@MrsBobDylan the first secret diary is actually a locket thing where u open secret boxes to find surprises. The second is an actual diary which we would have the code too and she knows this, she doesn't keep secrets but its a fun toy she can also message us to our phones through it and do cool videos.

@MrsBobDylan I didn't boost about it I only mentioned it when asked the question multiple times.

Op, lovely gifts that you've put a lot of thought into. Your kids will have a magical day. I am with you op, I don't buy my kids toys throughout the year Willy nilly - I will however replace broken toys (wouldn't if it was through malice) throughout the year, or occasionally take them on my home bargains stocking up trip and let them chose a small thing. They have and are being brought up to appreciate what they have, and like yourself every year I give them a budget and they chose a boy/girl of similar age, and buy gifts they think the children would like, for the local collection. I love buying them gifts and love seeing their faces on Xmas morning when they get surprises or things they didn't think they'd get.

Haters are always going to hate, if you can afford it and aren't getting yourself into debt do what makes you and your family happy. Every Christmas Eve I end up keeping a couple of gifts by for their birthdays, as I've realised there's maybe too many of a certain type of toy etc. Though don't feel guilted into splitting the presents. I know people from all different backgrounds that all have a different idea of what is the right amount to spend/what is excessive - and the thing is NONE of them are correct!!!

myhobbyisouting · 08/11/2020 19:13

No. You deffo need more Lego Wink

madcow88 · 08/11/2020 19:13

I don't think it's too much I always go overboard and I think that stems from my rubbish disappointing childhood. However I am now struggling to think of what to buy DDs as they have everything.

whattodo2019 · 08/11/2020 19:16

@Ywosdwos

Close to £3k for everything I think But again I save all year for this one day
£3K?? wow. well if you can afford it then that's fine.
Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 19:51

@madcow88 haha ur list makes mine look lame. Good on you.. ur kids will love that.. I know what u are saying about uneven but the iPhone 8 costs way more then a hoverboard I'm guessing... I dont know the cost.. but ur choice if u can afford more then go for more , if not then its a great stash either way

@W33XXX thank you, its a lovely message. I dont see the point in buying all year round.. surely it can be just as expensive if not more so... who knows. Unless its required for a purpose then I wouldn't.. I would never dream of buying them a large lego set randomly in the year... never gonna happen. But I know people who do buy all year round and do double what I do for Xmas too.. now thats far more excessive then me.. but like u said every one is different there's no right or wrong in this one

I do agree that the thread title is insensitive OP.

You have spent literally thousands. And the thing is, this is the Christmas board. If you want to share what you've bought you can actually do so without adding the contentious "is this enough".

I would actually say that buying so much of one type of thing may ruin the allure of it. I love Harry Potter Lego but part if the fun of a hobby like lego is building what you have, planning what you want next, making lists, etc

It's kind of like putting it into sandbox mode and ruining some of the surrounding appeal.

CloudyVanilla · 08/11/2020 20:05

And the problem is the tag line is always "as long as you can afford it" but lots of people who cannot afford it do really splurge at Christmas. I hope you're managing OP; I'm sure your DC will have a lovely Christmas Flowers

@BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze

Who cares what other people think. If anyone dared to comment on how much stuff my kids get, I’d either ignore them or tell them to mind their own business. They’re not paying so they don’t get a say. 🤷🏻‍♀️
That's fine but OP came on a public forum specifically to ask, so I think people commenting is to be expected!

My post was aimed at the OP. Of course people will comment once she’s posted.

Applebloss0m · 08/11/2020 20:50

Sounds like enough... for 5 years!

rocketspin · 08/11/2020 20:53
@Galwaygirl hi. We buy lego display boxes depending on the sets and the value.. if they are more expensive we get like glass/ plastic clear display boxes.. if u search lego display boxes on amazon there are plenty
So they don't even get the pleasure of playing with them once they have been made? Poor kids. Half the fun of lego is using your imagination to make things as well as the model that's on the box.

As I said, I don't post my DCs lists but I've just had a look at what my DC are getting and totalled up what I've spent, it's a fraction of what you've spent and they are getting better variety of gifts to keep, experiences to do and things to be consumed. Spending 3k is not necessary to give a good range of gifts.

You say when you've bought non-lego it's ended up at the charity shop. You need to think what they like and will appreciate and find gifts that don't involve you spending 3k on children who don't appreciate what they are getting or work out better what they enjoy. The really expensive Lego sets are aimed at serious adult collectors and not at children who should be using their imagination and inventing things with lego not making kits up to put in display cases.

Applebloss0m · 08/11/2020 21:01

They can’t play with them! Poor kids. Half the fun of Lego is building your own stuff. I bet if you gave them one big pack they would soon start building their own ideas once they had finished the set.
Our older children are also Lego obsessed. They wouldn’t know what to do with that much - it would totally inhibit their creativity.

KimchiLaLa · 08/11/2020 21:05

Out of interest how much have you spent?

TimeToCloseTheDoor · 08/11/2020 21:38

2 designa friend dolls
Designa friends accessories
L.o.l remix

All of which were under the budget of £250 each thanks to offers and work discounts. Done very well this year 😊

timeforanewstart · 08/11/2020 23:43

It is a lot of money yes, but if you can afford it and not got in to debt for it then thats up to you , your money , your kids.
Just make sure they put all lego away ,no pain like walking on a piece of lego in the darkSmile

ZenNudist · 09/11/2020 00:12

Too much, bit unbalanced / unimaginative to get all that Lego. I'm guessing you are also a Lego fan?

No child ever complained about getting Too much but the more they get the less they care so don't set yourself up for an amazing Christmas, brace for disappointment as I can't see that lot resulting mega happy grateful kids!

I would go further and say that it’s nearly always people who can’t truly afford it who do this shit. Genuinely financially secure people just don’t. Personally, if I was a recently furloughed communications manager with poor communication skills, I wouldn’t currently want to be pouring too many thousands into filling my house with knock off lego and plastic diaries.
