Harry potter gift ideas wanted

ADreadedSunnyDay · 22/09/2021 18:01

DS (8) is harry potter mad this year and I'm looking to capitalise on this for his presents. Any ideas of cool or unusual Hogwards / Harry Potter themed gifts? I had half thought of buying a small trunk and filling it with gifts but then saw the price of them (and the disclaimer that they weren't very strong).

So we have all the books, DVDs, the snitch toy from Aldi (a bit rubbish), Voldemort's wand and robe, plus HP robes, we've tried bertie botts every flavour beans (truly vile), HP scrabble ... any other ideas?? Oh yes and DS has lots of HP lego (Hagrid's hut is on the list as we haven't got that)

The HP double is good and you can also get HP playing cards.

Have a look at primark. They do all sorts of stationary and key rings, socks etc.

My ds has a HP fleece blanket from Amazon and slippers and they've lasted well.

@AliceMcK

Lots of HP stuff will be popping up everywhere. My 7yo wants an invisibility cloak this year. I’ve also got her and my 9yo the following hp bits: From Aldi - HP box, Tom Riddle diary and wand, HP colouring sheets, talking Dobby. From Primark - HP house pens, notebooks, headbands, lip balms, compact mirror. From Wish - HP tshirts, quill set. I’ve also got my dd a signed picture of Hermione from Amazon.

Other things we have, HP trivial pursuit, my DDs love it. HP board game, top trumps, lots of notepads, pens, books, we have ones on spells, wands, marauders map, wands, dolls, soft toys, bedding, cushions and lots of Lego sets.

The invisibility cloak is in the Tesco toy sale £16.. starts the 29th September. My daughter has asked for one too! Smile

My DD is also HP mad and the following have gone down VERY well -

Any HP Lego
Clothing from M&S/Primark
Totally second the primark recommendation in general - she has ASD and loves soft things - primark do some fab HP blankets which she loves. They also do really good HP insulated metal water bottles (also available online).
HP wall stickers - there are some great ones with quotes from the book available online
HP Christmas bedding - ASDA normally do some great stuff.

Would also second the recommendation for Warner Bros - it's expensive but worth every penny (we are v lucky as it's only 20 mins away). Not sure where you are in Scotland but Alnwick Castle might be an easier option for you if on the East side - only downside is that it is closed in the winter but it has lots of HP themed stuff (first film was shot there, including the broomstick lessons), including butter beer in the shop. One of the pubs in town has just opened three HP themed rooms - can't remember its name but it will come up if you google Dirty Bottles Alnwick.

And my daughter's most prized possession is her Hogwarts Acceptance letter but we left that until she was 12.

Have fun!

Dunelm have House bedding etc if they have a strong allegiance.

B&M have bits in their gift section (got some nice House pens the other day)

The Works usually has stationery.

Stuffthisstuff · 22/09/2021 21:48

I got trays from eBay to make chocolate frogs and some foil there too for wrapping. When we'd been in Florida, a lovely woman at the Honeydukes shop gave us lots of their sweet bags and I filled those with rip offs rather than the full price stuff!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/09/2021 21:50

amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PBCTBF6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RF033PK95HZXA52J1RKD K-blings]] could be quite fun. You can put them on cables but also shoelaces etc.

I've definitely seen them cheaper than that though!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/09/2021 21:53

Working link.

LadyofMisrule · 22/09/2021 22:09

I got mine a chest a bit like this.

www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/wooden-storage-chest-dark-light-wood-bm

I put in a handmade paper notebook for spells (Oxfam); a quill and a sealing wax set; some interesting glass bottles with squash in that I labelled as potions (Wilkos); a time turner necklace.

alexio · 22/09/2021 22:22

May sound off topic but an Amazon Alexa there is a Harry Potter daily quiz on that and other HP things. And it can also be used for loads of other things

Nuffaluff · 22/09/2021 22:31

There is a Harry Potter shop in Stratford-upon-Avon and they sell online too.

Nuffaluff · 22/09/2021 22:33

My DS got a potion bottle from there. You hold it in your hand and the potion magically bubbles up.

