Will put mine up 23rd or 24th Dec.

Trees should NOT be up before 1st Dec by any stretch of the imagination.

It's going up the day after St. Andrew's Day!

Leander · 14/11/2007 15:57

please do not put your tree up tonight.

HairyIrene · 14/11/2007 15:57

yeh but yeh but yeh
we go away every christmas imaginewittyname..so we'd never do it as family then!
well unless they let us on the train...
mmm could whittle away the hours on gner arranging decs
yeh maybe i will

Wisteria · 14/11/2007 15:58

last weekend before Christmas, personally I like to decorate the tree on Christmas Eve but I usually get overruled on this, it is really special doing it then though - try it!

We always have a real tree and they're rubbish if you put them up too early IMO.

Weekend before Christmas. Any earlier and you stop noticing them and it stops being Christmas when Christmas comes around, IYKWIM

HairyIrene · 14/11/2007 16:03

lol
but expat
do you really expect any non scots most folks here to know when that is?

portonovo · 14/11/2007 16:04

I hate decorations being up too early. We never put ours up until the children have all finished school, so this year will be on or after 20th December.

I just think it spoils it if trees or decorations are up too early, it ruins the special feeling of the actual Christmas period.

beansontoast · 14/11/2007 16:06

dec first

but not this year as have christening to host...so day or so later.

trees around here cost a bomb...i want my moneys worth of lights and fragrance etc

imaginewittynamehere · 14/11/2007 16:06

I know when St Andrew's day is (&I'm not scottish)

Start of Dec is to early though expat - you lose the magic of christmas when they are up for over a month

imaginewittynamehere · 14/11/2007 16:08

lo @ tree on train - thinl you should do it Haryirene.

TBH if we aren't home for christmas I don't actually do a tree..

ImdreamingofaGROUCHYxmas · 14/11/2007 16:09

DH insists that we only trim up on the evening of 24th December. He wants to keep it as a family tradition

Lazarou · 14/11/2007 16:10

Ive just put some decorations up and i really really really want to put the tree up but dh thinks it is too early and the kids will be forever pulling it down. However, this may stop them pulling the plug socket guards out and sticking their fingers in them. They have just started doing this, as well as pushing the sofa round the room on my new floor, then going over to the computer and banging on the keyboard while lauging insanely.

ANyway, i digress. I have put a wreath on the door and a sort of fir coney glittering hanging thing outside on my shed. I love christmas, me

QueenBhannae · 14/11/2007 16:17

Oh I know its wrong to put them up now but got caught up in the moment!
Don't worry-they are still in the boxes for now
Will hold out til the 1st Dec
Will be having three trees this year so might do it in stages?
Artificial 8footer then dd has her awful pink marabou feather onethen get a massive real one just before.
I do take them down boxing day though!

Tree goes up Christmas Eve and stays up 'til 6th January.

We usually chop it up when we take it down and burn it on the fire.

Eddas · 14/11/2007 16:21

first weekend in december for me. Can't wait Got the box of things down from the loft on monday , just so I know what's there/not there and so I can make ds a stocking which is the same size as dd's. Don't want fighting in later years

My bday is 24th Nov and would hate christmas decorations up then. Pre dc's I didn't even think about christmas until I'd had my bday but this year my presents are pretty much done. It's a good feeling.

Tortington · 14/11/2007 16:21

two weeks before

Wisteria · 14/11/2007 16:22

Queen that's backwards..........and miserable - why take it down on Boxing Day? Oh I know, it's because you're bored of it by then

Lazarou - should be ashamed of yourself....

thank heavens for people like Grouchy's husband

ScoobyDoo · 14/11/2007 16:30

You take it all down on boxing day? are you not menting to be relaxing, stuffing your face with goodies & drinking on boxing day?

sweetkitty · 14/11/2007 16:41

I have a new tree and lots of decorations am so tempted to put it up on the 1st but as DD2 is 22 months and will be a nightmare with it I may wait.

pooka · 14/11/2007 16:43

Get ours a maxumum of one week before. All taken down for 12th night.
