New thread again. Doesn't seem 5 minutes since the last one! 😂

Our microwave gets used for DS's morning porridge (with cinnamon, it'd be more than my life's worth to run out!!), defrosting stuff I have forgotten to defrost in the fridge, and cooking frozen veggies instead of putting them on the hob. And mulled wine in winter Wink

The trees here are only just starting to turn, and it's been quite warm today. My friend came round; for one reason or another we've had to cancel every other time we'd planned to meet, so it was the first time I've seen her in person since February!! It was really nice to have a proper chat, put the world to rights.

We don't get a lot of geese flying over here, which I hadn't really thought about before. I think we're just not on the 'flight path' - there's a bird sanctuary a couple of miles to the West, so they probably miss us to get to and from there. Used to get loads when I was at my parents'.

Mrsmadevans · 07/10/2020 20:13

I couldn't live without a microwave l use it for loads of things Smile Bacon does lovely in there on my microwaveable plate Grin
Fire that sounds lovely for you both l bet you had a great time catching up Smile
Wreck glad you had a good day after the exam stress Smile
MM they have it in Tesco and Wilkos if you want some , l had loads from Tesco after Christmas half price, came in handy when there was rationing for Covid Grin

MarshmallowManiac · 07/10/2020 22:52

Thanks Mrs will head down there, I bet they came in handy Grin Also thinking of buying some Christmas hand towels too. Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2020 22:55

Oh no, Mrs. Microwaved bacon is a crime against food. I'd rather never eat it again than have it microwaved!

I'm not a fan of microwaved food generally.

Fire, we defrost in water if we forget to get something out the night before. Seems to work!

Mrsmadevans · 07/10/2020 23:54

It's lovely Fluffy l have a special dish l use 😅
Lovely towels MM your Tesco may not have them in yet, l have only found them in my local one yet so don't be too disappointed 😊

Morning! It's wet, so no run today; I'm really not into getting sodden feet, not with my Raynauds to consider!

Mrs, we'll have to agree to disagree! I have no desire to eat microwaved bacon at all. Envy

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 08/10/2020 07:14

It's wet here too. I'm going to the seaside today. Well not really but the town I'm going to has a big beach Grin

Has anyone go their GH magazine yet?

Did I tell you I've booked a hotel for two weeks Friday in London? For all of us. Trying to think of what to do when we're there, I want to take the dc to see the Crown Jewels but it's so expensive (sorry if I've said all of this my memory is awful at the moment). Two weeks tomorrow so it's looking quite likely it'll be able to go ahead.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2020 07:38

I'm hoping the GH comes today. It was dispatched ages ago, allegedly!

You hadn't mentioned the hotel / trip! It sounds fun. Are there any offers you can get? E.g. by doing the free Kids Pass subscription for a month?

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 08/10/2020 07:42

It seems nowhere is offering any discounts at the moment, I've had a good search and can't find any, I do understand. I might just do it, I think it'll be better to pay a bit more to go when it's quiet. We will obviously go to Waterstones and the dc haven't been to Chinatown before either. I'll show you the hotel later, I haven't told the dc yet but they think premier inn is posh so will love this!

FireflyGirl · 08/10/2020 07:50

It sounds like a river is running past our house at the moment! Don't think I'll be walking to the gym later!

I got a dispatch email for my GH mag, but it hasn't arrived yet. Maybe today!

Sounds fun, Wreck. Funnily enough, DS was asking about the Crown Jewels yesterday!

DSil lives in Clapham, so we'd been planning a trip over the summer. We were hoping to go to the Natural History Museum, British Museum, a workshop at the Tate Modern, and do a bus tour. And probably have a look around the Lego shop in Leicester Square! If you could do lots of free things, you might not notice the fee for the Crown Jewels...

WreckTangled · 08/10/2020 07:53

Yes true, it's the food that ends up costing lots I think, we don't have much choice round here to go a bit crazy when we're in London Grin going to go true bubble waffle place as the dc will like that. Will think about museums but they're not that keen tbh. Going to do this this film statue trail too

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2020 07:55

My two would love the Natural History Museum, as they love that kind of thing!

Have you got any cash back you can convert into restaurant vouchers? That would assist!

