Roast duck with marmalade glaze for main

Home made mead and cider for liquid refreshment

Usually turkey, pigs in blankets, some kind of stuffing (nothing fancy, just from a packet), roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts, peas, braised red cabbage, gravy. DP always insists on buying cranberry sauce, of which about 1 tsp gets eaten.
This year we will be at DP's sister's on the day so I don't know what we'll eat.

Bloodybridget · 26/10/2021 09:08

@cheesecurdsandgravy that's fantastic, what a success in your first year of growing vegetables! I bet it will all be delicious!

MaitlandGirl · 26/10/2021 09:29

I cook loads but everyone likes different things - I like to make sure everyone has their favourites at Christmas.

Roast lamb, roast pork, roast chicken, pigs in blankets, pork chippolatas, beef chippolatas, roast potatoes, yorkie pies, honey roast parsnips / sweet potato / carrots / red onion, broccoli & cauliflower cheese, carrot & swede mash, potato & sweet potato mash, sprouts with bacon, buttered leeks with bacon, plain buttered leeks, stuffing, gravy.

Some dishes are only for 1 person, others are for all of us so while it’s a lot to cook our plates aren’t overflowing.

@cheesecurdsandgravy

I accept this makes me sound like a right wanker, but, if I can’t boast anonymously on mumsnet, where can I..?! We are having sprouts, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, red cabbage and roasted onion gravy all from the garden (my first year of growing veg!) and I’ve been foraging massive wanker bit nuts all September and October for a home made nut roast - hazelnuts, walnuts and sweet chestnuts.

I’m not making my own wine… maybe next year Grin

cheesecurdsandgravy

home grown veg sounds delicious. i am envious!

I have the image of you in the wilderness snaffling nuts like Squirrel Nutkin Grin

I could murder a big plate of Christmas dinner right now!

We usually have roast chicken, Nigella’s ham in coke with the brown sugar & treacle glaze and a small, rolled, stuffed Turkey breast from M&S as a token. My days of roasting a huge Turkey are over!

Pigs in blankets, a few different stuffings (sage & onion, pork sage & onion, pork , chestnut & cranberry), roast potatoes & maple syrup roast parsnips & carrots. Red cabbage, cauli cheese. Yorkshire puddings!

Prefer lots of lightly steamed green veg to anything else too rich - Brussels, peas, broccoli, green beans.

Gravy & cranberry sauce. Didn’t grow up with bread sauce, so don’t really understand the concept.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 27/10/2021 16:23

@Bloodybridget & @jamandmarmalade thank you! I am ridiculously, immodestly proud of my efforts. Obvs. Mr. Cheese asked why we haven’t foraged a Turkey. I told him he can poach a salmon for next year if it bothers him so much 🤣

katesbushh · 27/10/2021 17:07

Turkey
Sage and onion stuffing
Mash ( eldest dd hates roast)
Roast potatoes
Sprouts
Carrots
Red cabbage
Yorkshire puddings ( I know I know)
And for me only, not sure when and how this tradition started but mushy peas Grin I adore them unlike everyone else who thinks they don't go with a Christmas lunch.

waves to a fellow forager!

This year we've had wild garlic scones, nettle pesto, elderflower cordial, blackberry crumble and jam and hoping to make rosehip syrup soon.
