Just got my decs out and am tempted to whack the whole shabang up tonight lmao.
When will everybody else be putting their's up?

Now see for the past 4 yrs I have been very undecided about when to put the decs up as DS2 and 3 have their birthdays on the 17th. I never know if I should put them before their birthdays or afterwards (so the birthday is just a birthday...or 2!) We did it before just before DS3 came along (cos we weren't sure when we'd get the time and it entertained DS2), after the yr after (cos we had just moved into rented house for a few months and needed to locate said decs, ooh and had a birthday party at home so though it best with many small children arunning!) and before last yr.

Sorry what a waffle!!

QueenBhannae · 14/11/2007 16:56

I take the one in my front room down on boxing day to make room for setting up the toys lol
The one in the hallway will be planted in the garden again on boxing day then we go for a walk.
My dd is free to do as she pleases with her little one.
Wisteria-I am not backwards or miserable
If anything I am super advanced (at putting up the tree and taking it down again )
The rest of the decs outside and in(of which there are many) stay up long into the new year.

I didn't mean you were backwards but I do think it's miserable to take it down on Boxing Day !!

Just it seems completely out of all tradition and that is what astounds me with all these Christmas junkies.....can't wait until Christmas to put it up then take it down before Christmas is over strange.....

Lazarou · 14/11/2007 17:17

And I love the shame wisteria, it hurts so good!

bobsmum · 14/11/2007 17:18

Probably the week before Christmas. Dh will have to find a good one to chop down first though - shouldn't be hard round here (see profile pics for clue!)

And it'll be haggis on St Andrew's Night - yum!

QueenBhannae · 14/11/2007 17:18

I got the context of your backwards comment lol thus take no offence.
You are right, maybe I will hold off for a while this year at both ends
Absolutely could not put it up on Christmas Eve thoughy

HairyIrene · 14/11/2007 17:19

i like the people doing it early
cosy christmas windows
ahhh

its like the build up to doing your own..

bobsmum · 14/11/2007 17:19

And decorations definitely down again on 12th night...or else......

Ledodgy · 14/11/2007 17:20

We always put ours up on the 7th Dec. It's the anniversary of my dad's death and he loved Christmas. I put up the decs every year as a nice way to remember him.

QueenBhannae · 14/11/2007 17:21

Lazarou-you are on form!!!

OP posts:
Ledodgy · 14/11/2007 17:22

I'm due on the twelfth night so think i'll be taking them down before.

pagwatch · 14/11/2007 17:24

It will probably go up a week or two before - DH gets it at the weekend so it depends on how it falls each year.
He leaves the house to slay a mighty redwood. we discuss that a tree two big is silly and he leaves agreeing to be sensible. By the time he and ds are at the tree buying place the testosterone has been swooshing around the car and suddenly the tree is apparently representative of penis size and he returns with a tree too big to get in the door.
How ironic that i end up helping him to chop it down to size

Every year

Wisteria · 14/11/2007 17:25

That's lovely ledodgy, good reason.

Lazarou - Susan Cadogan yes?

bobsmum · 14/11/2007 17:27

Taking it a bit far though...

QueenBhannae · 14/11/2007 17:29

I did not think that I could laugh so much at a tree thread pagwatch!

OP posts:
pagwatch · 14/11/2007 17:30

so sad but so true

Wisteria · 14/11/2007 17:31

That's just wrong isn't it?

Flibbertyjibbet · 14/11/2007 17:33

19 Dec. Ds1's birthday is 18th Dec.

My mother did the same as my sisters birthday is 14 Dec.

Sorry Lazarou but I consider any thing before 1st December far too early. And even then 1st December is too early for me to do it.

Have updated profile with dh getting our Christmas tree from the back garden for last year - so much more fun than traipsing round B&Q

Lazarou · 14/11/2007 17:42

Don't panic, I won't be putting it up until december, I wouldn't want a visit from the christmas tree police

bigfatbump · 14/11/2007 18:58

Eddas, we share a birthday! And ITA aboout Christmas not starting till after the 24th.
