As the title asks, what do you do on Boxing day?

We are staying in on Christmas day, so will have to get out for a couple of hours on Boxing day or toddler will become very restless.

We have a meal booked with extended family at 5pm, but will need to do something earlier in the day.

What do you do?

Tidy up. Go for a run.

Hopeandglory · 11/12/2021 08:26

host a huge party for friends and family

BeyondMyWits · 11/12/2021 08:28

Work.

This year we are going for a long walk in the Northumbrian hills with friends through the day, back home to change and for a pre-dinner drink (or two🥂🍾) then to a nice local Indian restaurant in the evening. The day after we have all the kids and extended family descending for food, alcohol and games 😂🎄

Nothing out of the ordinary really. I will do a buffet for dinner but otherwise it’s just a normal day. DS is grown up now so no toys and playing and the like.

Oh, I might take down the tree, assuming I can be arsed to put it up in the first place Grin

dottiedodah · 11/12/2021 08:35

Usually a nice walk with the dog.Sometimes see BIL and family .Have been to the Sales first thing in the past.Boycotted that now as unfair to poor shop staff to work Boxing Day .

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/12/2021 08:39

Go for a walk.
Eat leftovers.
And chocolates.
Watch something we’ve recorded but didn’t get around to watching before.
Just chill generally.
I love Boxing Day.

We go out somewhere as it's my birthday. We've been to the zoo, the London aquarium and this year are going to Madam Tussauds (these are the attractions that are open). Last year we went for a walk around a local town as we couldn't go up to London.

My boxing day is very laid back. DH and the kids are huge football fans so the watch whatever match is on sky/bt sport. He will make lunch of turkey and chips and garden peas, and then i head out for the afternoon walking with my headphones. Up a mountain or ill just meander round the hills and stay out till it gets dark. Then home for lots of port to warm up.

We don't leave the house on boxing day, its usually a pyjama day. We'll have some breakfast, it'll probably be leftover breakfast from the day before (I will have made a savory and sweet breakfast bakes) which means just a case of heating up and chucking on plates, minimal effort. We then spend the day having a proper look at all of our gifts. We've opened everything on Christmas day but I feel we don't get to really appreciate the gifts until boxing day as Christmas day is just manic! We'll watch some movies, play some board games eat chocolate for lunch and for dinner it's always a picky tea, left over meat, pigs in blankets; stuffing, cheese and Crackers, posh bread etc that's my favourite part about boxing day 😋

Pre having DD last year it would depend on where we had been for Christmas but would usually be a very lazy morning the visit family/friends. If we had travelled to visit family we would still be with them and would usually go for a walk somewhere pretty then out for lunch.

Last year was lockdown and DD still very small so we must watched tv and napped. This year we have a forest light trail Booked with my PIL so that should be nice

butterfly990 · 11/12/2021 10:08

Work 😬

Christmas1988 · 11/12/2021 14:11

We have a quiet Christmas Day then on Boxing Day we usually go for a walk along the cliffs and have a big family party at our house on Boxing Day evening. We play parlour games and have a buffet it’s really special and keeps the excitement going!

cjpark · 11/12/2021 14:42

Get up and go down to the beach, walk the dog, have a swim.
Come home, shower, put out buffet lunch.
Family come over to eat, play games and watch tv!

PositiveLife · 11/12/2021 15:32

Boxing day is actually my Xmas day (kids are at their dad's on Xmas day and come back to mine in the evening). The day after that we just have a fairly chilled day, mostly relaxing at home, go for a gentle walk (as opposed to a proper hike) and eat leftovers with salad. I'm hoping to have a quick wild swim too so will try and convince everyone to walk near my swim spot Xmas Wink.

Twobigsapphires · 11/12/2021 17:09

Shower and then put nice new pjs on for the day here. Spend most of the 20-25 hosting so Boxing Day is the one day I get to do Xmas my way. Everyone ca n eat and drink what they want.

Sausage rolls, Pringles and chocs usually the teens choice. Me and Dh have a ton of cheese, cold meats and Chablis. Usually watch films all day and curl up on the sofa.

Vicliz24 · 11/12/2021 17:46

It's our family day . I work in retail and often don't get home before 6pm on Christmas Eve . So Christmas Day is just myself and DH Boxing Day is our Christmas Day really.

Stellaris22 · 11/12/2021 17:48

Long walk (we go to the same place every year) followed by relaxing (TV and board games) and leftovers.

Apple40 · 11/12/2021 18:01

We go for a walk in the morning sometimes at the beach to see the seals .

lazylinguist · 11/12/2021 18:03

We are usually at PIL's for Boxing Day (having spent Christmas Day also with them or with my side of the family). Buffet lunch, a walk, games, beer (having had mostly wine on Christmas Day). We have no small children to kerp occupied, but tbh the Christmas and Boxing Day routine was much the same when thesc were little.

SingleHandSue · 11/12/2021 18:13

My DB and family will pop in in the morning, we exchange gifts and have a mince pie together.

We then lounge around and watch football and then I’ll do a huge buffet and we eat and drink too much.

This year DS2 will be working on Boxing Day so it’ll be weird that he’s out of the house 10-4.

thefirstmrsrochester · 11/12/2021 18:37

Go to whichever set of parents we didn’t have Christmas dinner with, for Christmas dinner #2. Then an earlyish night as we are off to Glencoe the next morning. If we aren’t locked down.

PoinsettaPrincess · 11/12/2021 18:42

We normally ski or take the dogs to play in the snow in the morning then home for hot soup and an afternoon relaxing.

Are you coming to Glencoe to ski?
