How prepared are you?

Just wondering how far people have got with their Christmas preparations, especially since England is about to be locked down until 2nd December (at least!)

I would say I'm two thirds done. I've finished shopping for DS and have a few bits for DP, DM, 3 out of 6 nieces/nephews. Still need to get presents for my DB and the in laws (no idea what to get!). The rest can be done online apart from some supermarket sweets.

I've also ordered the turkey and got crackers, wrapping paper and some toddler friendly tree decorations (my precious glass ones aren't making an appearance this year!)

How much have you all got left to do?

I need booze, more treats, potatoes and cheese. I need a starter, canapes, pudding, streaky bacon. Crisps too, nice ones.

I'm in Scotland so no idea if we'll be locking down but I'm not standing about in December for wrapping paper.

If I can get fresh veg, I will. If not there's freezer stuff.

I could do a decent enough Christmas tomorrow if needed.

Happierwithouthim · 03/11/2020 15:14

Actually probably less prepared than usual.

I'm in ROI, we're in lockdown currently until beg of Dec. I'm on online shopper anyway.

Ex is meant to be taking care of Santa this year and as I got zero toward previous few years I'm letting him at it, hoping that doesn't bite me in the ar*e Grin

I guess with visiting less and have less visitors there'll be less need for stuff anyhow.

I'm hoping to move house prior to it so I guess I'm kinda of in limbo with that too to a certain extent.

I've money saved for it though so that's a big plus!

WhatAreWordsWorth · 03/11/2020 15:29

I’ve bought most of my presents over the last few weeks, just a couple left to buy (I’m waiting for Black Friday).

I have an Ocado slot booked on 20th Dec, and I’m picking up some beef and other bits from M&S on the 22nd (also planning to use this visit to pick up anything that will no doubt be missing from my Ocado order).

I’ve also bought advent calendars and wrapping paper, along with a few random bits that will keep - Lindor, crackers, chutneys, Baileys etc.

I’m much more prepared than normal!

Changethetoner · 03/11/2020 15:31

I bought the obligatory bags of chocolate coins - and the dog found them and ate them. So I bought them again, and made sure to put them definitely out of the dog's reach - and my husband ate them.

So, despite my efforts, not very ready at all.

Enchantmentz · 03/11/2020 15:40

Done all my dc presents pretty much, only a gift voucher and halfers on one thing with dgparents to do and all done. Not overly invested in doing anything else tbh, I never host so I don't have to worry about food and I don't eat any more than I usually do at that time. Will get dbro, dsil, dmum, dog and cat a present and that is it. Might send cards in the post to each of my friends which I never do but since I won't likely see them much it will be a nice gesture.

Ffsnosexallowed · 03/11/2020 15:41

Not at all - but it's one day, 2 months away.

I8toys · 03/11/2020 15:44

Started early - advent calendars and new decorations bought. Wrapping paper and cards. Lots of food bought - adding treats and food stuffs for the cupboard and freezer as the weeks have been going by and we have an M&S food near us. Christmas food ordered from M&S. Just a few more presents now to order - flowers and smellies for mum's birthday on christmas eve, gluten free food for fil, just twitching over more for the kids - they have the new xbox s and x preordered but maybe some clothes and a new guitar amp. Just waiting for Black Friday deals and I'll be done I think.

jessstan1 · 03/11/2020 15:45

I have all my Christmas presents.

Pepperwand · 03/11/2020 15:46

Oh @Changethetoner I needed that laugh, thank you.

I've bought all the presents for my DC and also my DNeices and Nephews so the children are sorted. I also have a back up entire Christmas dinner in the freezer as when I went to Aldi last week they were completely out of frozen turkeys and stuffing and I just can't face the thought of mad rushes to the supermarket in December so I went to Tesco and picked up everything I need a la Aunt Bessie. I'm sure it'll be fine and I'll be doing homemade roasties, parsnips etc but it's made me feel better knowing it's there and if not needed we can eat it another time!

EternalOptimist7 · 03/11/2020 15:50

Hardly started but then it is only Nov 3rd! I’ve been buying pressies for DD11 throughout the year & have a few other folks sorted. Planning menus. It’s going to be pretty low key here this year. We usually have DM & DF round but not sure if DM can manage the stairs now 😢

BiddyPop · 03/11/2020 15:55

I have a shopping order booked for every week, so I will get my food bit by bit over the weeks between now and Christmas as part of the weekly needs. And I've also ordered my turkey breast for Thanksgiving dinner later this month.

