When do you decorate for Christmas?

OP posts:
ginslinger · 28/11/2021 17:06

about the 14th/15th December

KeyLimePies · 28/11/2021 17:21

Mid-December for me, then everything is taken down on 2nd January or thereabouts. I do find trees a bit of a ball-ache as I have to move furniture around to fit one in, so rarely bother with a proper tree. I tend to dress the mantle piece with a garland and put nice lights up.

lazylinguist · 28/11/2021 17:27

About 15th December. Decorations come down around 2nd/3rd Jan.

Nc123 · 28/11/2021 18:12

Today. It’s usually the first weekend in December but next weekend we are busy, so decided that as it’s the first Sunday of advent today was the day!

AuntieStella · 28/11/2021 18:22

Mid/late December (as we wait until after a family birthday)

But any time after Advent Sunday (today!) is fine

Chocachocaholic · 28/11/2021 18:22

First weekend in December

lonsdaleshorts · 28/11/2021 18:31

Up first Saturday after 1/12 so 4/12 this year. Down 27 or 28th.

MsSquiz · 28/11/2021 18:37

Ours go up on the first Of December and come down on New Year's Day

justaddcandlelight · 28/11/2021 18:43

Usually the 1st December and then I take them down on 27th ish. We have a real tree so it looks a bit sad after a while

Benjispruce5 · 28/11/2021 18:45

About 2 weeks in to December. Will probably be weekend of11th/12th this year.

VaguelyInteresting · 28/11/2021 18:49

Usually two weeks before Christmas. This year we’ll do it next weekend, as we’re away the weekend after, and it feels mean to DS to only have it up from the week before, when so many houses have theirs up already. We have a prelit fake tree now though, so it could go up whenever.

DS does already have a tiny potted (live) fir with a few decorations on in his bedroom now though - just because I saw it in the shop and seemed silly to put it away for a week arbitrarily.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/11/2021 18:51

Normally it's the weekend closest to the first, so they've been put up today. But last year they were up already!! I prefer the build up and as soon as Christmas is over they come down..they're never up passed NYE

Yuledo · 28/11/2021 18:51

Normally the first weekend of December but I’m away next weekend so did it today instead. The following weekend wouldn’t have been worth the effort as they wouldn’t be up for long.

Mantlemoose · 28/11/2021 18:53

Nearest weekend to 12 days so this year 11th December

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/11/2021 18:55

Past even.

Not until the solstice, but we are celebrating the turn of the year more than Christmas. We usually collect greenery from the woods a couple of days before to let it dry.

VestaTilley · 28/11/2021 19:36

Around the 18th Dec. Everything stays up until Epiphany.

DockOTheBay · 28/11/2021 19:39

First weekend of December, so next weekend

hiredandsqueak · 28/11/2021 19:43

After the schools have broken up so around 18th to 20th. I will buy a poinsettia in the next week or so that will be my only concession to Christmas before then.

AutumnAnn · 28/11/2021 19:46

Yesterday i put our living room tree up, I'll be putting the bedroom one up after work tomorrow and probably the 3rd one up on Tuesday

hiredandsqueak · 28/11/2021 19:48

@DanaScully53 your timescale would be my preference as well if I'm honest but the dc would complain.

Naughtynovembertree · 28/11/2021 19:50

We get a real tree and it's incredible how long they do last!
Usually two weeks before.
However I turn outdoor lights on sooner. They all get left up until we are fed up of them.

ZenNudist · 28/11/2021 19:53

Probably another 18th this year. Real tree so doesn't last well even if watered until new year.

Thatsplentyjack · 28/11/2021 19:56

I've just put coloured lights on my window bit that was only because I wanted to see if the clips worked 🤣. I won't put my three uo until next weekend or maybe even the week after. Dreading it going up this year though as baby Conan is on her feet.

Kitkat151 · 28/11/2021 20:03

1st December
