I've been looking for one but can't find one.

OP posts:

Marking my place 🎄

fretnot · 17/09/2021 16:57

I’m in too, please! Need a bit of ponce in my christmas this year. I want to have beauteous flowers, a little christmas tree by the front door, bountiful amounts of German biscuits and mulled drinks available AT ALL TIMES. I’ve been sitting on my hands and resisting the urge to get cracking on all kinds of stuff.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2021 19:15

Ooh, yes! I'm waiting for this.

I do think it deserves a brand new, sparkling, thread of its own though! Xmas Grin

NewPoncingName · 17/09/2021 20:48

I ponced a little last year but ran out of time, so filled my ponce quota vicariously through these threads. This year I'm determined. Nige bought, gifts nearly done, Bakedin mocha Swiss roll ready to turn into a gourmet Yule log (with my preschooler - potential conflict there), on the lookout for bulbs for forcing - bring on the ponce-prepping thread! 😁

Thisisbatshit · 17/09/2021 21:06

I too am counting down to this thread. My favorite of the year!!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 17/09/2021 21:07

I'm having a practice ponce for autumn - I've put wild rose boughs hung with rosehips across the mantel, with candles, little pumpkins, pinecones and conkers, and a garland of (fake) autumn leaves on the mirror. It's handy to be able to test a few ideas out without anyone realising what I'm doing Grin

VivaJen · 17/09/2021 21:43

@NoWordForFluffy I think we should class this as the pre-ponce thread and then there will be the official one at the traditional time 🎄

NoWordForFluffy · 17/09/2021 21:45
Xmas Grin
Trumpton · 18/09/2021 08:13

@BigGreen
When do you want your bulbs to flower ?
If they are Paperwhite Narcissus then hold fire!
They are fast!
I generally start mine 11 November.
Apologies if you are using slower bulbs or want them earlier.

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 18/09/2021 08:20

Right. That’s it. This will be my first attempt at paperwhites.
Trumpton please let us “grow along” on the Poncetastic thread. From memory - buy bulbs, plant them, put them in dark, in light, in vodka. Gin

FiloFaxx · 18/09/2021 08:23

I love reading this thread but all my poncing ends up being in my head 🙈

Trumpton · 18/09/2021 09:44

I hope nobody minds but I asked Mumsnet Towers to add Poncetastic 2021 to the title. Let’s run with this one rather than a new thread next week.
@OnTheHillNotOverIt
Yes, we can certainly have a narcissist (ha!) grow along. Yes you have the basics right. Xmas Grin
I have ordered my bulbs from Sarah Raven. They were lovely last year.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/09/2021 09:56

It's too early though! Poncetastic starts on 25 September! A new thread would be more in line with the tradition. Xmas Grin

VivaJen · 18/09/2021 10:56

I'm with @NoWordForFluffy on this, there has been some slight variation over the years, a couple of years it has started on 24th, one year it was the 26th but on the whole Poncing commences on the 25th of September.

Trumpton · 18/09/2021 11:15

Let’s start a new thread on the 24th then and link from here.

Katiebee008 · 18/09/2021 11:24

Here and ready to start ponceing in a week!

VivaJen · 18/09/2021 11:29

@Trumpton

Let’s start a new thread on the 24th then and link from here.
Sounds good 🎄🎄🎄
Wolfcub · 18/09/2021 11:30

I've already booked a wreath Making workshop, I definitely think I need some ponce this year as I'm not sure we will be having a Christmas tree

Bobbobbobbing · 18/09/2021 11:36

Signing in ready for the official start on the 25th. I have a massive selection of christmas magazines and books (including Nigel) at the ready. DD has the artistic ability I lack and has agreed to help.

I normally have grand plans which never come off due to work pressure so last year I planned ahead and booked regular days off for this autumn so I can ponce away.

FlatteredFool · 18/09/2021 13:15

I've just been reminded thanks to @Trumpton to plant my regular narcissus very soon as they weren't ready last year. Mum wants paper whites this year and I've told her that remembrance Sunday is the time for those.

FireworkParrot · 18/09/2021 14:03

Hellooo, eagerly awaiting the official thread. I had a lovely time re-reading the 2020 thread (I was on there under a different name last year.) I'm afraid I have been too quick on the poncing as started soaking fruit for Christmas cake yesterday!

NoWordForFluffy · 18/09/2021 14:08

I've already made 3 separate batches of mincemeat, Firework! And my sausage rolls.

elQuintoConyo · 18/09/2021 15:08

ElQuintoConyo checking in Xmas Grin

I've got to start embroidering Christmas decorations before work kicks off...

Cake making starts next week, I'm going to make mine along with a Spanish friend who's intrigued! She was shocked at the ingredients list but cracked a buge grin at the amount of brandy used.

I need to decide on the design of my Christmas cards and set aside a day to make them (only around 15, to send abroad mostly).

I've just been going through my Christmas folder of recipes, present lists, things to do, joys and mistakes of Christmases past. I'm feeling very warm and fuzzy.

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 18/09/2021 15:23

I already have my first 2 Christmas magazines so I’m ready to go 🎄🎁🎅🏻
DH was with me so couldn’t get any more

NotTheMrMenAgain · 18/09/2021 15:26

Yay! It's never to early to ponce, surely? Last year was nice but a bit of an emotional, low key affair - getting DM through first Christmas since DF's death and four months after my marriage exploded. Infinitely happier place this year and I'm determined to ponce the shit out of it!

I've a stockpile of decorations to embroider, pom-pom garlands to finish (started a couple of years back) and since the Halloween felt garland turned out so well, I'm going to make some Christmassy ones.

Have already made damson and orange gin and brandy. Want to get real foliage into the decs this year - fancy holly on the mantle and a proper Yule log (for burning, not eating) - will use it as a table centre with candles, before it's burnt.

I keep reading about the Nigel Slater book - it sounds interesting but is it mostly a cook book? I love reading about Christmas traditions and enjoy crafting but I'm not so much into the long-winded cookery. Is it worth buying anyhow?
