Standing in for @Reastie as thread 10 was filling up quickly...

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link or the last word next to the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

Some top tips from thelegohooverer:

My tips are:
check out companies on trustpilot before ordering
be wary of companies that only have email/contact firms for customer services and no phone numbers or addresses (unless of course you enjoy meaningless replies from bots)
keep a list of what you’ve ordered so you can follow up if something doesn’t arrive. Sometimes it’s a numbers game where they’re betting on people not following up on missing orders.
check where things are shipped from, particularly if you need them quickly. I’ve got caught out waiting for the slow boat from China when I thought I was ordering locally.
I’ve started using Revolut to avoid putting in my main bank details (and it helps me budget)

Aliexpress have lots of stuff very cheap, order early as it’s all delivered from Chinahere. Be aware some items are a bit knock off in quality and safety, check reviews and be aware. Clothes can come up v small and take the photos with a pinch of salt as a guide for what you will receive.

Yes, I may be interested in a soda stream as a sharing present for the teens. Any syrups any good- they like Pepsi Max and Fanta.

XiCi · 12/10/2021 10:49

@Minionbums

Ohh soda stream seems like a good idea for My DH…. Has anyone got any advice on the best price? The threads are speeding past too quickly to keep up!!! (I’ve resisted an F bag for myself you horrible hoard of tempstresses!)
According to camelcamelcamel the soda streams quite often go down to £39.99. Its around the £65 mark on Amazon atm so I've set an alert and am hoping for a black Friday deal

Beautiful Spode Christmas Tree range at TKMaxx/Homesense today. Soup plates £4.99, Cereal Bowls £3.99, Side plates £3.49 and this lovely dual dish for £12.99. They also had pie dishes and serving dishes.

Lego Luigi Starter course and t-shirt bundle £39.99 at IWOOT.

Seems to be £45-£50 elsewhere for just the Lego. Comes in size 3-12 years.

I also have an argos code for £10 off £75 spend to be used by 17th Oct, I won't be using if anyone wants it.

Athlebad · 12/10/2021 11:01

If anyone is looking for a family travel bargain (Christmas shopping? panto?), there are advanced-purchase, family group train tickets available where up to 2 adults and up to 3 kids can travel together for one low price (can't use a railcard on top of the deal) including during peak morning times e.g. Bristol - London £39 one way for everyone.

From what I can work out (and there's no info available on this, it seems like a really covert deal), it's only available if you search and book through the National Rail website. Also, not sure which train operators it can be used with. Worth taking a look if you're planning a train journey in the next few months...

Sorry to be a pain - could someone remind me what the Black Friday deal was last year for the Ancestry DNA kits please? Or advise of the best time to buy as a gift for someone. Thank you!

Athlebad · 12/10/2021 11:08
@EveLe thank you .
Is slightly under the weight better than over ?
He is a very slight 17 year old .
(Ha ha very slight ..who am I kidding ! 2nd percentile all his life !)
Think this would be a good one to start off with at a good price .
I've just weighed the weighted blanked I bought for my son and it's only about 6% of my body weight, but I think it seems pretty heavy to sleep under (I'm also very slight). So I'd recommend going under weight rather than over...

PoirotAndHisMoustache · 12/10/2021 11:10

Oh @MissingMo which shop was that? At least which part of the country? Smile

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 12/10/2021 11:13

@WhereTheresAHill they went down to £49

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 12/10/2021 11:14

But you could also get a free £10 to spend on prime day when you spent £10 so that brought mine down to £39

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 12/10/2021 11:16

@poirotandhismoustache I saw the Spode plates etc in TK Maxx in York last week if that's helpful at all. From what I can gather they have them in quite a few of their stores.

I keep missing the Argos codes :'(

Smileatthesmallthings · 12/10/2021 11:51

Wasn't going to buy a bag and then I bought two. I'm definitely a shopping addicted time waster.

(One is for me and one to replace the one I bought my grandma years ago that I noticed is wearing thin now!)

EveLe · 12/10/2021 11:54

@bizzey Not sure what the official advice is, but personally I’d go under rather than over to start.

DS loves his but tried sleeping with it and found it too heavy (he’s also low weight, currently below the 1st centile) It’s around 9% for him, and while he loves to use it to chill, he can’t cope with it overnight, he finds it too restrictive while he sleeps and gets too hot.

But, during the daytime he loves it, and it really helps calm him.

PoirotAndHisMoustache · 12/10/2021 12:01

@Haveyoubrushedyourteeth thank you!

sorryiasked · 12/10/2021 12:02

ecookshop are good for Christmas tableware and baubles, mostly 50% off including Spode, Sarah Miller etc

RevolvingPivot · 12/10/2021 12:05

I've recently ordered from Argos, The Works, Newlook and Claire's and I've just seen codes on here.

I'm not working now either 😣😣
