I’ve par-boiled the potatoes and cooled them off, chopper the carrots and parsnips and have the parsnips in water.

What else can I prep today?

OP posts:
APurpleSquirrel · 24/12/2021 11:39

I'm not cooking Christmas Dinner (MIL is), but I'll be making:
Mince pies
GF Mint Areo Rocky Road
GF Key Lime Pie
Possibly GF triple chocolate brownies

feemcgee · 24/12/2021 11:42

I'll make the sticky toffee pudding today and the stuffing.

unexpectedthird · 24/12/2021 11:54

Already done:

Pork, pistachio & apricot terrine
Base and mousse of the chocolate mousse cake
Soup for boxing day lunch
Chicken for boxing day tea of chicken curry is marinating in the fridge

To do:

Dauphinoise
Dhal
Finish curry
Choc truffles for Santa (though this is the teenager's idea and he's in charge of making them)

We're having steak for Christmas Dinner so no need to prep a turkey and we're not having roast potatoes so the veg won't take long tomorrow.🙂

thamesriviera · 24/12/2021 12:26

I'm putting the sprouts on :-)

Helpstopthepain · 24/12/2021 12:36

Absolutely nothing! Dh is doing a gammon (although I do get to switch it on Wink) and prepping the turkey.
I’m painting Grin

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/12/2021 12:38

Turkey cooked
Potatoes par boiled
Sprouts peeled
Sausage, sage & onion stuffing cooked

My mum is making the starters
My sister is doing the pudding

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/12/2021 12:39

@Pleasenomoreglitter

How do you store the potatoes once parboiled? I've not tried doing them ahead before.
I leave covered in water and put a lid on it.
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/12/2021 12:43

Parboil potatoes, prep the parsnips, part cook the sprouts, red cabbage, cranberry sauce and gravy made a few weeks ago and now defrosting.

bilbodog · 24/12/2021 12:44

@Pleasenomoreglitter:

Ive researched and they should be OK if covered and kept cool overnight

Shmithecat2 · 24/12/2021 12:46

@CornishGem1975

Where do people keep their par-boiled or pre-roasted potatoes? Can I just stick them in the garage?
That's where I'm keeping all my prepped veg, it's cold enough!
Mumski45 · 24/12/2021 12:47

Cranberry sauce is done.
DS2 will make Christmas crumble today to go in oven tomorrow
DS1 and I will prep veg including parboiling.
Meat is already marinated.
That's about it.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/12/2021 12:47

I’ve just taken my Turkey crown out of the oven. My gammon is simmering in the slow cooker.
I’ve made two batches of sausage rolls and a gingerbread cake.
That’s me done.

Stellaris22 · 24/12/2021 12:49

Stuffing. Gravy. Pigs in Blankets. Red cabbage. Cooked the liver of the goose for the dog to have in very small portions.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/12/2021 12:52

For those pre cooking their meats today, how do you reheat? I'd slice and heat in gravy but one of my guests hates gravy.

ThePlumVan · 24/12/2021 12:58

I have chilled the wine and frozen the gin ice.

Tired now.

Ohdofuckoffcovid · 24/12/2021 13:29

Just made a xmas cake and nutella tree

I put it in the slow cooker with gravy to warm through.
WhoUsedMyName · 24/12/2021 13:38

When you par boil pots what do you do with them over night?

WhoUsedMyName · 24/12/2021 13:39

Sorry I mean do you drain them and fridge them etc?

Emmelina · 24/12/2021 13:42

I’m prepping the veg and potatoes, I may parboil the potatoes too. Also going to put together a baileys cheesecake for Boxing Day to visit family with - it’ll keep fine in the fridge a couple of days! :)

IggyAce · 24/12/2021 13:44

I’ve made a batch of mince pies, jam tarts, cookies and in the process of making cinnamon buns. I’ll probably peel the potatoes and chop the carrots later.

goldshade · 24/12/2021 13:57

Made bread sauce and vegan gravy, prepped stuffings and all vegetables.
Red cabbage, mince pies and other puddings made earlier this month in the freeze.
Made vegan Wellington and turkey is ready to go into the oven tomorrow.
Cheese board to prep.
What have I forgotten?

elegy · 24/12/2021 14:08

I'm cooking the ham to have cold tomorrow, but fear I may have royally fucked it up again this year. Bought it a few weeks ago and put in the freezer, got it out yesterday and left it on the side to defrost. Just went to put it on to boil now and have noticed it said to defrost in the fridge and NOT at room temperature. So I'm now wondering if I need to ditch a lovely big smoked ham because it's actually a botulism bomb waiting to go off.

(I have form for this. Last year I started a thread asking if I would poison everyone because I'd left the ham soaking for 24 hours in the kitchen. I am such a domestic failure. Next year I will be killing the fatted tomato to feed my loved ones.)

I’ve just put a bit of olive oil on mine and put them in a plastic bag with the are sucked out in the fridge. Apparently this makes them super crispy, but I’ve not done it before.

I just made my baileys cheesecake for Boxing Day! Like you said it’ll be fine for a few days.

My prep is all done. I need a drink now!
