No idea what to get dd 8

Dd has written her list but it is all stuff she has seen on YouTube and either wildly expensive as shipping from the US or out of stock. Most of it is also some form of cuddly toy. She literally has hundreds, a lot are bagged up and in the loft.

As a result I have absolutely zero ideas of what to buy her for Christmas. Have queried with her dad if she has mentioned anything when with him but she hasn't.

So far she has
Tickets to Harry Potter studio
Board game
Harry potter hoodie
LOL doll thing

I know the studio tickets are expensive but they don't really amount to anything when wrapped.

Dp (we don't live together) has bought her a kids alexa that is a tiger and is planning to give her some money for going to Harry potter.

She is massively into art but we bought her tons of art stuff for her birthday in the summer. She plays a sport but has recently had all new kit as she needed it and had out grown everything.

What the hell do I buy her??!!

@alicemck she didn't sleep through the night from being 8 months til she had been on it for about 6 months. I have seen that it can cause mega issues and I had to put up one hell of a fight to get her specialist to agree to it, but fter 6 years of lotions and potions I had to do something as she was so unhappy. It was a hugely calculated risk but for us was so worth it. She is thriving which is amazing. It also seems to have lessened her asthma symptoms too. I firmly belive we need a Mr Frosty survivors group!

@thepoisonousmushroom dd uses my sewing machine and my mum has just cleared her loft out so I have inherited a mini one as well as an overlocker that dd is itching to play with!

8 is that funny age isn't it where they are getting too old for the "toys" that are advertised but too young for the next level things.

Dd has the switch lite because she saved her pocket money, birthday and Christmas money for over a year to buy it herself. She lives in it at her dad's but very rarely bothers with it here. She would rather curl up with a book or draw.

My neighbour and my dp bought her a small mountain of art stuff for her birthday in the summer so she definitely doesn't need any more...

Yes mine loves art/craft stuff but she has so much of it already!
My friend bought her a 3D pen for her birthday, she hasn’t had chance to try it yet but I think she’ll enjoy it.

Ah yes mine has a light box that she uses a lot. Also an LED drawing pad which is very simple but is a big hit and is used daily.

Lava lamp
Fitbit style watch
New coat/pjs

mummyof2boys30 · 14/11/2021 20:48

Not sure on your budget but my two boys age 11 and 9 absolutely love their liferyder scooter. It has inflatable tyres so can be used on grass, rough paths etc.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 14/11/2021 20:50

@ThePoisonousMushroom @Gliderx dp was looking at the projector things but they are far too young so when I was goigling ones for older kids those light boxes came up...are they really worth it? I do like the idea of them it they are worth it.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 14/11/2021 20:52

Ours has been worth it, DD loves it.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 14/11/2021 20:52

Just looking at the led drawing board, she has an app on her surface tablet that does the same as well as allowing her to use it as a notepad so probably not worth paying out for as the app cost me about £15

Terminallysleepdeprived · 14/11/2021 21:06

@Gliderx definitely a fave stocking gift here too. Have also got her a tolborone with her name on it too

How about some framed prints for her room? We got DD7 these and as they were A4 we found frames easily. I am sure you could find a large HP poster that would look very exciting and big under the tree.

I bought mine a Harry Potter chest, like the ones that the characters take on the train to school. I filled it with lots of Harry Potter themed gifts and a letter from Hogwarts.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 14/11/2021 21:26

@Woulditbeworth we only moved here 2 years ago and I redid her whole room, she has a similar set I bought from etsy but she took them down because the hideous tiger thing a friend of mine gave her and various frozen pictures are apparently "my style of things mummy" 🤦‍♀️

If she likes doing art, would it be worth getting her one of those storage picture frames so she can store and display her art in her room?

Fluffy socks

Gliderx · 15/11/2021 01:22

If you're coming down with teddies, one of those beanbags you stuff with teddies might be a hit.

SlurpleThePurple · 15/11/2021 09:43

I understand, it's a difficult age isn't it! My dd will turn 8 a few days before Christmas so I have a double whammy of presents to sort out.

She's also in-between where she's not really playing with many toys any more but not quite old enough for more 'grown up' tween type gifts.

She's massively in to digital art and does a lot of drawing and video editing on her iPad, so one of her presents will be an Apple pen (a refurbished one for about 60 quid, not a brand new one!). She's had a cheap £10 version from Amazon which she's used to death and it's not brilliant, so I know she will get the use out of it. Mine also loves cuddly toys but we are drowning in them too! I've bought her a couple of Japanese kawaii plushies as she's really in to that sort of thing. Also some accessories/stationary of Japanese characters she likes (Sanrio, so hello kitty etc). I've also got her some older reading age books as she could do with some, and I'm going to get her a voucher for an independent comic shop in our city as she loves graphic novels but they are £££!

I'm thinking maybe a onesie, some 'cool' accessories for her bedroom maybe? She still has LOL and My Little Pony cushions on her bed but she's not in to them any more, so possibly some replacements for them. She did ask for those LED lights all the teenagers seem to have at the moment so that might be an idea. You get a remote where they change colour. Another big hit we had recently was a galaxy light from Amazon. It's great and I secretly want one.

SlurpleThePurple · 15/11/2021 09:44

Oh also as someone suggested up thread, she's asked for a retro Tamagotchi! They are about £15 in Smyths Smile

FiddleFigs · 15/11/2021 09:51

There are quite a few Descendants books, which she might be interested in? My DD is Descendants mad and we've picked up quite a few recently for her Xmas present.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 15/11/2021 11:02

Thanks ladies.

She has a WiFi colour changing light in her room already that causes hours of comedy rows between her and dp who winds her up by telling alexa to change the colour etc.

She got a stack of books for her birthday and there is a new one from a dragon legend set due out soon so might try and get her that.

Problem is its not just me who needs to get for her. Her dad is asking as are his family etc. My parents are sorting out the annual pass for a local attraction that she loves, we must have been 60 times in the last 2 years and she still wants to go at every opportunity.

She has a surface pro laptop (bought second hand in lockdown from a friend) and I git her a cheap Pen for it for her birthday as she loves the digital art and notebook apps for it and has developed a real flare.

I am putting it out of my mind for a couple of days before I drive myself insane! She is with me tomorrow so I might drag her to smyths and see what she fussed over that isn't small, squishy or fluffy!

CactusLemonSpice · 15/11/2021 19:42

Might she like a kids camera, and a photo album to put her best pictures in?

Could work if she is quite creative and into art.

Or a secret diary with lock?
