Although I have two very little boys so no idea what 9 year olds like! I just have an older brother that would love that he's 42

NoWordForFluffy · 27/08/2021 18:35

I have a £5 off £40 Argos voucher. PM me if you'd like it!

nickdrakeslovechild · 27/08/2021 18:36

@Petal7

I've also had several orders from Typo no problem. Hopefully yours will be with you soon

Wondering if I can pick your brains, please...

Anyone got any experience of a lovely book of positive quotes/affirmations for an early teen? Mine is having a bit of a wobble and I really want to boost her confidence.

Also, my middle football mad DD loves her ps4, but only has Fifa 20 and 21 (which she loves!). Any ideas for other good games? Or other football games?

Finally, my youngest is animal crazy, but I'm not sure I can cope with too many more soft toys! She's got a National Geographic Kids subscription, loads of animal books etc. Any other ideas or things that have been hits with your children , please? I did wonder about an animal experience, but so tricky with Covid.

Huge thanks!

I can highly recommend The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy. Beautiful book with lovely words and pictures.

Extra £10 off sale lego at Zavvi for the next 3 hours in their flash sale. The code is displayed on the site but it's LEGO10.

CasparBloomberg · 27/08/2021 18:52

@DoucheCanoe she's had them about 2 months. I've just double checked with her and no problems, no sound dropping out, and feel comfortable. She also says they have 3 different sizes of earbud rubber grommet things (do those things have a proper name?) with them so can swap to the most comfortable ones.

CasparBloomberg · 27/08/2021 18:57

@Petal7 I don't know if too old but I have been pondering The Comfort Book by Matt Haig for my slightly older teen.
I follow him on twitter where he posts some of the pages and they seem lovely, but might not be the right thing, more like a page a day to ponder than a full read. There are currently signed copies available on Waterstones website too if its of interest.

ItsAllBlahBlahBlah · 27/08/2021 18:59

Thanks @NoWordForFluffy!

PhantomErik · 27/08/2021 19:06

Thank you all so much for your suggestions.

@DoucheCanoe - a Jigsaw could be a good call. As could a framed photo of animals/pets! Thank you.

@WisestIsShe - Schleich is a good idea too, thanks.

@queenoftheglee - will investigate PES, thank you.

@nickdrakeslovechild - that is such a lovely book. V well loved in this house, thanks.

@CasparBloomberg - sounds very interesting. Will have a look. Thank you.

Hope I haven't missed anyone out. Really appreciate your suggestions.
@Petal7 for your teen, “The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse” is a beautifully uplifting book.
Second this was coming on to day this book.

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 27/08/2021 19:27

@Petal7 I've got my 12 year old the Marcus Rashford book. It's not a football book, I've had a flick through and it looks great for confidence boosting and reassuring them about things.

Petal7 · 27/08/2021 19:45

@AdamBarlowsQuiff, funnily enough, that's on my list for my football mad 11 year old! Am sure she'll share with her big sis.
Thank you.

WayneBruce · 27/08/2021 19:53

Ive bulked out with a movie night hamper, popcorn, sweets etc. And those massive oreo boxes that are about 3 foot long.

LionMummyRoar · 27/08/2021 20:00

My first thread title!
Thank you @Reastie and for doing this year after year- it has got me through some lean times for sure.

Went shopping IRL this afternoon and the joules sale had some lovely kids shoes and wellies for £10 that weren't shown online.
Also picked up some Yoto cards- they started selling them in WHSmiths (today according to the staff). No cheaper than online, but no delivery cost.

I was introduced to the little nutkins website on this thread last year- it's a lovely independent online shop with lovely wooden toys and organic kids clothes. Not hugely bargainous, but SCORCHER gets you 10% off this weekend and they do have some nice bits on sale.

Claire Balding's book 'fall off get back on keep going' comes highly recommended by my eleven year old who's been having a wobble with moving up to secondary.

Number109 · 27/08/2021 20:28

@Bed123 thank you, I’ve ordered this for my eldest who loves kinetic sand so sparkly pink sand will be popular!

Restlessinthenorth · 27/08/2021 20:29

@Petal7 there is a lovely book by Nikki LIlly called Come on Life, which may well be perfect for your daughter. My tween has loved it

saharadry · 27/08/2021 20:32

@Number109 it's come in the usual style brown box! However it says on the box what it is.
