Anyone else cheering themselves up by Christmas shopping?

Or am I alone in this? :) Thought I may find a kindred spirit in the Christmas topic.

It all started with the book people sale, The bargains were too good to resist, So I bought a few bits and pieces to put away for Christmas.

This cheered me up no end, So I then bought £20 worth of stocking fillers from Rex London.

I may have added a couple of bits to my tesco order to put in the 'Save for Christmas' box (Jar of mincemeat and 2 boxes of toffifee)

I think I'll go and read my Christmas chronicles book now.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget Well said :)
It did feel a bit like Christmas waiting on him right enough.

Hes so cute @MovinOnUp
I had lots of deliveries today, the big one is my babys main present. Had my older ds out in the paddling pool so he didn't see it arriving!

MovinOnUp · 03/06/2020 09:00

@Dk20 Thank you :)
Good weather and paddling pools are great distractions :)

Me, I've bought a few bits from argos toy clearance today. I had to have some serious words with myself to not go overboard and think carefully and not just buy because they were half price. Really happy with what I bought though, Included were 3x swim and dive barbie sets. Each girl will get the bath doll, some new pjs (already purchased in next/m&s sale) a bath bomb and a book. The weather turning has definitely got me organised today, christmas journal is out.

Elenorrigbywoes · 03/06/2020 17:46

I saw a box of Lego on Amazon last week for £16 and snapped it up to put away for Christmas. I never shop this early!
I think I am going to try and pick up a few bits and put them away. I have a lot of nieces and nephews to buy for. I wish I bought two boxes of the Lego!

MovinOnUp · 07/06/2020 20:07

One of my two book people orders have arrived :)
Couple of things were out of stock but a really great haul.

I haven't started buying - my kids would change their minds a lot between now and then. But I have opened one of those accounts that skims the change off transactions and saves it for you - got over £100 towards Christmas now. Also DH has a savings scheme at work for Christmas.
I'm also prepping the house a bit, so doing some decorating, clearing out the junk, so the place looks nicer in time for the tree etc. This stuff needed doing anyway but Christmas is a motivator.

I find it helpful to think about something happy in the future, since at the moment it's all so bleak. I will be having a pared down Christmas though - I kind of wanted to do that anyway, since I spent an arm and a leg last year and I really need to save for bathroom/kitchen work. But I have realised that I really don't need to spend tons of money to have a good Christmas. My DC are older so I'm planning to get them one 'good' present, rather than loads of stocking filler types. DS wants a new watch, for example. For stockings we always do unusual sweets that you don't get all year.
Hope you are enjoying the puppy OP and good luck with the planning

MovinOnUp · 18/07/2020 15:34

Very much enjoying the puppy....Although I'm not sure my Christmas tree will survive this year....He is an absolute land shark (but just adorable)

Omg no, I can't even think about the C word at the moment!

Shitfuckoh · 18/07/2020 16:04

I usually buy things the DC will like early, helps spread the cost (single parent, 3DC and 'Santa' falls solely to me!)

I've purchased a few Lego sets for my 6yo so far as well as a few stocking fillers.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/07/2020 17:21

@Lemonmaid, maybe don't hang out on the Christmas board then! Xmas Grin

@NoWordForFluffy I didn't realise it's the Christmas board, thanks for pointing that out! I'll leave now! Grin

@MovinOnUp I haven't started shopping yet, but have started putting a plan together for presents for DD 9 and DS 3. I popped into Smyths today following a grocery shop, and have lots of ideas. To be honest, I'm waiting for the Smyths annual toy deal (spend £100, get £20 off) but will buy as soon as that starts. The children's main present this year will be mountain bikes; we will buy those much closer to Christmas. I also love The Book People and still have lots stashed away following a big order I put in when it was firsr apparent they'd be going into administration. Got the Harry Potter audio book set, the Worst Witch set and lots more. Have you looked at Wicked Uncle for present ideas? www.wickeduncle.co.uk

