Well, Morrison's cancelled my christmas delivery

After telling me it would be 2 hours late, so keeping me waiting until after the store was closed (got stuck with the last slot as got no notification about them opening the bloody bookings so had to take the dregs). Now I get to go shopping on christmas eve, which is particularly wonderful as I'm CEV. Obviously all tomorrows slots are long gone, the earliest I can rebook is the 27th.

Thankfully all xmas dinner is bought already as I've read so many warning posts about subs. But we still need 'normal' food for the next few days.

They'd better be planning a serious apology gesture to all the customers who got let down. At least they didn't make the driver work until 2am, which would be objectively worse!

I hope you've got your shopping now OP.

We had the most lovely driver yesterday from Tesco, he was really friendly and calm. We had a chat and when I asked if he had a mad few days ahead he said yes but the people in store had it worse so spare a thought for them. He waved us off with a merry Christmas and a smile. 4-5 things subbed and apparently no paracetamol in Tesco so they didn't deliver that but all in all, a positive experience.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 24/12/2021 08:49

Are you going to starve to death in the meantime? You've already said you gave enough food.

Retail staff are on their knees. Delivery drivers don't appear. And they don't need abuse from you. Have a bit of respect for fellow humans.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 24/12/2021 09:00

I planned to go to Aldi yesterday at 7am. I usually shop with ocado but can never get a Christmas slot. The past few years I've been to Aldi at 7am. This year I double checked the opening times online, yep definitely 7. I got there at 6.50 to find the bastards have changed their opening to 8am! I went to Sainsbury's instead and while it was busy, they had everything I needed. I hope you get sorted op. Merry Christmas everyone xxx

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/12/2021 09:10

Really good resolution to this! I didn't manage to get up in time for the very early shop but as I was putting my things together to leave I got a call to say they've got someone in to do the missed deliveries this morning!

Driver will def be getting a christmas box :) He had to ring everyone and I got the vibe that not everyone was polite about it...

Thank you for all the help. I'll definitely remember advice for the future and hopefully other people will benefit from it too.

Good resolution but - what time was the call? As I was in a supermarket at 6;45 this morning through choice. If I'd done a full shop to replace a missing delivery at that time and then got a call around 8:30 to say they could deliver after all, I would not have been impressed ...

jputthekettleon · 24/12/2021 09:12

I work for a different supermarket in their online department. I think it’s poor you didn’t receive a phone call explaining what has happened and how they would rectify. We have a skeleton staff of drivers and assistants in on Xmas eve despite not delivering so, for example, if there was a problem the day before they could deliver on Xmas eve. I hope they contact you and arrange a re delivery

jputthekettleon · 24/12/2021 09:13

As an aside as we are closed for Boxing Day this year our veggies were empty yesterday as we aren’t getting a delivery as usual so close to Xmas day as won’t be trading again until 27th but everything else was well stocked including turkeys last night

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/12/2021 09:15

Oh and I promise I wasn't rude to any staff. I just vented on here. I know it isn't going to be the fault of anyone, just a cascade of issues.

My husband is severely visually impaired and it's always roulette with sell by dates and picking up the right things when he goes. Didn't want to add that as all the woes would make it look like a begging thread lol. Though tbf, him picking up covid and passing it to me would have the same effect as going myself.

I’m glad it’s worked out OP - good job you didn’t get up though!

Oblomov21 · 24/12/2021 09:20

Phew. Poor though!

Beautiful3 · 24/12/2021 09:22

Thatsxa great update op!

Doobydoo · 24/12/2021 09:24

So pleased it was sorted OP. This tear for us on 22nd...all the ordered meat was missing..beef,gammon etc and chicken, tuna ,pigs in blankets and stuffing. Over 60 quids worth. Trying to sort it withcustomer service which is pretty crap tbh. I would like the money back.

jputthekettleon · 24/12/2021 09:35

Ah I missed your update glad they did the right thing and you got your shopping

PrivateHall · 24/12/2021 10:05

Yeh, so glad it is all sorted! Well done to the driver working an extra shift to get everyone sorted!

MyDcAreMarvel · 24/12/2021 10:17

@TheHoptimist they do pick from stores
they used Ocado until about a year ago but now stores
It’s area dependent if you have the white app they pick from a warehouse, green and a store.

JohnSmithDrive · 24/12/2021 10:19

Supermarkets are quiet Christmas Eve afternoon.

It's very frustrating, but with the numbers of drivers off sick, how could they have avoided it?

AdoraBell · 24/12/2021 10:29

Glad it’s been sorted 👍 I was going to suggest something like Deliveroo, my DD is stuck in Uni accommodation due to Covid and she’s getting groceries delivered by them.

BoredZelda · 24/12/2021 10:39

If you are CEV and need particular brands for picky husband, can picky husband not do the shop?

Yep. And picky husband should have made sure there wasn’t a Christmas Eve shop to be done, should have sorted it a week ago.

ancientgran · 24/12/2021 10:40

Glad you got it sorted. I was worried about my Sainsbury's delivery last night, due between 9 pm and 10 pm. I started to think there would be lots of things missing or strange subs or maybe no delivery but he actually arrived 15 minutes early, 4 substitutions but all reasonable e.g. French brie instead of Somerset brie, nothing missing. Such a relief.

Just waiting to hear if DD and DSiL will be here tomorrow. He needs a negative LFT today and tomorrow and then 100 mile drive to join us. Fingers crossed. I'm not feeling too optimistic as I think I'd have got a phone call if he got a negative but I'm not giving up yet.

ChiefStockingStuffer · 24/12/2021 10:41

When they open. Hope you've already been in and out.

ancientgran · 24/12/2021 10:41

Maybe read the OPs explanation about her severely visually impaired husband. With his disability and her CEV a delivery was obviously the sensible idea.

As to doing it all a week ago, don't people want fresh milk/bread/salad/fruit etc?

WonderfulYou · 24/12/2021 10:45

Wow I’d be raging!
Luckily you’re not isolating!

The shops were heaving yesterday but I can imagine that was so people wouldn’t need to go shopping today.
So hopefully all the shops will be quiet today.

FuzzyPuffling · 24/12/2021 10:46

Morrisons is the shittiest supermarket in the history of the world.

I hope you manage to get some food OP!

WorraLiberty · 24/12/2021 10:56

So glad to read your update OP Xmas Smile

And a good job you didn't get up early to go and do it!

Brainwave89 · 24/12/2021 11:16

Morrison's is my default supermarket, and on the whole I find them to be very good. However OP on the occasions I have tried to get in touch on an internet shop I simply could not get through at all, and I really doubt you will at Christmas. Ironically in my case, it was before Easter and they had delivered two legs of lamb (£50 in total), and not charged me for them. Struggled to find a number, and then could not get through, and when I did they could not deal with my query, and did not know who could !
