How prepared are you?

Just wondering how far people have got with their Christmas preparations, especially since England is about to be locked down until 2nd December (at least!)

I would say I'm two thirds done. I've finished shopping for DS and have a few bits for DP, DM, 3 out of 6 nieces/nephews. Still need to get presents for my DB and the in laws (no idea what to get!). The rest can be done online apart from some supermarket sweets.

I've also ordered the turkey and got crackers, wrapping paper and some toddler friendly tree decorations (my precious glass ones aren't making an appearance this year!)

How much have you all got left to do?

MrsPernicious · 04/11/2020 11:38

I'm making quince cheese and candied peel today, so we will have some interesting treats. Otherwise it is going to be quite a mellow Christmas.

timeforanewstart · 04/11/2020 11:46

Got some of ds presents and brother & sil ,but not a lot else , got my nan and mums bday presents as both before xmas as well.
Going to try and order at least one present each online for people over next month , so i at least have a gift to give everyone incase lockdown is extended or the shops are too packed

WellTidy · 04/11/2020 11:48

More prepared now than I was at the beginning of the week.

*Bought presents for friends’ children and all nieces and nephews.

*Bought some smaller gifts for friends, but haven’t finished any of them as yet.

*Advent calendars ordered for delivery.

*Cards bought.

*Some stocking fillers for my Dc bought.

*Turkey crown ordered.

Still loads to do even for the more scaled down Christmas that we will be having.

CamdenLurker · 04/11/2020 11:56

I'm very nearly done!

New Pj's are in hand for all dc's (teens and older) I've got selection boxes and chocolate coins too, gifts are purchased, but not yet wrapped, I'll wait until December for that.

I picked up a frozen turkey crown in Asda last weekend, never had frozen turkey before so we'll see how that turns out, plus I've got a Sainsbury's order for 6am Christmas Eve.

RuthW · 04/11/2020 11:58

I need to make my crackers and order fresh food.

aToadOnTheWhole · 04/11/2020 13:08

Most of DSs presents done, Christmas eve box stuff mostly done. I've started a Christmas treats/kitchen stuff box but I need to separate it out so DH doesn't eat it.

We're not really doing adults presents this year so will just send my grandma and auntie a festive bunch of flowers. And got to sort teacher gifts but I know what I'm doing there.

SpnBaby1967 · 04/11/2020 16:13

As far as the kids go I am sorted, we have the frozen turkey already.

Any other gifts can be done off Amazon so no issues really. I have some wrapping paper but will certainly need more.

Already have some christmassy snacks in. If xmas happened tomorrow it would be fine, but even with lockdown I'm expecting to get everything sorted no bother.

pointlesss · 04/11/2020 17:41

Pretty well organised
All presents /gift bags /paper bought
All chocolates /sweets /Xmas cake /nibbles/crackers bought
New Xmas pjs /dressing gown slippers bought
Got a frozen turkey /frozen party food

Will buy fresh party food from M&S/food shop on the 23rd December

Lovelydovey · 04/11/2020 17:44

Pretty prepared. Most presents bought. Turkey and pigs in blankets in the freezer, Christmas cake made. Not sure what else I would need? We don’t tend to go too overboard.

Holothane · 04/11/2020 18:41

Thrilled got my Christmas Eve slot so can start adding the luxury stuff to the basket, the beef joint for the fillet steaks ect.

UndertheCedartree · 04/11/2020 19:33

I've been shopping today and yesterday to get the last bits I want from shops that will close for lockdown. I should be able to get everything else online or in shops that will remain open.

I've got advent calendars and Christmas crafts/gingerbread house for Advent.

I've got Dutch treats for Sinterklaas on 5th Dec.

I've got everything except a couple of tree decorations for putting in the DC's christmas eve boxes.

I've got all the stocking fillers except a Costa giftcard and a Zelda amiibo for DS and some Baby Alive clothes and nappies for DD.

Got or ordered almost all of DD's presents. Only things left to get are a couple of Designafriend outfits and a board game.

Still to get for DS - pokemon card album, a few books, a pokemon plush and a board game.

I've got DP's present. Also got almost everything for the hamper I am making us. Just want to order some really nice chocolates, get some nuts and some nice deodorant and showergel for DP to put in there.

Got or ordered presents for most family members. Just got to get a gift voucher for a DNw, order some craft things for a DN, get a selection box for another DNw and order a toy for baby DNw.

I have an M&S order to collect on 23rd and everything else will come in online shops. I've already got a tin of biscuits, christmas and chocolate pudding and a christmas cake that I will ice. A tub of twiglets, some lebkuchen and a bottle of J2O spritz too!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/11/2020 20:23

No food bought yet for Christmas but I don't need to worry about turkey , we don't eat it

I have DD Beauty Advent all organised , bagged up and ready for the wooden number tags
DS has his Birthday/Christmas (at his request) Fender Stratocaster
I've ordered some hoodie tops for DS and bought DS and DD Pjs and new underwear

Ordered some Stella McCartney perfume for DD

No idea what DH or I want , not really fussed TBH.

I'm just looking forward to a few days off work, NHS and we're heading for a shitstorm

Jenniferturkington · 04/11/2020 20:28

I’ve booked a Waitrose slot. That’s the sum total of my preparations.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/11/2020 20:30

Errr

I have a bottle of Baileys & a tin of quality street. I'm done yeah?

BakewellGin1 · 04/11/2020 20:38

Presents for both DS bought. I do need a dressing gown for one and trainers for the other still but other then that presents and stocking stuff is sorted.

