Are there shortages?

I was just wondering if anyone has actually noticed shortages, as were predicted earlier in the year?

I've noticed that a lot of stuff seems to be out of stock in our Argos, and not available for delivery. But the same stuff is available C&C from Smyths or Entertainer, so is it just that Argos is a bit rubbish? Annoyingly I live really close to Argos but nowhere near the other toy retailers!

Our local Coop and tescos don't seem to have had any own brand mince pies. It just seems to be Luxury ones at £2 a box or bakery ones. I like just the normal ones ! Our local Coop also frequently seems to have no bread.

Multipacks of crisps are an issue here as are bin bags.

And reasonably priced snowsuits age 2-3. Have tried Sainsburys, Marks, Next, John Lewis and a number of other places and there’s nothing nice that’s available in that size under about £40. The nicer ones on eBay are going for nearly new prices. Have ended up ordering one from Mountain Warehouse.

I have noticed shortages and have struggled to get a couple of thinks the DC have asked for as gifts. Mainly the elusive PS5 console and the budget iPad. I had to buy the ipad second hand and have given up on the console.

Food wise i have noticed random shortages on and off for weeks.

Oh and NO tubs of chocolates in my local co op.
Not one and they aren't getting any in either

snowmanshoes · 13/12/2021 13:53

I’m having several issues with deliveries. Orders that were guaranteed on or before 10th still have no tracking info but I have received a few emails to confirm I’ll get delivery this week! Fingers crossed

Incywinceyspider · 13/12/2021 14:00

B&Ms food gift sets section was practically empty the other day. And I can't find any Buck's Fizz. I'm sure we'll survive without it!

@Opal8

Brexit: Less choice More expensive You were warned 🤷‍♀️ Sadly, covid is a gift to brexshitters as they will blame brexit issues (which have been predicted and well documented for years..) on covid. It'll be like the 1970s again...enjoy!
Not sure why so aggressive? I voted remain FWIW but I wasn't complaining, just asking if people had noticed shortages. "You were warned" so people aren't allowed to ask innocent questions?

Pipers crisps have run out of all the good flavours.

There is literally a wall of chocolate tubs in our local Tesco...perhaps they got your Co-op's delivery Grin
CookSproutsInSoySauce · 13/12/2021 14:42

Not noticed any shortages here.
Plenty of chocolate and pringles Grin

No issues with Argos here, only got 1 thing from Argos and it was available for delivery. Usually when I want anything its only available for collection, so better service than usual here!

Cat food and cat litter has been v hard to get hold of on a budget.

@MamaWeasel

Cat food and cat litter has been v hard to get hold of on a budget.
Lidl “temporarily discontinued” their cat litter and it was impossible to find another cheap clumping litter. We had to buy some bags that were about £7 each compared to the Lidl ones which are about £2. Luckily it was only about 2 months before Lidl got it back in.
IncessantNameChanger · 13/12/2021 16:44

I was in poundland today looking for colouring books. 50% of all shelfs was empty with the empty boxes on the shelfs. I wasnt sure if they leave the boxes there to make it look less sparce

BeefSupreme · 13/12/2021 16:48

I’ve also not been able to get ahold of a specific Christmas dessert from Aldi that I saw in their leaflet. I’m starting to think I won’t get it and I should look for an alternative elsewhere.

Luminousnose · 13/12/2021 17:17

There seems to be the occasional short-term gap on the shelves around here (Norfolk). Couldn’t get a cauli a few weeks ago - no problem now.

A lot of Christmas stuff always gets sold well before Christmas - as I’ve learned to my cost in the past. My Waitrose has more or less sold out of party food and I doubt they’ll restock. Also my favourite panettone always vanishes before we even get to December (definitely a First World problem!). Can’t find fresh cranberries at the moment either, but they may reappear. Sainsbury’s is similar. As someone said upthread, the supermarkets are much cannier about their Christmas ordering these days.

Things like the newest PlayStation and other popular toys have always been elusive when it gets closer to Christmas. I remember 30+ years ago asking one of my directors to get me a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle on a New York trip because they were completely sold out in the UK - I was oh so popular with my nephew! Xmas Grin

Just wanted to say that anyone who's looking for Cat litter on a budget - chick crumbs!

If you have a mole valley near you - or any agricultural shop for that matter get a huge bag of chick crumbs for about £8 it works just like cat litter, it doesn't smell and clumps just fine Grin

gogohm · 13/12/2021 17:36

@lockdownalli

Lidl was overflowing with frozen red cabbage today if it helps

I had the same issue getting dgd’s snowsuits, kept checking on next finally had one design in stock, might be worth checking availability every so often.
