What do you do xmas eve?

There isn't much on here on xmas eve.
Last year we went to panto but have done that already. The year before I think we went to the zoo as we had an annual pass but no longer do.
We have book breakfast with Santa but will be done with that by 12. I might get some bits to make ferarro rocher trees for the xmas table. We will do a film bath and bed in the evening but the afternoon is looking a bit boring!
What is everyone else doing?

It'll be a nice walk, no actual shopping to do but a nose in charity shops, lunch out, home for an Xmas movie, hot chocolate and yearly take out. :)

UndertheCedartree · 24/12/2019 00:09

My DC are at a Christmas party/sleepover tonight so not picking them up til 11am but will have a cuppa with my friend so won't be home til 12. I'll get the DC to help with some Christmas dinner prep and then they have a gingerbread house to build and decorate. We'll go to church at 4pm then when we get back they'll have baths and put onsies on while I make supper - soup, camembert and baguette. Got a pandoro for dessert and strawberries and cream. After eating we'll watch the Muppet's Christmas carol and then I read them Twas the night before Christmas. They'll hang their stockings and put out mince pie and carrot and then head to bed...to hopefully fall asleep quickly so I can fill the stockings!

haswin · 24/12/2019 00:22

Run around like an ba fly getting the place ready for xmas day, then collapsing in front of the box to watch a xmas carol.

lilybunnyc · 24/12/2019 00:23

My children are still quite small (1 and 3). We spend the morning baking and puttering at home, then go to my in-laws for dinner after their nap. We set out the mince pies and carrots for Father Christmas, and they get new pajamas. We might keep them up late for the candlelight service at church this year, but they may not make it! They love their routine and sleep, so I’m loathe to do anything to disturb that and spoil Christmas. After the children are asleep, my husband and I drink champagne and finish up with all the preparations like filling stockings. Christmas Eve is the best day of the season!

FiveNightsAtMummys · 24/12/2019 00:25

I'll cook and prep food in the morning, quick clean as it's already clean ish. Dress table ready, go out for tea, Christmas eve boxes, baths, movies with snacks and then I'll lie in bed till about 4am unable to sleep listening to everyone snore

kazza446 · 24/12/2019 00:27

We will have a lazy morning, out for a fell walk after lunch, church and the village pub for a quick drink with friends then home for snacks and a film. Love Christmas Eve!

sam221 · 24/12/2019 01:14

We do our main Christmas dinner today, exchange presents afterwards and everyone stays at my place.
During the day we all go into the kitchen help make dinner whilst waiting, we do our annual Christmas competition-which now has its own life force. The kids(all youngish adults in their 20s!) decorate gingerbread houses, they then post it onto their Instragram feed, the most likes in 1 hour wins(massive box of chocs and vouchers!)
They all take it so seriously but it's all a lot of fun!
Have a lovely ChristmasXmas Smile

Normally we would go for a walk at the RSPB reserve and visit the cafe etc. However we had a very busy day yesterday and DS has requested to stay home today. He may change his mind later but for now we will have a day of watching TV and playing at home. We will attend Christingle at 4.

MrsWhites · 24/12/2019 07:54

Lazy PJ day in our house. Lots of Christmas baking, gingerbread house and cookies for Santa for the children and I’ve got the Christmas deserts to do.

Late afternoon baths, new pjs, sprinkling reindeer food and tracking Santa. Once the kids are asleep me and DH will have the annual whispered argument about how he’s making too much noise getting the presents out of the loft 😂

Ragwort · 24/12/2019 07:57

Volunteering this morning, working this afternoon, relaxing at home early evening & then midnight service.

When DS was younger we used to go for a good walk in the morning and child appropriate Church Service in the afternoon.

cherryblossomgin · 24/12/2019 07:58

MotherHeggy · 24/12/2019 08:04

This year we have a sing a long going on at work,so me and son are going to that. Then just a quiet rest of the day.

summer151 · 24/12/2019 08:04

Bug

InMySpareTime · 24/12/2019 08:09

Christingle services at church.
DCs are older now so will be helping with church lighting and lighting the Christingles.
Last year 1100 people went to the 3 services on the 24th, might be even more this year.
Then we order pizza from church and pick it up on the way home.

deplorabelle · 24/12/2019 08:30

@inmysparetime us too!! Christingle is so much work (and fear) then fear again at midnight in case we get a bad influx of drunks (not often but tricky if it happens)

I have a boatload of baking to do before the church marathon begins. It will be after 1am before we are done clearing up and extinguishing candles. Any spare moment will be sent sitting down conserving energy.

Allyg1185 · 24/12/2019 08:37

I'm working. Dh is off with ds 8 not sure what they are doing hopefully it involves big wide open spaces and running around. Apart from that bath, film, reindeer dust and a semi normal bedtime for ds. Got one present hiding at my Mums so need to pick that up and wrap it once ds is in bed

BiddyPop · 24/12/2019 10:41

Once I am finished work, I will head to the sea where DD is doing a sponsored swim.

We'll all go home afterwards, and she will get showered and warmed up. (Or maybe she will be warm enough after and we'll all go for hot choc and a sandwich in a local coffee shop).

Afternoon is spent doing prep for tomorrow - peeling veg, making stuffing etc. DD has always baked cookies on Christmas Eve also, for Santa. Then a relaxed dinner and quiet evening.

Trudee · 24/12/2019 10:53

Always cook my gammon on xmas eve. Dcs have built this years lego decoration which arrived in the xmas eve box this morning. It also contained the latest grinch dvd and Christmas monopoly so that's some activities sorted for later. After tea we'll go for a walk to see the xmas lights then home for xmas bath bomb and read the night before xmas.
Dh and I have a camembert in the fridge which we'll settle down with once dcs are in bed. Never struggle to get them to bed on xmas eve as they are desperate to go to sleep so the morning comes quicker lol

OneToThree · 24/12/2019 10:54

Ice skating, macdonalds and open our family secret Santa presents.

BellatrixLestat · 24/12/2019 11:04

I feel bad now.

We are doing nothing. DH is working all day and I'm not well so really do not have the energy to take 3 young DC out for festive frolicks! Movie day on the sofa for us!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 24/12/2019 11:59

I went shopping at 7am, was back in the house for 10.45am and put the shopping away.

I’ve wrapped a few gifts.

I’ve sent my 2 children for haircuts (age 10 and 13) and a McDonald’s.

I’ve tidied the house now going to clean the house, dh comes home at 3pm then we will do a little more shopping.

At 5am... I am putting the Christmas music and opining the champagne.... Ds’s are Going to set up the Xbox to the projector to play Xbox monopoly with their cousins/friends.... then I’ve got guess who I am game.... for all of us (21 in total) which I can’t wait for Grin

Dh will make a picky tea, slow cooker soup and curry... for tea/guests.

Around 9pm we will do Secret Santa and Christmas Eve boxes ready to watch a Christmas movie yet to be decided by our guests then somehow try and get 8 over excited kids to sleep HmmGrin

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 24/12/2019 12:03

Oh and I’ve forgot to say, Dh is also making hot chocolate in the slow cooker to settle the kids down to sleep when they watch the movie.

Age groups are age 14,13 and 12 year old boys who are very close.

10 and 11 year old boy who should be brothers as they are unbelievable similar in behaviour and hobbies.

13, 9 and 7 year old little girls who have all the above boys under their thumb Grin

DookofBust · 24/12/2019 12:06

Local carol thing (not in church), glass of something with a friend and then onto my family for a big three day Christmas jolly. Can’t wait, it’s the only time I get to see some of them.