DP, DGM and DSis are all bought

Just need presents for a few children in the family

Decorations are all sorted they are just same as last year's with a new bauble each for DS

Food I have a list of snacks/goodies that DS enjoy and will get those for over the festive period

Proper food shop will be planned once I know what we are doing:who we can see but I have a list which is same for every Xmas Day so that's ready if usual goes ahead.

Advent calanders, tree chocolates are bought

Zakidoodles23 · 04/11/2020 20:40

I've been focusing on xmas as a distraction so pretty much sorted. I've got advent calendars, december box bits, xmas pjs, xmas bedding, all presents bought, a few new decs, crackers, wrapping paper, bows, tags and all the food that can be bought ahead of time. I'm going to start wrapping next week. I'm also going to post my MIL's presents so I know she's got them.

TeaOneSugar · 04/11/2020 20:58

I booked my Christmas Eve slot today, I immediately felt much more prepared.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 04/11/2020 23:15

My youngest daughter is done, my eldest im mostly done just a few bits to order online when I get paid.

Bought my mil and fil gifts, ordered my neices.

Just got to sort my mum, sister and my nephew.

Me and dh won't buy for each other, hopefully we can book a few nights away next year on our own!

Food ive been picking up bits, will grab more next time I go shopping each time until Christmas. We don't buy many extras anyway so its just an extra few pounds each time.

But my main job is to have a clear out as I currently have nowhere to put the Christmas tree 😂

Mustbethewine · 05/11/2020 02:10

Got the kids pretty much sorted, mostly finished my family, have my asda delivery slot booked for Christmas food delivery, need to start stocking up the booze this week though but don't need much as I don't think we'll be having as much visitors this Christmas.

MrsAvocet · 05/11/2020 02:24

I don't normally start thinking about it until December really. My children are teens/young adults who mainly want money towards big items and I don't have many other people to buy for. Both my parents are dead and we've reached a consensus decision amongst the wider extended family this year to make donations to charities of our choice in lieu of presents. So to be honest, I haven't got a lot to do. We don't even know if our adult DD will be able to come home and I doubt we will see the rest of the family, so it may well just be the four of us for the whole of the festive season. Its a lot less stressful but in a way I do miss the days of having young children to get things ready for. I will buy a few small items for DH and the boys to open on Christmas Day but I think it will all be very quiet for us this year.

MarmaladeTeepee · 05/11/2020 05:09

I'm more or less done. I've got a bespoke piece of jewellery on order for DM (made from seaglass so the maker just needs to find the right size/shape) and I need to get gift vouchers for DNs, but they all live 150+ miles away so worst case scenario I can just send money.

We don't buy for any adults apart from DM (DH and I treat ourselves to a mini break in the 6 weeks holidays instead of presents - hoping we'll manage that next year) and the DC are sorted.

Got all the extra bits including advent calendars, stuff for the Christmas Eve boxes, cards and wrapping paper. I use the same decorations every year so I don't need to worry about them.

We've got a frozen turkey and I'm just going to get the rest of the Christmas food gradually over the next few weeks when we do our normal food shop.

I detest busy shops at the best of times, so I always try to make sure I'm done by mid-November, but I've been extra organised this year after we got caught out with DD's birthday at the very beginning of the last lockdown.

niki26 · 05/11/2020 08:32

I'm on maternity leave and taking advantage of that initial stage where baby sleeps a lot! I'm always very organised in general - I was planning a big circus party for my daughter and as that won't be happening now I've channelled my efforts into our family Christmas instead.

I've ordered the turkey from a local farmer to collect Christmas Eve. I've also ordered some beef and side veggies from M&S to also collect Christmas Eve and this will be for Boxing Day meal. Will order Sainsbury's slot as soon as I can for Christmas (I'm delivery pass holder) and will order the rest to come from there. Husband will try and get veggies for Christmas Day from the farm when he collects turkey but I don't want to rely on that this year. We grow our own potatoes so will have some lovely roasties for sure!

Presents - I've got a large family and we all live in different places. We've decided already to post presents via local courier and we'll Skype on Christmas Day. If restrictions ease my parents might drive to me with gifts but it won't be on Christmas Day. As we've made the decision now as a family it means we can get in with ordering food etc without being in limbo as to numbers. I've ordered and received some presents. I would like to finish family gifts soon and then wrap and get ready for posting.

I've started my own gift tags and look forward to finishing these for when I wrap the gifts.

I've got most of the presents for my daughters - although as my eldest is 5 in December some of the gifts will be for her birthday. I need to make a final decision as to which gifts are for which occasion! I still need to get toothbrush and a chocolate Santa for her stocking and I really want a hot chocolate bomb for her Christmas Eve box.

Am doing my own Christmas wreath this year - I went to a wreath making class last year and it was really good fun so I'll take DD1 out foraging for stuff to make our own!

Hmmmm - think that's it for now!

Lovemusic33 · 05/11/2020 08:47

I’m 2/3 done, got the dc’s main presents sorted and stocking fillers (almost), just a few family gifts to get, holding out for Black Friday deals. If we end up in a longer lockdown I will be ok.

InTheCludgie · 05/11/2020 13:54

Got all DD and DS's main presents and only a couple of things left to get for their stockings. Have a drawer full so far of snack items, Xmas pudding, cake etc. Still to find out if DH is working Xmas day before making plans re rest of the food items. I'm in a support bubble with my sister but if DH is working we will likely just order takeaway for us and the kids

Trixie18 · 05/11/2020 13:59

You're all insane 😂😂 I've bought 4 presents, that's it, ooops 🤭
