My butcher has let me down with a game pie so we may have to make do with MILs butcher's small ham and chicken ones instead - and that's not even guaranteed.

** not actually mine but on a WhatsApp group where we're all seriously invested in helping solve this terrible quandary..

Any other suitably trivial yet high class problems in your house tonight?!

I thought I bought two nice reels of red ribbon, I accidentally bought one glittery and it’s ruining my low plastic Christmas and now my rug is red and glittery. On the plus side my wrapping is still pretty

No fresh cranberries at Asda. Had to settle for a jar. No Rosemary either. Christmas ruined.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/12/2021 03:14

@EddieVeddersfoxymop

I braved tesco today.......I'm making an interesting soup for starters that needed kale. Can I find kale in any format? No I cant.
I once made a soup that needed kale. The kale in it was very horrible and ruined the soup. Your soup has been saved from kale horribleness. The supermarket did you a favour!
EddieVeddersfoxymop · 23/12/2021 08:12

@ApolloandDaphne ha ha thanks! I shall look at my first world problem with a different view now! Wondering what I could use instead of the kale........

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2021 08:23

@Nidan2Sandan send him over! That's my job today

@EddieVeddersfoxymop any allotments near you?? My garden kale is yours if you can get to me! What's the recipe and we'll see what might work instead (or yes, just leave it out??)

@Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas good luck - we had a glue together version which was great fun but reading descriptions of the actual make your own does sound like baking hell.

@iklboodolphrednosedpaindear fuuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkkk that's shit

@FireworkParrot that's excellent for the theme of this thread though so we salute your sacrifice. Ps I can confirm smoked salmon pate is indeed a piece of piss if you're interested in a recipe...

@PinkArt like the corrections there

My fancy Xmas food has been hidden in boxes on top of the cupboards in the utility for weeks. DH looked most put out when I told him last night (we'd just had takeaway so I was banking on him being too full to launch into them there and then!

@FelicityBeedle stunning wrapping!!!!

@Nidan2Sandan

DH won't stop obsessively cleaning around me, ready for xmas despite the fact I am still trying to work.

He is doing a good job though Xmas Grin

Send him round if he’s annoying you!!
Treaclepie19 · 23/12/2021 08:43

Our advocaat didn't come from Ocado 😒

IcedAbstinente · 23/12/2021 08:46

I can't be bothered to drive 20 mins to Waitrose to buy one of their seafood platters so am making do with smoked salmon and cabiar instead.

IcedAbstinente · 23/12/2021 08:46

-caviar

BeanyBops · 23/12/2021 08:49

I've got four tubs of Christmas flavoured cream left, because I adore it, but I'm running out of vehicles for it. We've gone through two tubs with 12 mince pies over the last couple weeks and I'm getting bored of mince pies. I have a Xmas pudding waiting for the big day, but that's more because of tradition and again - being a classic vehicle for some flavoured cream.

I'm considering eating brownies with flavoured cream but we aren't digging into those until Xmas Eve dinner.

I just want more flavoured cream and something good to eat it with.

IcedAbstinente · 23/12/2021 08:51

@thebear1

I have to take the cat to the cattery tomorrow, not sure who hates the journey more, me or the cat.
Not to derail but I once took my cat to the cattery. She was in her basket yowling and the pissed inside the box. (Stupid me did not put a towel down). I met a tractor coming at speed from the other direction on the tiny lane and had to do an emergency stop. Cat and box goes headfirst into the footwell and urine went all over the carpet.

That was fun.

mnahmnah · 23/12/2021 08:52

The nut roast I ordered in my online shop is small. I usually have half for Christmas Day dinner with the in-laws and half on Boxing Day for Christmas Day 2 with my family. I won’t have enough for both so not sure what I’ll eat on Boxing Day.

Top a trifle with it? EddieVeddersfoxymop ; how about baby spinach?
CrackersDontMatter · 23/12/2021 08:59

All my supermarket substitutions were smaller than what I ordered. So I have most things but not enough of them.

labazslovesliving · 23/12/2021 08:59

thought I would try to stop arguments in their tracks this year. I buy Christmas food over a few weeks as I see it and DP tends to eat whatever is in the fridge or cupboard hence the arguments when I find I have to find and rebuy items. Therefore when unpacking I wrote on packets in big letter XMAS hasn't worked though! the crisps have gone but I am not worried as they are the Co-op pigs in blankets so won't be replacing them as I don't eat meat things! ps he said this morning they were gross!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/12/2021 09:04

I really really wanted to buy a trifle (on the back of the Trifle Thread)

Don't know why exactly , my DS won't eat it , DD might eat some , I don't like custard and DH wouldn't eat a whole one .

They looked a bit sad and squished in the shop so I resisted ......now there's a gap on the Dessert Trolley

forressttheouut · 23/12/2021 09:08

Our guests have got covid so now I will have to wear my pyjamas all day and eat the entire 4kg of beef to myself.

ShoeJunkie · 23/12/2021 09:08

Tesco didn’t deliver my twiglets Sad

SockFluffInTheBath · 23/12/2021 09:09

I forgot to buy crackers for the table. Christmas just won’t be Christmas without a cheap tissue paper hat sliding off my head and onto my plate. Sigh.

Xmas Grin

That sounds like a result!
BiddyPop · 23/12/2021 09:14

DH enjoyed telling me over breakfast about the twitter posts of doom that is our local Dunnes Stores - I have done bag packing there coming up to Christmas for our Scout group a few years (and we've been reliable enough that they asked us back for 24th a few times) and it is absolute chaos!! I don't even drive there myself, I get DH to drop my off on the other side of the motorway and I walk across the footbridge....

I think he realised this morning that it really IS a thing!! (Cos he never comes in, or actually near it, so never saw the chaos - but a few people have posted photos). The queues from the checkouts are not the usual 1-2 people long, but go all the way back to the back wall of fridges, which is 3 sets of aisles back...and managers walk along the queues giving out chocolates while people wait.

SaborDeSoledad · 23/12/2021 09:15

The duck fat I ordered with the online shop ran out. They sent Crisp 'N' Dry instead!

forressttheouut · 23/12/2021 09:17

@SockFluffInTheBath @boatyardblues I do actually very much like the guests they are friends not family but not having to put on real clothes all day is a bonus Blush Although the dog will probably be awfully embarrassed by my plan to walk him in my pyjama leggings

Xiaoxiong · 23/12/2021 09:17

I ordered a capon for Christmas, saw the payment had been declined after the order cut off so panicked and called local butcher and got a Turkey to pick up 23rd. Surprised to have 3.5kg capon turn up yesterday but felt too embarrassed to cancel turkey as butcher and I had had long chat about how thankful I was to get hold of one, how it was the last one left etc. and I had asked for a gammon for Christmas Eve for good measure!

So I made the capon last night, just for the 4 of us, stripped meat off bones and now have a mountain of meat and carcass in the freezer BEFORE we even pick up the turkey and gammon...!
