Anyone else putting the Christmas decorations up earlier than usual?

We usually put the tree and outside lights up about the first or second week in December but this year we’re thinking of doing it much earlier.
The idea is to try to cheer everyone up, teenage DCs are keen so I’ve just got to persuade DH. I’m thinking of around a month earlier. Anyone else thinking the same? It’s been such a horrid year so anything positive has got to be good.

Yes! Potentially looking at start of November Grin we have a cabin in the garden where we spend evenings, and I've ordered a new tree for out there

Abraid2 · 10/10/2020 18:16

I hate seeing Christmas decorations up increasingly early. By the time it gets to the actual day, it feels so stale.

Undies1990 · 10/10/2020 18:18

I haven't really thought about it, but yes what a great idea - we might join you!

Eng123 · 10/10/2020 18:21

I always go for first weekend in December. This feels really early as my parents wouldn't think of a tree until 20th dec at the earliest. I think I'm being truly defiant going for early December as it is!

MaverickDanger · 10/10/2020 18:23

Normally do second of December but might aim for 1st December - I’m due 15th so kind of want them up and done!

MaverickDanger · 10/10/2020 18:23

Second weekend that was supposed to be - not sure a day will make much of a difference 🙈

Goldistheanswer · 10/10/2020 18:24

Oh I’m so pleased! We all need some twinkling lights and general loveliness. I seem to have a constant sick, anxious feeling in my stomach this year due to worries about Covid and health problems in my family. Anything to help bring a smile to our faces would mean such a lot. Plus we get lots of little children going past our house and admiring all the pretty lights so I’m sure they’ll appreciate it too.
Gin Now you’ve suggested the start of November, I might just join you!

Someone in a street near me, put their tree up last weekend

tigger001 · 10/10/2020 18:37

Normally I would say no p, as by time it gets to Christmas the magic has gone as it's just gone on too long, but this year would be an exception and if it cheers your family up, go for it Grin

Mustbethewine · 10/10/2020 18:48

We usually decorate the last week in November as I like everything up and decorate for the first day in December but might decorate a little earlier than planned this year ❤

GameSetMatch · 10/10/2020 18:51

No, first weekend in December for us, I find it starts to look a bit tatty after a few weeks. If it was up to my youngest we would already have the tree up! With all the Christmas bits and bobs in the shops already he asks me everyday ‘Father Christmas coming in a minute?’

Autumngoldleaf · 10/10/2020 18:51

I'll probably do it normal time actually, second weekend instead December but may put the outdoor Dec's up earlier and the lights..

RaininSummer · 10/10/2020 18:55

Definitely not the proper Christmas things like the tree and shiny, baubly stuff until at least after first week of December but will indulge my fairy light, lava lamp and candles fetish after dark from this point forward.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/10/2020 18:57

Someone near me who lives on a main road put all of their Christmas decorations up in the middle of lockdown - so April!! (Since taken down but I wonder what the story was behind that)

I’ve got three trees to do so I’ll start the last weekend of November

TakeMeToYourLiar · 10/10/2020 18:59

Normally do mine first week in December. But we have plans to go to a grotto last weekend in November (slots went quick as less places available) so may do it that weekend.

Baby due Jan 2nd so god knows when they will come down!

elQuintoConyo · 10/10/2020 19:07

No. We'll put ours up the weekend of 11-12-13 December. They stay up until after epicfanny, so putting them up in November or early Deccmber I'd get bored of them - and I LOVE Christmas.

Plus we have an early-December birthday child in the house, so they always go up after that.

We have got a few bits up for hallowee'en already, a 2D articulated skeleton which we make into ridiculous poses, and the feather boa monster door wreath.

I have crammed my Christmas notebook with ideas and things I've already bought, though, and lists of useful websites etc. And a note of wherer i've hidden things Grin

Zakidoodles23 · 10/10/2020 19:14

Epicfanny Grin

TrickyD · 10/10/2020 19:38

Last year we had the decorations up early (for us), the last weekend in November, because DS1, his DP and their little DS were going to Brazil to stay with DP's mum, so we had Christma Dinner before they left, plus another at the proper time.

This year I am looking forward to reverting to our normal end of first week in December (and only one Christmas Dinner) Just hoping the family will be able to be with us.

burglarbettybaby · 10/10/2020 19:44

Grin epicfanny .. lol
I am not putting mine up early but i think its a very nice idea! I put up stuff for Halloween (wreath and cushion covers etc) so i will take those down and give a good clean and gor for 2nd weekend in Dec as usual

Fridgeandkitchen · 10/10/2020 19:50

We will do the usual here. Up 1 December and they will be down here n 29 or 30 December.

LetsBounce · 10/10/2020 19:51

We aren't. But we are making them earlier. We went pinecone finding today! Once made they're going in a special box until the usual time.

I will be buying more candles and maybe nice lamps though, the dark nights feel a bit more heavy this year.

Do what you need to do.
2020 has been rough for us all.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/10/2020 19:51

No. Because we're not even halfway through OCTOBER...

LongPauseNoAnswer · 10/10/2020 19:53

I’m putting up the fairy lights but the rest will wait until December.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 10/10/2020 19:55

Good lord no. Mine go up the weekend after dc break up from school and I'm sick of them by Christmas day Grin.

73kittycat73 · 10/10/2020 19:57

I've had some up for a week or two...Xmas Blush
Got my tree delivered today and I've put it up to test the lights (Pre-lit.) and it's staying up. Xmas Grin
