BeastOfBODMAS · 07/10/2022 10:13

I planned to just do chocolate advent calendars this year rather than Lego/Playmobil etc to save money. But I impulsively ordered the £10 Tom Gates one when I saw it mentioned on this thread (eBay is cheapest I could see) as my 8 year old loves Tom Gates and I thought that was a good compromise. But now I need to find something similar for my 5, nearly 6 year old son. I can't really get him a toy one now, and not sure he will be excited by the Disney/Peppa/Marvel/Gruffalo mini book ones I've seen. If anyone knows of any other book ones please let me know, or any other ideas for something in-between chocolate and toy!

Could you make one yourself? Maybe get the 10 for £10 books from the works and wrap them up and do a bit of a treasure hunt each day with a clue on where it's hidden? Could mix it up with books/ little packs of sweets/ mini cars etc

Flubadubba · 07/10/2022 11:41

The works had tons of the book advent calendars for £10 the other day. Can't remember which ones they were, though. I was trying not to look as I managed to get my 3 year old a Baby Anabell one from laat year for £13 from Amazon in the height of summer!

I've seen Mr Men, Marvel and cocomelon book calendars if any of those work?

If you have any Facebook free sites in your area or good charity shops then you might be able to get some very cheap/free books that he'd really like.

Smyths has 3 for 2 on the smaller 18cm squishmallows online at the moment, I know a few people are looking out for them

Costco online have the 8 pack of squishmallows for 28.99 including delivery. These are 5in ones currently selling for 8 or 10 pound each in Claire's etc. They have the sea creatures pack and the food squad in stock at the moment. They come in a nice display box but easily be split if you wanted to

Will have a look in The Works, thanks. Don't think he will be bothered about most books tbh, unless I find a favourite character, as we have an extensive collection, I buy them often and we go to the library very regularly and he just doesn't see them as a treat as much as his sister does, maybe because he can't read independently yet. He is much more motivated by chocolate than she is though, so maybe I should just get him two cheap chocolate advent calendars and her one to go with her book one 😂.

@Flubadubba my daughter had a Baby Born advent calendar a few years ago, it was really expensive but worth it for it not to be disposable tat, she still plays with it all now, she had all her dolls dressed up in the Christmas outfits just last weekend in fact!

OutofControl3 · 08/10/2022 07:50

Headbandz Game £7.99 reduced from amazon. Fun little game for kiddies guess what picture is on the head! * *

LaTangerina · 08/10/2022 15:16

Very has a good discount on lego & other kids toys today. 24-30 %

Upsadiddles · 08/10/2022 15:48

The Entertainer has 20% off sky dancers today if anyone has them on a list, although it says low stock. I’ve been keeping an eye on prices and it’s the cheapest I’ve seen (plus an additional 10% off if you have a blue light card). There’s also 20% polly pocket.

Devo1818 · 08/10/2022 15:50

The Entertainer - panda toy that gives birth (kids are very strange aren't they) RRP £49.99 down to £19.99

Devo1818 · 08/10/2022 15:51

I've found the Optimus Prime Lego for £112.50 - cheapest I've seen it. Do I bite or wait for Black Friday??

SpecialK24 · 08/10/2022 20:55

Has anyone seen the barbie day to night dream house cheaper than £199.00 anywhere?

I figured that it was worth the gamble for £13. She loves her dolls, so it's not really a risky gamble, anyway!

@Devo1818 I think I’d buy it at that price. I bought it for £150 when it first came out as it was tipped to be popular.

If anyone didn’t get the Entertainer birthday code, try emailing them - they send it me straight away.

I eventually decided to get the Play Doh ice cream truck for dd. Tbh I can’t stand play doh. But I talked to myself and said it should be something for her and not for me!
