back up and repeat 😂

Last year I bought a beautiful wreath from
www.dibor.co.uk/sale.html
Today I got 2 garlands half price.
Worth a look as I thought really nice quality.

What a gorgeous website.
