First weekend in December. My neighbours put theirs up yesterday....

Mytinyman · 06/11/2022 13:39

We put ours up yesterday. I love the twinkling lights and it just makes everything seem cosy. Christmas is my favourite Time and I want to enjoy the decorations as long as possible! Doesn't hurt anyone and makes us happy so why not? 🎅

We wait until December, normally the first weekend in December but we have a family wedding that weekend so will have to be an evening of the next week.

we have seen a few families with the house fully decorated already. It’s madness.

masterofdoomv1 · 06/11/2022 14:20

The presepe (Napolitan christmas nativity) goes up on 8 December.

Nothing else till after after the last of the birthdays on 13th.

That way we don't get bored and it's not up for months.

HideTheCroissants · 06/11/2022 14:27

First weekend of advent. This year that is actually the last weekend in November. We have a LOT of decorations, indoor and outdoor so it takes at least two weekends to get them all up….

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/11/2022 14:32

Advent is a penitential season, like Lent. It is the time when we prepare for the birth of Christ , by reflection and penitence.
The Christmas decorations go up on Christmas Eve, and come down on the morning of 7th January, after Epiphany.

of course, this only applies to those for whom Christmas is a religious festival.

NukaColaQuantum · 06/11/2022 14:35

The weekend of or before the 1st Dec. My work starts getting insane in Nov, I have qualification stuff due in Jan, so I do it then.

Considering doing it a tad earlier this time, because we’ve had a traumatic year, have finally settled into our new home (relocated), my Grandmother gave me half of her decorations (and half of those belonged to her mother) and frankly I’m itching to get them out and up/displayed because they remind me of my childhood.

We put the decorations up in church (Roman Catholic) for the first Sunday of advent too. Our church is very much “celebrate the season of advent” although we do, of course have penitential services too. We are joyfully anticipating the coming of our Lord.

Mid to late November, everything is up by December. I go big on decorating though...

containsnuts · 06/11/2022 15:56

Ideally for me it would be 12 days before, but DCs have xmas fairs, crafts and activities starting mid november so it's a gradual process from about now!

Hear! Hear!
I've had mine up from the 1st November. Even have the gifts wrapped under the tree! Xmas Grin

hiredandsqueak · 06/11/2022 21:09

Middle of December and down for New Year. I've seen my first house all trimmed up this morning whilst walking the dog though.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 06/11/2022 21:30

20/21st December up - down 2nd Jan.

Whendovescry03 · 06/11/2022 22:07

Mid-Dec. Looks like we'll go for it on 17th Dec this year. We went earlier last year but I was sick of the tree by Christmas day!

Spicypies · 07/11/2022 11:53

First Saturday of December here, which is always the day we go to cut our Christmas tree. We put up all the decorations that same day, in time for St Nicholas Day.

pinkksugarmouse · 07/11/2022 15:43

Traditionally on or just before the 29th of November. DD (soon to be 20) loved it to go up as part of her birthday celebration. I don’t know if she will still be that fussed this year but we shall see.

This surely only applies to evangelical Christians not the majority? All the Christians I have met put their tree up before Christmas Eve. Even many Catholics who restrict enjoyment most of the time (I can say this with experience).

First weekend in December

Spicypies · 07/11/2022 16:33

We observe the religious aspect of advent, and I don’t know anyone who waits until the 24th! The main focus of advent is on expectation and hope, so it’s not like Lent where people are focusing on repentance. A lot of churches have trees up starting at the beginning of December as part of celebrating the season of hope and expectation.

BeautifulWar · 07/11/2022 16:35

First weekend of December, usually.

Sux2buthen · 07/11/2022 16:37

20 minutes before Christmas dinner and then down during dessert.
Anything else is too much

Sux2buthen · 07/11/2022 16:39

In reality I expect it will be this weekend. And then down New Year's Day

ChakaKhanfan · 07/11/2022 16:42

Second or third weekend of December and then down on New Year’s Day
