Or am I alone in this? :) Thought I may find a kindred spirit in the Christmas topic.

It all started with the book people sale, The bargains were too good to resist, So I bought a few bits and pieces to put away for Christmas.

This cheered me up no end, So I then bought £20 worth of stocking fillers from Rex London.

I may have added a couple of bits to my tesco order to put in the 'Save for Christmas' box (Jar of mincemeat and 2 boxes of toffifee)

I think I'll go and read my Christmas chronicles book now.

I love Christmas but it’s baking hot weather in May! Can’t think about present shopping yet

Blackbear19 · 27/05/2020 00:15

Ok, my mindset has changed since I put my first (very judgy-pants) post on.

My head is turning to Christmas and while I still wouldn't buy Christmas stuff at the moment. I've certainly bought my fair share of non-essential stuff on line in the last few week.

I've got a couple of ideas for DS1 but struggling to find ideas for DS2.

blacksmiths09 · 28/05/2020 08:10

Absolutely LOVE the thought of meandering around a nice Christmas market in a town that's twinkling with Festive lights and smells.

Seems a lifetime away at the minute.

Unshriven · 28/05/2020 08:15

I am! Xmas Grin

I bought an Animal Crossing themed Switch because it's certain to end up on a letter to Father Christmas, and I couldn't face the trauma if it becomes hard to find.

I'm also buying books and games if I see any reduced.

And plush toys and things from HK/China with long lead times.

Blackbear19 · 28/05/2020 11:04

Unshriven 8 months is a long time for it to lie in a cupboard. And 8 months of your guarantee lost.

I know many are totally against my logic but I give my DS his Xbox now, now is when he's bored in the house with limited contact with friends I saw it as opening up another communications channel for him.
Christmas will be an extra controller, extra games, and a 12mth subscription. He'll has a subscription that will take him to then.

It's my 3/4 year old that I'm struggling for ideas for.

Unshriven · 28/05/2020 11:51

I know Blackbear but Christmas is a big deal in our house.

We don't really buy toys/gadgets throughout the year, so we try to get them things they really want at Christmas.

They seem to prefer it that way, it's what they are used to I guess.

If I presented them with a Switch randomly during the year, or on a birthday, they'd think someone was dying or something. Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/05/2020 12:27

Move have you eaten the Toffifee yet ? ( I would) Xmas Grin

Blackbear19 · 28/05/2020 12:37

Unshriven It's not something I would ordinarily do either. But this isn't exactly normal times. I could see my DS getting more and more depressed and missing friends.

Dk20 · 28/05/2020 12:40

I've decided what the baby will be getting for Christmas - a motorised ride on jeep/car/tractor. He will be 18 months by then. Now i know this I'm on the lookout for one Smile
Ds(6) is going to have harder as his birthday is in September and all the bits I buy i will be tempted to give him for his birthday Blush
He is a big F1 fan so I managed to get a few bits they had on offer on the website, they should be arriving in the next few days

megletthesecond · 28/05/2020 12:53

I'm thinking about autumn birthdays and Xmas. Mine will mainly want money but I'd like to get a few small items in. Hopefully from small companies and local shops.

Dk20 · 28/05/2020 20:59

I just bought a battery operated ride on jeep for dBaby, saw a really good sale and managed to get one half price (with personalised number plates), so thats his big present sorted Grin
It should be easy enough to pick up small things for him throughout the year - cars, books, pyjamas so that will just leave me with ds 6 to buy for.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/05/2020 21:46

@Dk20, does your DS have a favourite team? They're really good at sending signed photos if you contact them. Worth a shot if he has a favourite driver.

I bought another Lego set (discontinued Lego Batman one) for DS last week. And I got some books from Lowplex too. Now I'm stopping as I'm saving for Christmas so don't want to buy too much now!

Dk20 · 29/05/2020 11:20

@nowordforfluffy
I didn't know that, have just looked it up and found the address. Thank you Smile

MovinOnUp · 29/05/2020 13:27

@70isaLimitNotaTarget The toffifee that DP found under the bed and gave to the DC? I didn't even get one :(

Still waiting on my book people order, I'll chase it up next week as our puppy arrives tomorrow and I can't think of anything else right now :) :)
Hmm.....Best find better hiding places for christmas confectionery as if DP doesn't find it, The puppy will. :)

Ooh, puppy! Pics tomorrow please @MovinOnUp 🐶

MovinOnUp · 29/05/2020 13:39

I have got the children's advent calendars, Arrived today.
Old-fashioned picture ones with lots of glitter.

So, They've got advent calendars, Enough wee bits and bobs to fill a stocking each, Books (IF the book people order ever arrives), There's a jar of mincemeat in the cupboard to make mince pies and if that's all I am able to get for them then I'm okay with that.

So if the shit hits the fan financially, We'll still have a fab Christmas.

I really don't know what will happen with mine and DP's jobs going forward, So I won't be buying the big santa present anytime soon but over the next few months I should be able to get them their something they want, Something they need, Something to wear, Something to read.