I have a few presents sorted, and a few made but a few to finish making yet and quite a few to make yet. Nothing wrapped until early December.

I missed the RNLI shop before it closed for our lockdown, so ordered my cards almost 2 weeks ago from their website, and I'm still waiting for them to be delivered before I can start writing.

Once I have the presents bought, I need to send parcels through the post in various directions as we won't see people in person. I'll buy my stamps for cards at the same time.

It will all get done, regardless of whether lockdown finishes on schedule or has to continue a bit (or lot) longer.

123rd · 03/11/2020 16:01

Haven't even thought about starting to buy presents or anything yet!

wheresmymojo · 03/11/2020 16:12

Sadly we can't afford Christmas this year Sad

DH & I are going to purchase a book for each other - on the upside preparation will be easy and quick!

BiddyPop · 03/11/2020 16:13

That was meant to say I have plans to make a few more presents and to buy quite a few. I'll probably do online shopping if need be - there are plenty of nice small local suppliers of nice soaps, candles, jewellery, wood carvings, etc who are online.

whereshalligo · 03/11/2020 16:14

Nothing done can't give it headspace yet.

Happierwithouthim · 03/11/2020 16:14

Was buying 3 for 2 packet sauces a couple of weeks ago, schwartz and picked up the turkey gravy one, made me Smile thinking is this preparation for Christmas Grin

Aquamarine1029 · 03/11/2020 16:16

Haven't even thought about it and don't plan to.

Bikingbear · 03/11/2020 16:20

Changethetoner that's quite funny.

I always start with the kids, I've a couple of things to get for DS1, need shops to get stock, dithering on what else to get DS2 but think we'll get him a scooter too. Then they can share a ramp.
Little nephews - sorted.
Big nieces - want money - boring!
ILs - sorted
Mum - half way.
DH - no clue.

So about half way there.

Bikingbear · 03/11/2020 16:22

Still to sort food, but planning to buy just for us and my Sis is doing the same with the logic it's easier to merge than divide.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/11/2020 16:23

Presents: DDs nearly done. I know what I'm buying though. DN... Nearly. DH... Getting there. DM know what I getting. DF not a clue. DB not a clue. Dmil.. half done. DFil... DH job.
Wrapping cards... Not sorted
Decorations.... Don't need anything new, have to check
Food... Far to early to think about.

It's weird, usually have the two weeks planned out at this stage (cooindinating with family Al over the country). Currently planning service station car park gift exchanges.

IndecentFeminist · 03/11/2020 16:23

Majority of Christmas presents done as normal for this time of year. Am doing all the meat and veg on a pay monthly thing from local farm shop, it'll be delivered on the 23rd. That's about it

Chocolatehasruinedmylife · 03/11/2020 16:30

I'm not.

I am usually finished gift shopping by now, with the food part still to do. I'm not even half way through gift shopping, and I've ran out of money, so I think it'll be beans on toast for Christmas dinner this year.

TheMethodicalMeerkat · 03/11/2020 16:50

Pretty well organised here. We started shopping for the dcs in September when I was finally able to get a Switch and a sewing machine, neither of which had been available for months. They both have a nice selection of gifts to open on Xmas day even if I don’t pick up anything else.

Nine nieces and nephews gifts are either already delivered or en-route (most of them live in the UK and we don’t so I was determined to get those sorted early to ensure availability and delivery). I still have my parents to shop for but I’m sorely lacking ideas as we usually do things like dinner and a show and that’s not an option currently. Thankfully we don’t do gifts between siblings so I don’t have to rack my brain for ideas for lots of adults!

Christmas food and alcohol we’ll pick up along with our usual grocery shopping over the next while. We don’t eat meat so no concerns re ordering a turkey or whatever.

PattyPan · 03/11/2020 17:34

I’m pretty well organised - I’ve been thinking about it for months as a bit of escapism.
Got all the presents except DSIL as DP is supposed to be asking her what she wants. I haven’t wrapped anything though and haven’t got family cards yet. Kicking myself because I was in card factory a few weeks ago and decided to buy them later Hmm Still have a box of general cards from last year though and a book of stamps coming in next week’s delivery.
Waitrose delivery booked for Xmas Eve.
Got some food and beverages in already.
Picked up advent calendars in Tesco today!

That made me laugh Grin it's a lose lose situation isn't it? I keep buying treats and my DH and DD keep finding and eating them!
