Standing in for @Reastie as thread 10 was filling up quickly...

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link or the last word next to the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

Some top tips from thelegohooverer:

My tips are:
check out companies on trustpilot before ordering
be wary of companies that only have email/contact firms for customer services and no phone numbers or addresses (unless of course you enjoy meaningless replies from bots)
keep a list of what you’ve ordered so you can follow up if something doesn’t arrive. Sometimes it’s a numbers game where they’re betting on people not following up on missing orders.
check where things are shipped from, particularly if you need them quickly. I’ve got caught out waiting for the slow boat from China when I thought I was ordering locally.
I’ve started using Revolut to avoid putting in my main bank details (and it helps me budget)

Aliexpress have lots of stuff very cheap, order early as it’s all delivered from Chinahere. Be aware some items are a bit knock off in quality and safety, check reviews and be aware. Clothes can come up v small and take the photos with a pinch of salt as a guide for what you will receive.

@TuftyMarmoset

I bought this hairdryer earlier this year www.boots.com/babyliss-salon-pro-2200-hairdryer-10253476 It’s £27.99 and it seems good enough to me but I’m not exactly a hair connoisseur. I’ve only used it a few times because after 5 years without one I got out of the habit of using a hairdryer but I can confirm it does indeed dry hair Grin It also comes with quite a big diffuser which was a plus point for me.
😂😂 this made me laugh! I guess its always good when a hair dryer drys hair!

@Billyandemily the t&cs say that under 18s are not eligible. Did you book for kids?

I saw on the fbook page some people were using individual email addresses but I'm not sure if it'll be allowed.
@Delahot, I was also looking at resin kits for my 9yo but having a rethink after the post that it may not be safe for young ones. Have you seen the Gemex kits? They are not hugely dissimilar in terms of making fun beads and jewellery and may be more suited to their age.
Resin is a chemical, my daughter is 9 and I would not let her use it without my complete supervision.

Gemex is an unsafe product. It is UV resin marketed towards children and should not be allowed, but that's just my opinion.

@EllenLRipley

DD wants white Air force 1's, she's a larger 6, so can wear the biggest of the child's sizes which saves a lot...... if only I can find them anywhere. Let me know if you spot them :)
Just keep checking the nike website they do come back in quite regularly I had to do that with my daughters recently@EllenLRipley
Seedlipvshendricks · 11/10/2021 16:24

I’ve only found Ovtonauts toys on Facebook marketplace and handed down from a neighbour. I don’t think many new ones are available. They are pretty durable given the bashing they get here!

@Delahot

Also, any ideas for small cheap gifts for 5x 11 year olds coming for a birthday party just before Christmas instead of a party bag. X
My dd is 12. She likes a bath bomb, keyrings, stationary, small jewellery bits from primark. She's asked for a pop socket for her phone, inear headphone buds (I bought some cheap ones from amazon 6 pairs for £8ish).

I usually make up crackers with little bits for my dds little gifts. You can usually buy in the poundshop, I carefully open and replace the contents! Might be fun for party! Im doing this for my 9 year olds party with fidget toys inside.

@Woahbodyforrrrm

I cannot believe that I am so late to the party...thread 11 already! Many thanks again reastie 🤶🏼

I am just about to begin my bargain hunting so will hopefully have something to contribute soon.

Has anyone got a student discount code they would mind me using? My mum is finally able to travel to Sweden to see my brother and his fiancée who had my first niece earlier this year. His fiancée loves makeup so I'd like to treat her to something nice as it's her 40th next month. I'd like my mum to take it over this week as the Swedish post is dreadful and our gifts often don't arrive 😞. I've signed up for the email subscription but the code hasn't materialised and my mum travels on Thursday so I'm running out of time. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it 💐!

Welcome to the party 🥳 Can't help as not a student either but doesn't look like you've said where you actually want a discount code for 🤔

@Howarewenotthereyet
I bought those exact hoodie blankets from online home shop. Not seen a real oodie to compare them to, but they are really thick and soft. They are for my kids (large 12 yr olds) for Xmas so can’t say how they wash etc but am planning to get one for myself.

