Been picking up non-perishables as I’ve been going along. Need to do fresh food, Veg, cheese etc.
Was planning on 23rd but now wondering if that will be too late as imagine with more people staying home and having to buy for thier little family things might run our earlier this year?
Eg in normal years for example with 4 households going to one house for Xmas dinner only 1 pack of sprouts, 1 jar of cranberry etc will be needed but if those 4 households are now all staying home then they will all buy a bag of sprouts and a jar of cranberry (as not really easy to get 1/4 bag of sprouts for instance)

I have a delivery booked on 23rd. I’m just hoping they have stock. It’s a morning slot so if they don’t deliver things I will try my local shops. I’m planning to buy veg from the local farm shop.

AdoraBell · 20/12/2020 00:59

Also, I’m in the south west so not changing tier, I’m hoping that will mean they shops won’t be stripped of stock.

I also hope everyone in the rest of the UK can get their food choices.

@ifIwerenotanandroid, turkeys are only guaranteed if you do a 'food to order'-type order from somewhere rather than a standard delivery / collection.

Aldi had loads of turkeys in store yesterday and I've seen plenty in Sainsbury's too. If you aren't dependent on a delivery, then you should be able to get one. If you don't have fridge space, get a big frozen one and keep it outside to defrost as it'll take a fair while in outside temps (we're chilly this week, admittedly).

Friendsoneuptown · 20/12/2020 09:17

My Tesco order comes tomorrow. I have a Marks and spencer collection booked on Wednesday. I’ll get anything missed or needing to be fresh on Wednesday when in M & S.

MarmaladeTeepee · 20/12/2020 09:59

We've got a turkey and pigs in blankets in the freezer (bought just in case) but we were meant to be travelling to and staying at DMs as a Christmas bubble so I don't have anything else in. I think I'm going to go early tomorrow, Lidl and Aldi both open at 7am and are a lot quieter than Tescos or Asda normally so I'm hoping to do a quick whizz round and be all sorted by 7.30.

I8toys · 20/12/2020 10:18

Already got a lot of frozen things and cheese, pate and nibbles.
Monday got a 7am slot at m&s for picking up gluten free things for fil, stuff for staff party and extra nibbles and things.
Tuesday got an 830am slot at M&S to pick up my food order
Tuesday evening got my Tesco delivery with hopefully my Christmas dinner!
Then locking the doors and going nowhere!

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 20/12/2020 14:01

Going at 6am on the Wednesday, should be waiting outside the butchers by 8am to collect the meat. Doing the first draft of the list now.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 20/12/2020 14:06

We are having a delivery on Wednesday from Morrison’s. If the sprouts are missing, I’m sure we’ll cope. 🤣

ifIwerenotanandroid · 20/12/2020 14:46

ThatsMySanta Thank you!

beebbeep · 20/12/2020 14:59

sofiaaaaaa · 20/12/2020 17:06

So I live in an area with a large M&S, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s right next to each other.

I think I went overboard with the food haul😂 I mainly bought starters/party food to the extent that a main meal isn’t needed. Luckily DP & I don’t want to do traditional dinner this year

goose1964 · 20/12/2020 17:27

We've a delivery due 22nd. If we miss things we'll need to go to Tesco or Waitrose to top up. No cheap shop near us thanks to the oh it'll remove my parking spot brigade who campaigned against Lidl

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/12/2020 17:35

Main shop Done today. Will shop Wednesday or even Thursday for bread etc.

DH arrived at 10am- opening time. It was crazy by the to he finished (about11am) but his definition of crazy might not be accurate. He got a small turkey joint no problem (says 2-4, were two adults and two kids, plus when you ad in all the sides...). Its use by date is about the 29th.

CoffeeRunner · 20/12/2020 17:38

We’ve got our turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing etc & most of the cheese & pate.

Just fresh veg to get later in the week. Maybe Wednesday.

AlphaJura · 20/12/2020 17:47

I've done it already 😂. Most of it is frozen this year. But use normal potatoes and add some fresh veg, most of which I have and will keep until then. Bought cheese and biscuits this weekend. Bought a couple of tins of sweets a while back. I decided to go for more frozen stuff this year as I don't like the hectic ness of supermarkets near Christmas at the best of times and I was worried about people panic buying or massive queues.

balloon27 · 20/12/2020 18:10

Iv got a slot booked for Tuesday! Any earlier an the kids and husband will of eaten everything still abit early for me usually get 23rd evening slot but 22nd was all they had this year, just glad I got one x

ifIwerenotanandroid · 22/12/2020 14:58

Well, I'm happy to report that I found a small turkey breast (half a crown? Grin) still available on Tesco's website so we've got that. And then today there's a report that some Asda shoppers haven't got the turkeys they pre-ordered.

But Asda, Tesco & Sainsburys have done our household proud this year, with their deliveries. A huge thanks to anyone who works for them.

Denny53 · 22/12/2020 15:04

@Spied

We have an Asda delivery on the 23rd. Our turkey is showing up as now unavailable. So are the carrots. No substitute available.
Yes. Don’t rely too heavily on an online order. Despite keeping an eye on things a lot of stuff was not available and that’s despite ‘ticking’ substitutes. No gammon, no whole nuts, no lemons I opted for delivery today rather than tomorrow or Xmas Eve as it gives me time to go out for these few items.
SuePreem · 22/12/2020 15:32

I've just done my food shop for a delivery tomorrow (slot reserved with 2 bottles of champagne, weeks ago) and am picking up my meat tomorrow too from a local butcher.

I'll go to the supermarket to pick up anything that doesn't come with the online order, and make do with anything I can't get (I have baileys, champagne and chocolate, so I'm fine for the day anyway).

I'm apprehensive that there may be a few things missing, but really it's just one day!

anyoldname76 · 22/12/2020 15:42

I went Asda at 7am, it was busy when I got there but by the time I was finished it was heaving. They didn't have a great choice of party nibbles this year but I went Iceland on Saturday so have a freezer full of snacks. I went our local butchers for the meat and they were well stocked. The only thing I forgot was foil and cling film.

CeeJay81 · 22/12/2020 15:45

We just had our Tesco delivery this morning, no subs or missing items! I was pleasantly surprised. 😁

WitchOfTheWest · 22/12/2020 15:45

I've been picking up Christmas treats for a couple of months. Did a booze/pop/non-perishable shop last week. Turkey has been in the freezer since last month. Husband doing the fresh shop after I've finished work at 10 tonight. I'm staying home with a Baileys and wrapping presents! 🍹 🎁

Helocariad · 22/12/2020 15:48

Did the last bits of shopping today so we're ok until boxing day. It's afterwards that will be the problem I think.

HayJkl · 22/12/2020 15:48

Did it this morning :)

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2020 15:48

Mine was delivered today, all there, I find the earlier slots tend to be more complete than those really close to Xmas, ie xmas eve, and also it means we have time to go out if something is missing and it’s not a last min rush.