Amandasummers · 22/09/2021 22:38

Ooh I have a Harry Potter wand remote control for my tv 😃 you swish it sideways and up and down and do different things with it to control volume/channel etc.

Absolute backache to set up though

bigbaggyeyes · 22/09/2021 22:40

You can get a Harry Potter Oodie

You could take him to Pembrokeshire to visit Dobbies Grave. I took my dd there this year and she loved it. It's also in a really nice part of Wales

We use to do this but we went through all the questions 😆 it can get very annoying at times though when you give it the right answer only to tell you you’ve selected the wrong one because it dosnt listen.
AliceMcK · 22/09/2021 22:48

Thanks @yourfavouritemuggle I’ve already got it. I’m very organised when it comes to Christmas 😂

Honeyroar · 22/09/2021 22:48

The cluedo game got lots of use at our house too.
The studio tour is amazing if you can get there (we got a deal with a hotel, or you could stay in London and get the special HP bus in). My stepson still has the box from his first chocolate frog saved in his collection (he’s now 24!). He has had a different wand for Xmas for the last 12 years, doesn’t seem to be bored of them yet!)

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/09/2021 23:02

Another one who made a writing set. I bought some parchment paper, an older fashioned looking notebook, some quills and ink. Added a marauders map, a spell book, some
Potter style glasses ...

They loved it

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 23/09/2021 07:29

For a more expensive gift you can book the Harry Potter carriages on the train used for the Hogwarts Express in Fort William and do part of the journey to Hogwarts, not managed to do it ourselves yet but Dd would have loved it at 8, covid ruined those plans.

Mercedes519 · 23/09/2021 07:35

Second the Dunelm glow in the dark bedding - it really does glow! DD uses her phone torch before bed to charge it up Grin

HungryHippo11 · 23/09/2021 08:19

No idea from me but I just wanted to say that I love how Harry Potter is still so popular 25 years later, that there is new merchandise and stuff every year and a new generation of fans. If any series deserves it, its these books

PhantomErik · 23/09/2021 09:00

I have 2 Harry Potter fans here & they have & love:

Lego sets!!!
3d puzzles
Duvet sets
Hedwig/Harry cushion
Sweatshirt
T-shirt
Pyjamas
Socks
Scarf
Wands
Dressing up clothes
Rucksack/lunch bag
Posters
Wand/snitch keyring
Hedwig hot water bottle
Snitch fidget spinner
Notebooks & pens
Audio books 1 - 4 on cd
Dolls (barbie sized - DD loves these, DS not so much)

Also our local bird sanctuary has a snowy owl which we're thinking of adopting this year.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 23/09/2021 09:09

The already mentioned Talking Sorting Hat is fabulous. I saw it in Smyths and I think it was about £30.
House reveal bath bombs were in Boots last year and they were really good fun. Hopefully they have similar this year.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 23/09/2021 09:22

Thanks everyone - there are some great ideas on here. I've just bought some refillable advent calendar boxes from Amazon and plan to fill with small HP stuff and a couple of bags of the HP mini-figure lego. Am toying with going to Alnwick at easter next year too. But now off to look at the talking hat (when I should be working!!)

AppleKatie · 23/09/2021 12:02

Alnwick is a great day out we did recently and it was loads of fun.

FearlessSwiftie · 23/09/2021 13:08

HP obsessions really makes gifting easy Grin
There are Hogwarts blankets- www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Blankets-Throws/s?k=Harry+Potter+Blankets+and+Throws&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
or you can look for the ones that have Gryffindor symbols (or whetever House he's into) and there are some with a Marauders Map, too.
You can make a calendar with photos of main characters or movie posters, here is a guide on that. There are also HP coloring books with movie scenes but I haven't seen them for a while, though I think they are still being in stock. Posters might be a good option, just pick some of the most beautiful scenes and print them out or make a photo collage with main charachter's pictures or Hogwarts views and frame it.
Figures could also be a good idea, too, but it can be dangerous as you DS may want to start a collection Grin - www.amazon.com/harry-potter-figurine/s?k=harry+potter+figurine&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
