Meat (3 bird roast this year probably), roast potatoes, roasted root veggies eg carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, beetroot, mashed swede, Brussels, stuffing- I like pork sage and onion but if dd1 is home it will be sage, onion, cranberry and cinnamon as she's veggie and I'm not making 2 kinds. Bread sauce and gravy. Personally I don't do pigs in blankets too salty

In an ideal world I'd also have mash, yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese and bread sauce on there but I find it too much of a faff so try to keep it simple but traditional.

Roast Turkey crown, stuffed with sage and onion and sausage meat.
Pigs in blankets
Roast potatoes and parsnips
Roast peppers, sweet potatoes and onions
Steamed broccoli, cauliflower, mange toutes,
Boiled sprouts and peas
Carrots, done with sugar and butter under a cartouche- not actually sure what you call that way of cooking.
Bread sauce and gravy.
Would do cranberry sauce but no one eats it!

Then for pud, Christmas Pud or Yule Log - usually eaten after the Queen’s Speech as we’re too full before it! I aim for lunch at 1pm, usually on the table for quarter past, no else allowed in the kitchen for the last 15 minutes.

twitchwitch · 24/10/2021 23:22

@youvegottenminuteslynn

I'm a non Christmassy person and last year had THE best Christmas ever because I had a delicious spaghetti bolognese using my favourite recipe. I know, I know - sacrilege on here but after years of battling PTSD for various reasons during Christmas time my counsellor suggested a me day and I bloody loved it! Favourite films and shows, favourite music, favourite meal, longest bath ever and no triggers. GLORIOUS it was!
Well done you for reclaiming Christmas! Spag bol is a fine choice: my friend has lasagne every year.

Then French apple tart and custard for pud, choc cheesecake as an alternative.

Hetyanni · 25/10/2021 07:36

Interesting to see how few people to do peas.

I'm anti-yorkshire with Christmas Dinner but my kids love them so this year might be a first.

OP posts:
StTherese · 25/10/2021 07:38

Squirrelblanket · 25/10/2021 07:39

I'm recently vegan. And I'm wheat intolerant.

We're having
Pork for DH & DD
Pigs in blankets
Nut roast (not sure which yet - bought or made - I'm trying some out)
Roast potatoes
Stuffing for DH
Lemon & mustard roasted parsnips
Sprouts
Roasted squash/pumpkin
Carrots
Cranberry sauce
Gravy
Veggie gravy for me

I'm in favour of peas with Christmas dinner. We'll probably have them too.

Montii · 25/10/2021 09:08

Everything served cold.

Glazed ham
Roast chicken
Prawns
Other seafood like crab and Moreton bay bugs
Green salad
Roast veggie and cous cous salad
Potato salad
Bread rolls

Desserts would be
Pavlova
Trifle
Rum balls/white Christmas/biscuits

(In Australia so it’s likely to be 30+ degrees on Christmas Day)