NoMoreJunk · 19/07/2020 02:27

Iv done alot of Christmas shopping so far 🎅🎁

squeekums · 19/07/2020 02:45

I've already got a switch, some games, Lego and building robots for dd. I've never had so much so early
Go me, I'm organised
And I didn't pay anything, bought it all on gift cards from online surveys lol

Goldenphoenix · 19/07/2020 08:19

I have picked up loads for Christmas so far, lots of bargains to be had. I feel happier knowing i have some presents for birthdays and Christmas just in case we are locked back down again in Winter, it eases my anxiety! Plus i like spreading the cost over the year, it isn't clear if i will keep my job so happy to do it while I have the money

BiddyPop · 19/07/2020 10:05

Usually I have some shopping done by now, but not this year.

But I have been doing more crafting then usual, and have high hopes that materials I have bought (some going back up to 10 years) for specific projects may be completed for their intended recipients this year.

A pile of different sized cushion for 1 house.

A set of placemats and napkins for another.

Tote bags for lots.

Cross stitched bookmarks.

Cotton knitted facecloths personalised for DAunts and DUncles.

Lap blanket for elderly DUncle.

Dolly blankets for various DNieces (although the original DNieces are too old now, but newer ones have arrived).

A handbag for a DSis (that is the least likely admittedly).

So we'll see how well I keep doing (in between masks for various family and also furnishings for a few redecorated rooms in our and 1 other family house).

lexloofah · 19/07/2020 17:44

I have put aside a few small gift things and have booked tickets for one of the outdoor illuminated trails we usually do at Christmas, cheered me up a bit

McQueensMuse · 19/07/2020 19:28

It is cheering isn't it.
For my DC, I still need to get something to wear and something they want, I'm thinking dressing gown for the wear part (maybe those giant hoodie type things) for their something they want, I usually pick the 2nd thing off of their letter to Santa so that can wait until end of November.
I got a great deal on pre-lit garlands from qvcuk a few weeks ago, I'm hoping they will have some nice things in their Christmas in July event. (I wish I could order from the American website, The Christmas stuff is so much better)

Cherryrainbow · 19/07/2020 22:34

Bought for the OH already! He recently asked if I could get more Tolkien books for him. Whsmith have had so much % off orders recently so I managed to get 3 paperback Tolkien books for just under £20, much cheaper than if I had got them from Amazon or Waterstones x

TimeWastingButFun · 19/07/2020 22:40

I've started Christmas shopping! I'm not very busy at the moment and have the time and who knows what stocks will be like later in the year...

CrimeCantCrackItself · 20/07/2020 15:51

Yes! I've started today! I usually start in July anyway and aim to be finishing/just buying bits by November.

Only one DC (although I've just, literally yesterday, found out I'm pregnant) and I really scaled back who I buy for the last couple of years, and even then it's "token" things (although thoughtful, not rubbishy stuff).

Elenorrigbywoes · 20/07/2020 19:09

I have started picking up bits for their stockings - this is their favourite part of Christmas morning. They like things like bathbombs, socks, underwear, sweets, bouncy ball, book etc. I always try to have a little wow item if I can. I get about 10 little items each and I have picked up some items already which will make things easier in December. I've made a list of things I've bought on my phone which I would not have done previously - it might be the first year that I am fully organised early! I bought some Predator football boots for DS in the next size as one of his presents as they were on sale and I know he will love them.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 21/07/2020 14:07

I've bought some bits for Christmas already too! Got some lol dolls in argos clearance and got a great second hand lol bargain. Will be preordering a new omg lol doll my daughter has fallen in love with and seen a luna doll from Harry Potter which I'm going to buy for dd2.

Dd1 is a bit more tricky as shes starting secondary school in Sept, right now she still loves playing with toys but I'm sure that will change. Her birthday in November we are thinking a laptop so will get that on black Friday :)

MovinOnUp · 21/07/2020 22:26

@CrimeCantCrackItself Congratulations :)
