I was thinking earlier, surely it's time some of these hit the shops (especially the GH Get Ahead one). Has anybody been looking / happened upon any yet?

I can't stop myself buying them, even when I tell myself I won't!

Agree, I like to read the hard copy with a cuppa, snuggled on a cosy sofa. Log fire and Christmas music.

Wish I could just move into the gorgeous little cottage from The Holiday and I'd be in heaven 😆

Disappointing lack of any Christmas magazines (other than crafty ones) in Asda Falkirk just now. I shall try Smiths at home tomorrow.

@NoWordForFluffy

Some sleuthing has led me to discover that Simply Christmas is out on 16.09 and Ideal Home on 23.09.

I will keep looking for others!

How exciting! 2 dates for the diary.

Think everyone will be going large this year!

Bobbobbobbing · 28/08/2021 13:26

Ooooh exciting! I have a huge collection of Christmas magazines and love adding to them each year.

I was disappointed that the Country Living special the other year was just a rehash of old articles- nothing new at all.

Sisisimone · 28/08/2021 14:14

For anyone buying the Christmas Radio Times, buysubscriptions currently have 12 issues for £1 which you can set to start at any time so can include the Xmas issue.

MrsEWeatherwax · 28/08/2021 15:28

I bought the BBC good food handmade Christmas today. I’m so excited Blush

mbosnz · 28/08/2021 17:40

Woohoo! BBC good food handmade Christmas today! Got home to show my exciting acquisition to the daughters', and their response? IT'S AUGUST. Well, exactly, there's no time to be lost! It's Christmas Battle stations, everybody!

NoWordForFluffy · 30/08/2021 18:46

I've made the jewelled mincemeat from the Good Food magazine today!

BaconAndAvocado · 31/08/2021 07:10

NoWordForFluffy very impressive!

What’s it like?

NoWordForFluffy · 31/08/2021 07:28

Really nice! It has dried tropical fruit in and cranberries, so it's a bit different! I used dark rum which seemed to fit the fruit well.

We got 4 large jars of it to go with the many jars we already have.

NoWordForFluffy that sounds delectable!

My usual output is the Christmas cake and various other baked goods so I’d like to expand a bit this year for the Post Covid Christmas to end all Christmases.

Homemade mincemeat might be the way to go.

My German sister-in-law makes an alcoholic concoction called a rumtopf, which I think is lots of fruit steeped in alcohol over a few months. I might make one for DH.

labazslovesliving · 31/08/2021 08:28

Talking of which starting now to put Christmas craft supplies, patterns, used magazines etc on Etsy and eBay now. If people like to make things for gifts or decorating then they need a decent amount of time to do them. For this reason, i tend to leave listenings after Christmas for a month or two as lots start the next year's crafts right after Christmas.

BaconAndAvocado · 07/09/2021 10:24

Got my GoodFood Homemade Christmas mag!!!!!!!!

New pup is currently sleeping on my toes so I'm getting stuck in

Redsquirrel5 · 07/09/2021 10:50

Just found this thread. So it isn’t just me then!
I often keep the Christmas ones but can’t resist a few new ones. I have just decluttered some old ones but ripped out the most interesting bits first. I put them in an A4 box( I have a few for recipes, gardening, crafts) and usually go through it but can’t resist buying a couple. Nothing like a big mug of tea and sitting with a Christmas mag. I also get the Booths book because we live near one- well about 20 miles away.

Love Good Housekeeping and Country Living so interested in what you are buying.

For those making can I recommend Delia’s Christmas chutney. I have looked at it before but never made it until last year oh my goodness it was fantastic with the cold meats. I am going to make some for gifts this year.

Rumtof is layers of fruit - strawberries, raspberries etc I haven’t made it but often considered it and I have a big kilnerjar so might do it this year.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2021 07:36

I ordered Home Style Christmas to be delivered to me, but I'm not sure when it's coming!

I tend to pop into town to do a top up shop on a Friday, so I'll check next week for more Christmas magazines!

Ooh, the Good Housekeeping Christmas bundle is back.

6 issues, a baking recipe book, the Christmas edition plus a festive supplement for £22.50.

Saw one in Asda the other day, it was £12.99!!!!!

Yes a magazine not a book.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2021 08:11

Bloody hell. No, thanks!

There's a 6m Country Living subscription for £15 (was listed on the bargains thread) which comes with calendar/diary/Christmas special/Christmas supplement.

Gatekeeper · 09/09/2021 20:33

The Christmas edition of Country Living has been very disappointing the last two years as it just has rehashed articles from previous years

Gatekeeper · 09/09/2021 20:34

I've got Nigel Slaters Christmas chronicles book and I'm going to start reading 1st December

FoolShapeHeart · 09/09/2021 21:07

@Gatekeeper there's a read-along thread being created, but it starts much earlier - October I think?
mbosnz · 10/09/2021 13:12

I buy the bleeding lot! Keeps me sane as the days get shorter, the nights get longer, and the weather (if at all possible) gets wetter and colder. . .
