Spanielsarepainless · 07/11/2022 16:45

Normally as close to 1st Dec as possible as I absolutely love this house when it is decorated for Christmas, it just looks amazing inside!
However this year due to circumstances we can't do it on the weekend of 3rd as DS is away at Cubs camp, and DP refuses to allow me to put them up on a weekend SD isn't here. So in order that my children don't miss out I'm having to put them up 19th Nov which I'm not happy about. My DS's birthday is 23rd so I'd never want them up before then as we usually do the living room up with decorations for each child's birthday. But it is that or 17th December which is obviously far too late. SD will be putting them up at her mothers so isn't missing out. Maybe I'm being unfair, he isn't normally a Disney dad or anything, but he is adamant she has to be here.

Tell him to Naff Off. SD is putting them
up with her Mum, you don't want them up very early or very late.

can she not come over for a day/evening 'off schedule'. OR save the top decoration for her to put on when she comes & have a 'formal lights on' with hot chocolate or something

It's not fair on DS not to have Birthday decorations because DH is being a twat!

InsanityOf2020 · 07/11/2022 16:52

20th december 2020, put away 2days later if i remember rightly. Havent been up since, no plans for this year yet

Strokethefurrywall · 07/11/2022 17:00

1 December or the closest weekend to it. We don't celebrate just "Christmas" as we also have US Thanksgiving celebrated here (Cayman) so the "festive season" pretty much kicks off from mid-November.

Most shopping precincts have already got decorations up and the town Centre will turn on the big tree lights 19 November straight after pirates week.
By the time we get to 1 December I feel like I'm already falling behind!

CafeCremeMerci · 07/11/2022 17:13

It varies. I live alone, so it depends on when I can face getting it all out of the loft & arsing about with the lights etc. I'm aiming for the last weekend in Nov this year I have a 3 day weekend.

my only date thing is definitely 'not before Halloween' as I like autumn/Halloween stuff until 2 Nov. & even though the house isn't decorated, I prefer to wait until after Bonfire Night.

Fabuleuse · 07/11/2022 17:27

Weekend before Christmas. Then it says up until as close to 6th Jan as practical.

Crumpleton · 07/11/2022 17:33

Put up 12 days before Christmas day.
Take down 12 days after.

Partypoooooper · 07/11/2022 17:36

18th December.

IhearyouClemFandango · 07/11/2022 17:36

We start getting little bits out around the first week of December, bunting, a few small lights etc. Tree and the rest not until the second weekend of Dec. So this year will be the 10/11th.

ivfbabymomma1 · 07/11/2022 17:45

The last weekend in Nov ☺️

quickbathroombreak · 07/11/2022 18:02

Will make a start on room decs this weekend (I decorate virtually every room in the house) and put up the two big trees the following weekend. Take it all down before school starts back. I love Christmas decorations, never get bored of looking at them, and add to the collection every year! My DD luckily seems to be taking after me, my DH just puts up with it providing he doesn't have to help too much!

glasshole · 07/11/2022 18:16

I tend to start sorting out my living room and clearing shelving space, deep cleaning etc around the 15th November. Then over 7-10 days I bring out my snow globe collection, my big nativity, garlands etc. I love love love my Christmas tree and always try to have it up by the 25th November as it just gives me so much pleasure. Its a carousel tree and slowly rotates to display all of my collectible kitschy and vintage baubles. I've attached a picture of it with just half the baubles. I've got remote control floating candles that hang around it too. The twinkle lights, the flickering of candles in lanterns and thick fluffy blankets and cheesy Christmas movies just really really works wonders with my seasonal affective disorder. I take it down on the 27/28th December

Person on my road has theirs up already! Outside lights and everything! We normally have ours up early December and take them down on boxing day. This year we’re going to Thailand for a month on the 14th so won’t be having one… I feel a bit sad tbh!

Keeperinthecloset · 08/11/2022 13:02

I’ve done the fireplace resisting the urge to put up anything else.

Suedave · 08/11/2022 18:32

Wow...how lovely!!
Have packed away everyday ornaments etc ...now ...how long can I resist starting on the Xmas Dec's????😬😬😬

Roxmum14 · 09/11/2022 12:18

The weekend before the 1st December so this year would be 26 or 27 November.

iabvvu · 09/11/2022 14:58

Last weekend of November since I moved out of my parents' 3 years ago. Lots of people will say that pre-December is unacceptable but I love it so much I like to extend the joy for as long as possible - we get a real tree from a Christmas tree farm (magical, would highly recommend) and this is when it opens otherwise I'd probably go even earlier!

BellaAmorosa · 09/11/2022 15:13

I put mine up on Christmas Eve these days. It's a tradition now and I love it. They get taken down first week of January, but no later than the 5th or 6th (I can never remember which of them is Twelfth Night).