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 08/10/2020 08:02

We've done NHM, transport museum, tower bridge, science museum. My tcb and clubcard vouchers have been depleted unfortunately. Although to be fair my dc would be happy with McDonald's or take away pizza in the hotel room. I'm guessing there's not many exhibitions on but I'll have a look at the Tate modern and British museum.

It's really windy here!

Fluffy if I ever get to go on holiday today you should come and house sit, there's so much round here I think your dc would love!

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2020 08:08

Oh, we'd love that! The kids love to cat sit (we occasionally do so for anther MNer)!

Morning. It's grey and miserable here - not looking forward to taking the dog out at lunch time.

I've blocked an hour out of my calendar today which I want to use to make the last poppy (my mum asked for 5 for her and her friends). This should be a 2 birds 1 stone situation because my work give you time each week to get away from screens and work (it's a MH well being thing) and I haven't been using mine.
Plan after work is takeaway for tea (I'm so excited, we're having curry), and online shopping.
I'm also planning a trip to town on Sat - I need boots and want to try some on so I'll look for some and wander around looking for inspiration for Christmas at the same time.

Sorry MrsMad, I'm with fluffy on the bacon. I only really like smoked streaky bacon and have to have it done in the griddle pan too.

Your trip sounds fun Wreck.

I'm trying to think of somewhere DH & I can go for a few days (cheaply) as we were meant to be going away at half term but our flights were cancelled and we want to save most of the money incase we are able to move soon.

pussycatinboots · 08/10/2020 08:45

I do bacon on a tray in the oven until it goes crispy. 🐷

I'm sure it's going darker...it's bucketed it down overnight. Off to Agros this morning to collect the Christmas Wasgij Jigsaw. 🧩

NerosFiddle · 08/10/2020 09:05

Wreck I'm a member of HRP so let me have a look what I can do for you.

I only do bacon in the oven. It's too greasy done in the frying pan. Don't get me started on the microwave. Sorry not sorry Mrs.

Crazy did you watch Delia yesterday?

Fluffy you can get special socks for running to keep the heat in and circulation but they're £££.

My GH was dispatched last week but still no sign of it

Mrsmadevans · 08/10/2020 09:05

London sounds amazing Wreck
😃
Fire have a good gander when it comes 😃
Fluffy bacon done in micro doesn't compare l agree but we do it because we can't be arsed 😅
Not many Covid cases here ATM. Thank God 🙏 no lockdown fingers crossed.
DFS have reneged on Dd2 sofa delivery moved from 22 Nd October to 4th November c'est la vie , tiny problem 😃

FireflyGirl · 08/10/2020 11:17

We do bacon on the George Foreman. My mum does hers under the grill. Such a versatile foodstuff Grin

Look what Mr Postman just delivered! That's the rest of my morning planned - DH will have to sort his own lunch!

Countdown to Christmas 2020 (Thread 11): The One with the Three Freezers
BiddyPop · 08/10/2020 11:28

Morning, we have some sun here, but plenty of cloud trying to hide it. And more rain threatened later.

The meeting I thought was today is not until Monday, so I don't need to go into town, but will be in twice next week instead. I might go for a walk this afternoon instead as the cleaners are due (it's been a month) and I want the room I use as the office to get done (they can have us in the house, but we stay in the room we are in with the door closed, and they don't do that/those room(s) - as a Covid measure).

CrazyBaubles · 08/10/2020 12:13

Neros I did watch Delia. Please don't banish me from the thread - I didn't like it. She makes me think of a 'Life Skills' teacher I had, sort of old fashioned and stern.
I may have to stick with JO.

We've had some system issues today. Mine crashed and I was told to log off for an hour so I've done the kitchen and crocheted the last poppy. Just stems / leaves to go, but we're back up and running now so I'm walking the dog in my lunch break as it has brightened up now and cracking on with work this afternoons

WreckTangled · 08/10/2020 12:38

Oh thanks neros!

Still miserable weather here.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/10/2020 13:57

It's increasingly sunny here. North wind though, so bastard cold!

I watched GBBO, but somehow missed who left and who got Star Baker. All4 wouldn't get me back to the right place though, so couldn't watch it again! 🙄

I got mine too fire! So excited to read it.
