I’ve par-boiled the potatoes and cooled them off, chopper the carrots and parsnips and have the parsnips in water.

What else can I prep today?

@CornishGem1975

Where do people keep their par-boiled or pre-roasted potatoes? Can I just stick them in the garage?
mine are going in the fridge. If I had a garage they'd be in there!
BiddyPop · 24/12/2021 10:14

I've taken sausage meat out of the freezer to defrost for making stuffing, and sausage rolls (will involve grated apple and herbs, but pre-rolled puff pastry).

Plan on peeling potatoes, carrots, parsnips, sprouts.

I need to get butter out of the fridge to soften, so that I can add all the herbs and garlic later today, for stuffing under turkey skin in the morning

And I'd also like to make some mince pies (which involves making pastry).

I think that's it foodwise - DH won't let me brine the turkey (and I'd fear DPup would find and devour it anyway). We don't really need much else.

FingersofFish · 24/12/2021 10:16

Cookies
cauli cheese
2 types of potato
Ice the cake

annonymousse · 24/12/2021 10:20

I'm making French onion soup for the first course tomorrow and just musing over whether to par boil the potatoes but worried they will discolour if I do them now

WeeFae · 24/12/2021 10:21

Making the stuffing, ready to bake tomorrow.
Parboil sprouts & potatoes, ready to heat/roast tomorrow.
Braised red cabbage, ready to reheat tomorrow.
Make the trifle.

CharSiu · 24/12/2021 10:21

We all sit round the kitchen table and prep veg together whilst listening to carols. We do everything. I have just made some cookies for DS from a cookery book of the game we play together called Destiny 2. They look great and I am really pleased with them. I’m just finishing chocolate truffles made from kit kats as it’s his favourite chocolate for DH.

@BiddyPop I’m so glad I read your post I almost forgot to take out the sausages for pigs in blankets out of the freezer

deadlanguage · 24/12/2021 10:26

Baking mince pies (mincemeat already made and bought pastry so more an assembly job) and stollen, and Lebkuchen and Zimtsterne if I have time - still need to wrap all the presents today!
And veg wise just prepping potatoes, sprouts, carrots I think. I think the green beans I bought are already trimmed.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 24/12/2021 10:29

I'm making white chocolate cheesecake (the Nigella one because she's been my crush for eons and all her food is heaven on a plate), and chocolate truffle puddini, a recipe by.. you guessed it.. Nigella Xmas Grin

Also I need to crack on with the Coca Cola ham.. no prizes for guessing who's recipe this time, you've had enough hints Xmas Wink

antisocialsocialclub · 24/12/2021 10:31

Nothing Blush I just cook it all tomorrow. I mean, I could chop the carrots I guess but that takes 5 minutes Blush

Xtraincome · 24/12/2021 10:31

Making pastry for mince pie tart and cherry crumble pie for our desserts.

Lay table and breakfast bar (that is, make it festive)

Not doing a roast tomorrow so am excited to not be prepping any savoury.

Ieatmarmite · 24/12/2021 10:32

I'm making a veggie nut roast so today my plan is to make the mix up and leave it in the fridge to cook tomorrow. I'll also prepare my sprouts. I've got some chestnuts too and I'll roast and shell them today, to try and save a bit of time tomorrow.

HelenaJustina · 24/12/2021 10:33

I’ve made the Christmas flapjack, cooked the spiced beef which is now cooling in its cooking water, prepared the stuffing and decorated the cake.

I’ll peel the potatoes and put them under water later, ditto carrots.

BahBumbug · 24/12/2021 10:44

I've prepped all the veg and I'm making the stuffing today and will re-heat tomorrow
Will parboil the potatoes when I get up in the morning

AfterEightMintyCedric · 24/12/2021 10:44

Bacon and shallots to add to the parsnips (already prepped and frozen last week)

Spuds peeled and in pan of water

Carrots, Cauli, sprouts

Stuffing.

WontBeSurprised · 24/12/2021 10:51

Nothing.
DH is currently cooking the ham and doing some dusting while I've got my feet up with a brew Xmas Grin
I might peel the sprouts later on if I feel like it.

Roominmyhouse · 24/12/2021 11:00

I’m going to par boil my spuds.
Peel and chop all the veg and put in water.
Make stuffing balls.
Make pigs in blankets.

Hoping tomorrow I only need to put things in the oven and turn on pans!

ancientgran · 24/12/2021 11:02

I've started a trifle, made an apple pie but that's for tonight and I'm going to do the sprouts/carrots etc later.

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 24/12/2021 11:03

I love Christmas Eve prep! This afternoon I will make mince pies and a sponge cake ( we prefer this to fruit cake) and 2 lots of stuffing - sage and onion and sausagemeat.

DD is going to make fudge and may make some biscuits. DD will also decorate the cake I make, well , we will do this together. We’ve got quite a few daft decorations to put on top.

It’s only 4 of us tomorrow so no need to do any veg prep, veg for 4 people doesn’t take long!

Late this pm I’ll cook the ham, and we’ll have warm ham sandwiches using a crusty loaf I’ve just bought for supper. Then have ham available for the rest of the holiday.

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 24/12/2021 11:04

And most important, put the wine in the fridge for tomorrow!

HamCob · 24/12/2021 11:05

Do potatoes go brown if you parboil them? 🤔

CovidCorvid · 24/12/2021 11:05

Nut roast
Gammon/ham

FireMeetGasoline · 24/12/2021 11:08

Just the mushroom wellington for me. That is only because by the time it got to doing dinner last year I was a little bit drunk Grin. Don't want to mess about with pastry, even if it is pre-prepared, after a few beverages.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 24/12/2021 11:23

How do I prep my roasties please? Par boil, cool, toss in flour and seasoning then fridge and cover with foil? I won’t have black spuds tomorrow will I?

Inextremis · 24/12/2021 11:33

The ham's going on later, then I'll peel the spuds, parsnips, and carrots before bed. Job done.

PicturesOfLily · 24/12/2021 11:39

I’ve just made the meringue for a roulade. I made the cherry compote last night but I won’t assemble it until tonight or maybe tomorrow morning in case it goes soggy. Still have to prep the beef wellington once my dad drops off the fillet later but my mum will prep the veg in the morning. Can’t wait for dh to finish work to look after dc for a bit!
