What do you do on Boxing day?

As the title asks, what do you do on Boxing day?

We are staying in on Christmas day, so will have to get out for a couple of hours on Boxing day or toddler will become very restless.

We have a meal booked with extended family at 5pm, but will need to do something earlier in the day.

What do you do?

Used to always head to the sales first thing but not recently.

Just redo Xmas day really!
Eat, drink, watch TV, play with kids, go for a walk if dry.

Cuwins · 11/12/2021 19:24

Eat leftovers/chocolate and watch football- either on TV or live depending on the schedule, live this year all being well!

Novasmummy · 11/12/2021 19:26

Is 'nothing' a suitable answer?

If not then watching Christmas movies in my pyjamas whilst eating a family size trifle would have to be the only suitable response, surely? Maybe sub the trifle for body weight in chocolate and twiglets

Holothane · 11/12/2021 19:27

Eat read bliss watch dvds.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 11/12/2021 19:30

We spend Xmas Eve & Day with my family so Boxing Day is a lay in, special breakfast, walk round the reservoir, board games, watching the TV we missed and having a special dinner. With lots of champagne!

NortieTortie · 11/12/2021 19:37

We see MIL Xmas so boxing day lunch time is spent with SIL and her family, then evening is my parents and siblings.

I'd much rather a nap and finish off the rest off the port Grin

Thegreencup · 11/12/2021 19:37

We visit family. I refuse to leave the house on Christmas day. So we see in laws boxing day afternoon and my family in the evening.

I do think the toddler stage is awkward at Christmas. They didn't really understand why it's different, want their usual routine and have a bit of an over excited meltdown. Meanwhile you want to relax and unwind but still need to get up depressingly early. It gets a bit better when they're 4.

I’m working can’t wait

BunTooti · 11/12/2021 21:08

Big, fat, lovely, nothing...topped with all the cheese.
I'm getting an oodie this year, so it'll be all of that whilst hiding in an oodie Grin

peaceanddove · 11/12/2021 22:36

Always spend it with family. This year, we're going out for Christmas lunch with my cousin and her family. And on Boxing Day we're visiting DH's family for pressies, long walk and an excellent meal (BIL is a fantastic cook).

Timeisavirtue · 11/12/2021 22:57

Usually we have a Buffet ready for Boxing Day football, during the day we play games, watch tv and sort out prezzies so they ain’t taking up the whole room 😄

WhatDidISayAlan · 11/12/2021 23:05

If it’s dry we wrap up well and drive to Blackpool (an hour away max on Boxing Day). We take turkey sandwiches and hot Vimto in a flask, go for a walk on the beach or along the prom if the tide is in, then sit in a prom shelter and have a picnic out of the wind. Everywhere is shut but it blows away the cobwebs.

Tayegete · 12/12/2021 05:33

Usually a chill out day with films, board games and food but we are hosting PIL this year so will be a bit more stressy.

itsgettingwierd · 12/12/2021 06:02

Why stay in xmas day?

Both days you could take toddler for a walk or run around outside or to the park.

That sort of getting out daily is needed usually for toddlers (and their parents) sanity! It doesn't need to be a 'trip' out.

MincePieIceCream · 12/12/2021 06:45

Lie-in, big breakfast, walk, then home to eat-watch tv-sleep-repeat.

DH and the kids are going to a football match this year, though, so I’ll have the house to myself and will mainly just eat and sleep Grin.

OfMinceAndMen · 12/12/2021 07:21

We go for a morning walk with my SIL and BIL who will have stayed over. My MIL and FIL aren't mobile so stay put at our house.
Then we pray to God that they all bugger off before lunch time.
Then I put the house back to normal from their visit and me and DH cook up a pan of bubble 'n' squeak. I then lie in a vegetative state all afternoon, recovering from the massive sensory overstimulation of the previous day!

wasthataburp · 12/12/2021 07:25

Relaxed at home with alllll the leftovers. Kids might have some presents still to open as they can get a bit overwhelmed on Xmas day. Drink lots of alcohol and play games. Go for a dog walk

GoodnightGrandma · 12/12/2021 07:27

DH and the kids go to the football, so I tidy up then sit round eating chocolate and watching whatever I want.
Then I Chuck the left over turkey into a curry for tea 😋

bumblingbovine49 · 12/12/2021 07:34

Eat only leftovers / fridge food all day and watch Christmas films mostly. Sometimes go for a walk

We don't have a toddler though . We would have definitely gone to the park at least when DS was very young There isn't much else to do really. Some years we would be driving back from a Christmas overnight stay with relatives and would plan a park stop on the way back

delilahbucket · 12/12/2021 07:45

DS goes to his dad's, we go for a long walk and then eat Christmas dinner round two and watch rubbish on tv 😁

ToastandJamandTea · 12/12/2021 07:53

We are going to our local small community theatre to watch their family production in the afternoon.

Yogaandcocoa · 12/12/2021 07:59

I would always go Boxing say sale shipping early in the day but haven't since last year.

hopeishere · 12/12/2021 08:08

Boxing Day is my favourite day! I lie about in my pjs reading, watching TV, eating, playing with the kids stuff.

DH loves to go to the sales and once dragged me with him and I hated it.

When we were kids it was always a day for loafing about!!

NinaProudman2022 · 12/12/2021 08:26

Boxing day usually lie in, have a leisurely breakfast, have a nice winter walk in a local beauty spot. Then home to nice foodie treats, lolling around, watching films and might play a board game.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 12/12/2021 08:36

I love going to the sales on boxing day !
Not ideal with a toddler I guess
In your position I'd get the house straight then go somewhere like a park / playground / beach walk . Blow the cobwebs away and work up an appetite for your family meal .
