They go up on 8/9/10 December, down around 3rd of January.

I used to hold out until epiphany, but as much as I love the tree and decorations, I've had enough by around the 3rd.

Never in November, thats just nuts.

masterofdoomv1 · 05/11/2022 22:48

whats epiphany

Numbersarefun · 05/11/2022 22:52

Epiphany is 6th January - it’s when the Christian church remember the wise men visiting Jesus.

HippeePrincess · 05/11/2022 22:57

As late as possible/if at all, I find it such a chore and then you have to take them down again, double chore.

CharlotteStreet · 05/11/2022 23:02

Always used to be while watching Sports Personality of the Year so second or third weekend in December but in 2020 when we were under Covid restrictions someone on our street suggested a mass switch-on on the first Sunday of December and it was actually lovely as we all gathered outside and chatted from afar. We did it again last year and it's now an annual fixture.

PinkHeadphones · 05/11/2022 23:09

Up 16/17/18 Dec
Down on epiphany

Lapland123 · 05/11/2022 23:14

Weekend after thanksgiving….earlier if I can get agreement from the rest of family. I’d have them
up now if I could!

mondaytosunday · 05/11/2022 23:21

First weekend in December for us. Tree up etc.

Thecomfortador · 05/11/2022 23:22

It'll probably be first weekend of December here - I always have an internal battle as in my head it should be at least mid December or when schools have broken up, as my parents always did. But my heart (and DP) think why shouldn't they go up earlier? I worry that they would lose their impact - the tree lights in particular and the anticipation of waiting until school has finished, contribute to the excitement and Christmassy feeling.

But anyway, I lose the battle every year and they'll be up on the 3rd probably. And probably be all wonky by Christmas as my kids can't leave anything alone.

Nectarpeach · 06/11/2022 10:32

15th November here, I love Christmas and want to enjoy the decorations and festiveness as long as possible, we also have 5 trees to put up so it takes a while.

upfucked · 06/11/2022 10:36

First weekend in December.

My children are at school on the 23rd this year!

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/11/2022 10:39

10/11 December

AllThatAndMore · 06/11/2022 10:46

Usually around Dec 1st ! This year I think I’m going to wait a week into the month before getting the Christmas tree as it wasn’t looking so fresh by Christmas 😆

Inasec24 · 06/11/2022 10:50

Normally 1st December but this year I think it might be last weekend in November or 30th November at the latest

Topbird29 · 06/11/2022 11:01

Usually 1st weekend in Dec- get tree from local scouts that weekend. Advent calendar out (little houses we fill ourselves), and xmas/winter bedding on for 1st Dec. Never decorate properly before Dec. And try to avoid mince pies until then too!

Have strung some battery powered fairy lights outside as used for Halloween, and might turn them on for school nights /Cubs nights in Nov if dark before we get home though.

LadyHermione · 06/11/2022 11:19

Advent wreath on first Sunday of Advent.
Room decorations up after term ends. Gradually add things as I scrump holly, ivy, pine branches etc. Grin
Tree up on Christmas Eve.
All down on Epiphany.

ilovemaxibons · 06/11/2022 11:21

My son's birthday is the 20th December so we do a (late night!) switch around to Christmas stuff on the 20th night after he's gone to bed! Xx

Quizzed · 06/11/2022 11:24

I normally put mine up the first weekend in December but I shall be working that weekend so I will be putting them up on the last Sunday of November.

Ihavedogs · 06/11/2022 12:26

The door wreath will normally go up around 1 December, but nothing else until mid December.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2022 12:28

Usually two or three days before Christmas. Other family members, as soon as Halloween is out of the way. They have young children who love it all though so why not? Do what suits you.

midgetastic · 06/11/2022 12:34

Later rather than earlier

Come boxing day there will be threads of people fed up with the decorations and taking them down

Which always seems a shame as most people have holidays between Christmas and new year not before hand

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 06/11/2022 12:47

Usually the first weekend in December. But we have various plans or work pretty much every weekend until christmas eve so we'll have to squeeze it in over a few evenings. So probably 6th dec.
