Obviously what do you buy and how much you spend is entirely up to you but I would personally think that so many items would be a little overwhelming and it would be hard for the children to know where to start! I imagine that you have spent a colossal amount of money but that is a very personal matter. Do keep in mind, however, that when you start buying this number of gifts t is very difficult to stop and children grow older and their gift wishes are even more expensive. I say this from personal experience.[😊

Longbarn5 · 11/11/2020 05:34

Sorry, just read that you have sent around £3,000. Obviously that is a lot of money but it is your business what you do with it. You must have a high income or you would not be able to save this much for Christmas presents. I have have friends at many different income levels and the way they choose to spend money at Christmas is varied and surprising. We do do things in your own way because we are all individuals.

The OP’s question was “Is it enough?”
I haven’t read the whole thread, but did anyone reply
“No, you stingy cow, get out and buy some more”.

Not quite a few have suggested that it's very limited in what she has actually listed. Once they've built it then what? Not much to keep them going during the year.

DS1 11 YO -
Lego star wars darth vader tower £120.00
Lego stranger things (The upside down?) £179.99
Lego star wars genesis £64.99
Lego ideas nasa (the space station?) £64.99
Lego creator book shop £149.99
Lego Xmas train £99.99
Lego star wars at p walker £119.00
Lego madalorian set £17.99
The child mandarlorian teddy £21.00
Lego colleseum - Could not find online so guessing £50+
Inline roller skates £40
Lego star wars sith art £100.00

Is that about right? I haven't the time to work out each child but assuming that you've spent a similar amount on each this adds up to approximately £1000 per child. Seems really really excessive and children of these ages don't even fully appreciate the value of money yet! I'd be inclined to agree with your mum sorry OP

Chailatte20 · 13/11/2020 10:45

Like I said before just hold a few gifts back for birthdays and the rest of the year. I do this, mine get a massive pile from friends & relations. So I just stagger it through the year & they always look forward to having a gift at the start of each school holiday. As it gives them something to occupy themselves with.

limeandpickle · 19/11/2020 13:12

Wow! I thought I spoilt mine with 2 presents each! Each to their own and everyone is different! I find it hard to believe they can appreciate all that, I am of the thought that the less they have the more they appreciate, but call me old fashioned!

pinkyboots1 · 19/11/2020 13:20

What a lovely 'Ninja brag' post! You know full well it's enough... I think it's poor taste to post like that.. it's great that you've saved so hard etc but there's going to be families out there struggling to give anything this year

goldielockdown2 · 19/11/2020 18:11

What you've got your 9 and 7 year old are fine, but your other DS is just left with a heap of lego. Maybe a couple of bits to add some variety?
Anyone would think you were advertising lego 😂

ihearttc · 19/11/2020 20:27

I overspend at Christmas because apart from £10 in a card from my parents they get no other presents at all for Christmas so I tend to go over the top!

DS1 is nearly 16 is getting a new iPhone as his is 4 years old and won’t hold the charge any more. But that’s all he is getting apart from stocking fillers and a hoody and will he use it every single day (obviously with a 16 year old!!).
All DS2 (10) wants to do is play football so he’s getting new boots, new kit, Fifa 21, gaming chair, new goal, ball, new football jacket and a skateboard. Do they only stay indoors and build mega expensive Lego sets? No football or sports of any sort? DS enjoys Lego as much as most children but I can’t imagine spending £1k on plastic bricks!

Cutesbabasmummy · 20/11/2020 17:38

My DS (almost 6) is having a new bike as he's outgrown his old one. It's an Islabike so has set us back £450. But we have agreed to sell his old one to someone fir £190 which helps a lot. Apart from that he is getting some smaller lego sets, books, his favourite chocolate orange snd some board games that we can all play together.

Stresshead31 · 11/12/2020 09:57

I also love to spoil my child for Xmas and spend a fair bit of money on him, whilst still trying to install in him that he is very lucky that we are fortunate, especially in these unprecedented times. He buys toys from his own savings for other little boys and girls who aren't as fortunate, and at only 6 he understands why he is doing this.
I also think that you posted this for your own self satisfaction and for others to massage your ego by being shocked at the amount you spend on your children. It would be completely insensitive at the best of times, but even more so given the financial crush that some families are feeling. You are either completely oblivious to your ignorance or you don't really care.
Before you say that your children also happily give, which is wonderful, maybe be more aware of your subtle bragging and how this may rub off on your own children, for our children learn our behaviours from those closest to us. Now I'm sure you wouldn't want your own children bragging to the child at school who gets next to nothing Grin

pinkksugarmouse · 11/12/2020 13:49

Op I hope for your families sake that you remain on your comfortable income because that's far from certain at any time let alone now. One day when you are struggling to pay the electricity bill and the mortgage and having to eek out food you may look back on this and feel violently sick at the money you wasted. I wouldn't wish that on anyone but nobody should ever delude themselves that it won't happen to them.

Lovemusic33 · 11/12/2020 14:23

Can’t believe this thread is still going. OP isn’t real, most things on her list are not even available, Lego sets that are discontinued or not released yet 🤔, she’s clearly her for the attention and to piss people off.

Even if I could afford to spend £1000+ per child I wouldn’t and most well off people I know are tight as fuck and just buy there kids one or 2 gifts for Christmas. Think how boring it would be opening Lego set after Lego set.
