My butcher has let me down with a game pie so we may have to make do with MILs butcher's small ham and chicken ones instead - and that's not even guaranteed.

** not actually mine but on a WhatsApp group where we're all seriously invested in helping solve this terrible quandary..

Any other suitably trivial yet high class problems in your house tonight?!

I've made far too much Lebkuchen

The Christmas tree is too short

The cleaner hasn't dusted the rafters and I keep putting my hands in cobwebs when I hang up the tinsel!

It's too warm to need the heating on so my scented candles on top of the radiators aren't making the house smell of figgy pudding

My family's presents are in garden office and that feels like miles away - I'm going to have to walk across the drive before I can wrap them, and I'd rather slob out here!

Life is very hard for me, clearly.

I smugly thought I had Boxing Day food sorted, and was lulled into a false sense of 'all is well' security until I had a quiet moment think and realised all I had actually bought was a massive ham and some potatoes.

Now need to brave tesco again for salad, sides, pudding and everything else.

No idea why I thought I had it under control. I think I had the main component ticked off, so in my baby brained head that was job done. Could have been really awkward.

orderlyfashion · 23/12/2021 13:38

Just spent £125 on an online Christmas shop but don't actually have any food for meals today and tomorrow

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/12/2021 14:23

I can’t find an acceptable pudding for the (grown up) kids.
My fridge is full.
Every time we use sellotape the dog goes crazy.

CaptainCallisto · 23/12/2021 14:55

I couldn't find muscovado sugar for love nor money, so my 98 year old Granny's Christmas tea loaf (her present request every year) will have to be made with bog-standard 'soft brown'. Hopefully she won't notice!

Also, DS2 (8) has just looked at the shopping list from this morning and said "Muuum! We forgot the turkey butt-lemon!". DH will just have to nip into the supermarket on his way to work this evening!

Hoardasaurusterf · 23/12/2021 15:03

I will be working over Christmas and still have to cook dinner for 7 of us. My dh is disabled & not able to help much at all so i will be replying on teenage dcs to clean house and start prepping for dinner as I finish at 8pm tomorrow 😱
I will then have to go do a nightshift Christmas night after being up all day cooking , collecting ILs etc.

Will make the best of it & if dinner isnt up to usual standard then we'll just be grateful to have full bellies! Grateful to have a job and money to buy food, gifts etc!

EllieSattler · 23/12/2021 15:13

We have tickets for Disney On Ice tomorrow but today's shows have been cancelled (covid obvs) so we're waiting to hear if our show is cancelled too.

onedayoranother · 23/12/2021 15:14

Exactly my thoughts @PinkArt

AuntMasha · 23/12/2021 15:16

I’ve overestimated the sprouts.

Midwinterblues · 23/12/2021 16:41

@EddieVeddersfoxymop what about watercress instead of kale for your soup?

ProfessionalWeirdo · 23/12/2021 17:26

I bought some cakes which were priced at £2.85 each or two for £5. I bought two but when I got home and studied the receipt I found I'd been charged £5 each. Luckily we live quite close to the shop so I went back, checked the shelf display, then found the manager and politely queried the error. I got a £5 refund and a grovelling apology.

PumpkinEye · 23/12/2021 18:02

@FoofOfTheWalkingDead

Just doing a quick check with DH of the gifts we got for DS. SOMEONE forgot to get the second lego set we'd agreed on and it's no longer available. There is no way on God's green earth I will be going anywhere near the lego store tomorrow. Now poor DS will only have one set to build which will last him til about 11am.
Not you, but your dh can..
PeeAche · 23/12/2021 20:06

It took me 17 minutes to find the vermouth in Waitrose today - for the Christmas turkey brine. I asked a teenager but he took me to the vodka. First world problems.

onedayoranother · 23/12/2021 20:17

I did a Sainsburys food to order costing £150 (turkey, vegetables, pigs in blanket tree, beef for Boxing Day and fish pie for Christmas Eve), then had a Tesco order delivered totalling £250. There are three of us.

AnnaBegins · 23/12/2021 21:16

I forgot to buy mince pies for father Christmas and now will have to remortgage the house to buy a box from the village shop Xmas Blush

LadyCatStark · 23/12/2021 21:44

I’ve had too much fun today and now I’m really tired!

FusionChefGeoff · 25/12/2021 00:30

Picked up my butchers order yesterday and am now gutted he did proper pigs in blankets not mini ones so mahoosive sausages not dinky crispy bacony nibbles. They're going to take hours to cook!

AllLopsided · 25/12/2021 00:46

Oh no OP - giant pigs Xmas Shock

I cleared all the clutter out of the dining room including moving everything off the table and now it looks bare Xmas Blush

GregTheEgg · 25/12/2021 01:29

I couldn’t find the Christmas stockings so had to fashion some out of carrier bags Grin. Luckily mine are all teens so very understanding that sometimes even Santa drops a ball.

Onlyabean · 25/12/2021 01:36

I thought I bought a Christmas dinner service for 6 people but I misread the box, so it is for 4 people only. I can’t get another set as it is now sold out everywhere.
