Just spent £30 on cheese. Just for me.

Tell me this is perfectly acceptable to do? Grin

My family aren't huge cheese eaters so for Christmas I just make sure we have the basics in ... a strong supermarket cheddar and some Brie

But on a whim I decided to order some cheese just for me. So I've just spent 30 quid on Neal's Yards and bought 2 different cheddars, a goats cheese and some damson paste

Seems just a bit ... extravagant. Even by my standards!

I’ve spent about £50 on my cheese order and DH isn’t having nearly as much as he thinks, he can stick to his cured meats.

Londonmummy66 · 10/12/2020 17:55

@Werk - might even have been a mate of mine - I have one who usually buys insane amounts at this time of year....

IntermittentParps · 10/12/2020 17:56

OP yes, there's a barrier about the smell and one about the mould to get over, that's for sure.

MonaLisaPiles · 10/12/2020 18:00

I think you were very restrained

I spent £56 on cheese today. Well, and a fennel saucisson. 85% will be eaten by me. It's Christmas in a year distinctly short on joy. We should enjoy what we can.

BikeRunSki · 10/12/2020 18:09

Completely fine.
I have just spent £10 on chutney and pickles, eill get cheese next week.

GlumyGloomer · 10/12/2020 18:16

This was my plan! Only then I spent all my money on other stuff. I might have some random January Blues comfort cheese instead.
You are being Unreasonable not to have a smoked cheese though. On my one trip to Neil's Yard they rather sniffily told me they did not stock smoked cheese. I'm a Cheese Shed girl, they do plenty Grin

JingsMahBucket · 10/12/2020 18:22

This is totally reasonable OP and you’ve inspired me to make most of my Christmas Day meals cheese-based. It’ll be me alone at home so I think I’ll cook a fatty duck breast and order a couple of cheeses.

BikeRunSki · 10/12/2020 18:22

I live in dairy farming countryside and there are a few locally made cheeses which I’ll get. For me. The DC and DH like mousetrap cheddar.

DarlingCoffee · 10/12/2020 19:09

Good for you. I’ve ordered a cheese board from Abel and Cole, can’t have Christmas without decent cheese!

BigMamaFratelli · 10/12/2020 19:14

I agree with people who have said it's not Christmas without cheese!

DP and I have cheese and biscuits at least once a week for dinner. Last night we were running a bit low, so just had 7 varietiesXmas Grin

OctaviaOrange · 10/12/2020 19:57

Wow I think I've gone far too small with just three cheeses! @BigMamaFratelli I want 7!!

I've also just bought £60 worth of cheese from the Fine Cheese Co. definitely Christmas without a good cheese selection.

AngusThermopyle · 10/12/2020 19:59

*not Christmas 😁

FraggleShingleBellRock · 10/12/2020 20:00

I'm a total cheese monster, makes perfect sense to me op!

GlitterandBalloons · 10/12/2020 20:12

Yes Smile enjoy

wizbit93 · 10/12/2020 20:24

This might be a really, really stupid question but..... I'd like to get DH some nice cheeses for a Xmas present. Is it ok to get them now? How would I go about storing them given that I won't be able to just put them in the fridge? Would they be ok in the shed in a cool bag?

They should be fine. My shed is as cold as my fridge at the moment.
wizbit93 · 10/12/2020 21:40

Thank you!

Chailatte20 · 10/12/2020 22:13

I live Neals Yard, I took my son there when he was 8 & they were so kind to him. He's a cheese nut so they treated him very graciously. Letting him try samples & calling him sir! My ds was really chuffed carrying his own little bag of cheddar and a mild blue which he chose himself.

herecomesthsun · 10/12/2020 23:50

Waitrose has a good deal on nice cheese right now.

Holothane · 11/12/2020 00:29

Enjoy I’ve spent a fortune on sweets for me luxuries version.

OctaviaOrange · 18/12/2020 19:59

Ooh it arrives tomorrow! But I've told myself no gorging until Christmas Eve

foodtoorder · 18/12/2020 20:09

Sounds amazing, enjoy every crumb!

perditaplum · 18/12/2020 20:11

Are you planning on gorging yourself on it soon?