Silversun83 · 11/10/2021 16:35

@Alicesays They do have quite a lot of Octonauts toys on Amazon with next day delivery.

We have the 8-characters set, which is £17. Not too bad a price compared to similar TV-associated figures.

Minionbums · 11/10/2021 16:41

Bought some Spode Christmas Tree patterned plates in TK Maxx today. I’m completely obsessed now and want more Blush. Thought they’d be lovely to put Father Christmas’s mince pie on!

DoucheCanoe · 11/10/2021 16:42

@Howarewenotthereyet, I've bought 4 of those in different colours this year.

They're presents so i've tried it on and washed (bit of a compulsion!) - they're lovely and snuggly. I'm 5"3, size 16/18 and there's loads of space!

Tempted to get another one for myself Grin

SpamIAm · 11/10/2021 16:42

Had a mostly successful trip to M&S today. Just couldn't get any of the light up biscuit tins (but got tea which will do).

Their flavoured Irish liqueurs were reduced to £8 (not sure if it's all of them or just the vegan ones - bought a coconut and chocolate which I didn't realise was vegan until I got home).

Athlebad · 11/10/2021 16:42

This is a place to post about bargain finds that would be good as Christmas pressies for kids, is that right? It's all about Lego in our house, so these are my finds:

B&M have got some Lego Vidiyo stuff in at nearly half price (eg Candy Castle reduced to £12.99 - it retails elsewhere for around £24). The website shows the correct sale price, but (at my local store at least) the shelf mark was more expensive. Scanned through at the cheap price at the till though...

Also, Smyths have got some really reduced lego stuff in certain stores - look at their website to see if it's in stock at your local store (not available for delivery).

@Woahbodyforrrrm I can help with student codes if you let me know where you want it for Smile

WhyDoesItAlways · 11/10/2021 17:09

£20 off velvetiser with code XMAS814 at hotel Chocolat

dramalamma · 11/10/2021 17:12

@badmarciathemarsha thank you so much for the SHO code - works a treat! Just bought some lovely tumblers for hard to buy for family. For anyone else GOLD40 gives 40% off at shoreusable.com

WhyDoesItAlways · 11/10/2021 17:17

@Howarewenotthereyet I bought an online home shop hoodie through Amazon last winter for WFH and I'm pleased with the quality but haven't seen an oodie brand one in the flesh to compare. It's double lined, very warm and roomy and washes well. Excellent value for the price. Worth checking Amazon too as might be cheaper when you take into account delivery costs.

FilthyforFirth · 11/10/2021 17:22

Thank you so much to whoever posted the National Lotto deal. Just got tickets to Kew Garden for next year for MIL and her partner for £14! Brilliant deal!

@Woahbodyforrrrm where do you need discount for?
toffeeshock · 11/10/2021 17:32

Interested in hearing more about the safety of Gemex because that’s on my DD’s list and is aimed at her age.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 11/10/2021 17:52

@minionbums you're a star! I spotted the Spode crockery in TK Maxx today too, but didn't buy it as I couldn't justify- we've already got a Christmas dinner service plus a dinner party dinner service too. But we don't have a nice little set for cake and mince pies for Santa, something I will rectify in my lunch break tomorrow and as its my birthday then too I shall feel no shame Smile

FluffyFluffMonster · 11/10/2021 17:53

@Woahbodyforrrrm I have this if it's any good!

IggyAce · 11/10/2021 17:56

@Alicesays

Has anyone seen any Octonauts toys anywhere in real life? My DD is obsessed with them and I can only find extortionate shipped from China stuff which I am not sure will arrive.
That’s just reminded me of the year the octonaut soft toys paid for Christmas. We found the two girl characters in makro and put them on EBay well people went wild bidding as they were difficult to get hold of. We sourced several of them and they went for around £20 to £30 each. If I get the chance I will see if we have any of the mini characters tucked away in a toy box and I’ll happily send them to you.
