As the title asks, what do you do on Boxing day?

We are staying in on Christmas day, so will have to get out for a couple of hours on Boxing day or toddler will become very restless.

We have a meal booked with extended family at 5pm, but will need to do something earlier in the day.

What do you do?

Last year we travelled 540 miles round trip on Xmas eve for FIL’s funeral, so Xmas day we did nothing and Boxing Day we went for a long walk along the coast with our dogs (which FIL would have loved so we talked about him lots on that walk) and then we had Xmas dinner in the evening. This year my parents will come (hopefully) and although Xmas dinner will be on Xmas day we will keep the long coastal walk on Boxing Day as a mini tribute to FIL x

@WhatDidISayAlan

If it’s dry we wrap up well and drive to Blackpool (an hour away max on Boxing Day). We take turkey sandwiches and hot Vimto in a flask, go for a walk on the beach or along the prom if the tide is in, then sit in a prom shelter and have a picnic out of the wind. Everywhere is shut but it blows away the cobwebs.
If you don't already know, the Lights are running through to new year this year so depending how long you stay (think they switch on around 5pm) you might have them to look at too.

Same as xmas day, eat too much, drink too much, fall asleep on the sofa. Maybe have friends round for buffet

OhGiveUp · 12/12/2021 11:45

We spend it in the pub 🍻

It's my most favourite day of the year!

Watch the cricket
Eat leftovers
Pack up the tree
Put everything away and have a good clean up
Read new book

@TheWeeDonkeyFella - we did that last year! Normally we’re on our way back but we did an afternoon walk. We don’t normally drive through the lights when we go in the Autumn as it’s just too crazy, but we had a free run, so we turned around and did them again Grin Thanks for the reminder!

A run or a walk and go to the football.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/12/2021 13:06

Very little. Games, tv, lots of lovely left overs. Boxing Day is great.

mykiki · 12/12/2021 13:07

Boxing Day is the best part of Xmas imo, lazing around all day in festive pyjamas eating all the leftovers from Xmas day and watching crap movies on tv. Might go for a walk if I can be assed or see some family and eat even more leftovers! Xmas Grin

Church if it falls on a Sunday, then a long walk up a nearby Iron Age hill fort, or at the beach etc, then the best meal of the year: cold meats from the day before, bubble and squeak, homemade chips, pickles and chutneys. Yum.

ChristmasTreeRock · 12/12/2021 14:46

Pre-Children I used to go into the city and go sale shopping.
Now we spend Christmas Day with one set of parents and Boxing Day with the other.

This year hoping to still do that. Usually go for a long walk.

We're at home for Boxing Day, first year ever!

Planning a cooked breakfast, lazy day followed by Turkey, stuffing and cranberry baguettes for dinner.

Normally we stay at my parents over night Christmas Day, then travel to visit the in laws Boxing Day afternoon. This year just seeing my parents for Christmas Day lunch, then in laws on the 27th. Think Boxing Day will be our favourite (we're a houseful of introverts Grin) !

BigRedDuck · 12/12/2021 22:46

Normally eat leftover meat sandwiches and lots of crap, and then a big walk with my best friend, DCs, the dogs and whichever family members decide to join us. Some years there's 15 of us, other times there's just the four of us, it's great fun! Normally take a glass of wine for the way and stop in at a pub if we can find one.

Hospitality at the football. Hopefully.

Nothing different to any other day except we usually have a buffet dinner
