What do you do xmas eve?

There isn't much on here on xmas eve.
Last year we went to panto but have done that already. The year before I think we went to the zoo as we had an annual pass but no longer do.
We have book breakfast with Santa but will be done with that by 12. I might get some bits to make ferarro rocher trees for the xmas table. We will do a film bath and bed in the evening but the afternoon is looking a bit boring!
What is everyone else doing?

Collect the nest from the butcher with my father-in-law at the crack of a sparrow's fart. Spend a lot of the day in the kitchen (happily!) prepping for the Xmas dinner the next day. We get a KFC bucket and watch a cheesy Christmas film with the kids. Love it!

lifeisgoodagain · 22/12/2019 14:07

Working, cooking ... adulthood sucks

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/12/2019 14:09

I go to work.

Then we meet friends and their kids in the pub for and hour before coming home for something to eat and watch a film.

cheesenpickles · 22/12/2019 14:11

The meat even. Lol the kids help with the prep as much as a 4 year old and 2 year old can.

ChidiAnnaKendrick · 22/12/2019 14:15

Breakfast out - down the local pub attached to the premier inn, because it’s cheap, unlimited and the kids adore it. It’s become a tradition since we had DD 6 years ago in December, and I forgot to squeeze in a trip to Santa for her brothers as I was in a baby bubble. Local place was doing breakfast with Santa on Christmas Eve and they loved it so much we’ve gone every year since!

We then go home, to find our elves have left Christmas Eve box - it always contains new PJs, a tree dec and some chocolate. So we snuggle in new PJs and watch Christmas films for the rest of the day. We usually have takeaway or frozen party food for dinner.

Pumpkinbell · 22/12/2019 14:17

Lazy Pj afternoon snuggled on the sofa awaiting DH coming home then off to pub for a drink or 2 before DD xmas eve box, bath and bed enjoy whatever it is you decide to do OP MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

Thesearmsofmine · 22/12/2019 14:20

A run around a park and home to make mince pies for Father Christmas.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/12/2019 14:24

Quite a bit of advance food prep.
A Christmas movie in the afternoon
Roast Ham for dinner
A game of Scrabble or similar

Deelish75 · 22/12/2019 18:04

In the morning DD and I need to go to the supermarket to get the last of the veg and some salad bits for Boxing Day. We'll stop for a hot chocolate/Christmas treat in the cafe.
After lunch I've got a bit of baking to do and then hopefully watch a film.
After dinner (fish and chips) we'll go out and watch the rotary club sleigh doing its round, then take walk around our neighbourhood looking at the house decorations and lights and stop at the shop to buy a lottery ticket.

RhythimIsRhythim · 23/12/2019 07:19

See in-laws, my family, pick up any last food bits, go to art gallery, go for hot chocolate, have a pizza, go to cinema.

ColleysMill · 23/12/2019 07:43

I usually get up early to prep everything for the next day and stick something in the clow cooker for tea and quick tidy round.

Then probably swop presents with our lovely neighbours and meet friends and their dc at the crib service at the village church. Its likely we will probably pop to the pub afterwards for a drink. ;)

If its not too cold and the dc arent too tired then we will go to the Carols round the christmas tree on the village green (most of the village usually turn out for this and so its lovely).

Then home for pjs and Muppets Christmas Carol before bed.

Kissmyaxe · 23/12/2019 07:53

DS2 goes to my DMs to make sausage rolls and other festive goodies (he’s been doing this since he was 2!) DS1 will be out delivering presents with DP and I will spend the day with DD baking and listening to Christmas songs. We them all get together (DM and other family/friends) in the afternoon for a festive buffet, Christmas movies and party games. At some point in the evening our Elf delivers the children’s Christmas Eve boxes which is always magical and leads on to baths with new bath bombs, new pjs and another Christmas movie before heading up to bed to read Night Before Christmas and search the skies. It’s pure magic and I wouldn’t change it!

ColleysMill · 23/12/2019 08:00

Oh i forgot the non lovely christmas things I will do - quick clean of the toilets, make sure spare bed is made up, mop floors, quick vac round downstairs. We are hosting this year.

And lay the table which is fun :)

fruityconfusedhotdog · 23/12/2019 08:03

Go for a long walk to tire them out! DH is working and I'm planning on taking the children (5, 3 and baby) into town to do the Snowman walk (walkingwiththesnowman.co.uk/event/london-bridge-city-2019/). We'll stop somewhere for a hot chocolate then back for Christingle at 4pm, then tea, bath and an early bed.

Skyejuly · 23/12/2019 08:08

Working 8-1 then working 6-10 so will not do much inbetween.

Salene · 23/12/2019 08:09

We are going on a Santa steam train in afternoon then visiting my mother and sister then head home for 5pm , kids will get Xmas eve box, have cheese and crackers and watch a Xmas movie

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/12/2019 08:44

Will be loading up the car with a million things before driving to a dd who is very heavily pregnant, so I've offered to take everything and cook.
I dare say everyone else will go with little Gdcs to lovely little local church for the children's crib service, while I enjoy a bit of P and Q and a glass of mulled wine while I prep the veg. I might go too, though, you never know.

Hope I'll get a chance to either watch or listen to Carols from King's. It's just not Christmas to me without that.

BillHadersNewWife · 23/12/2019 15:08

DH is working but generally the DD"s and I will make cookies and trifles for tea...then we'll just wrap gifts, listen to carols and I'll tidy up a bit more.

The elves visit at some point and there's usually some nice things to occupy the DDs in the bags which they leave.

Later, we walk the dogs through the village and look at the lights.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 23/12/2019 22:51

A last tidy up of the house.
Watch The Snowman, The Snowman & Snowdog & Father Christmas.
Dd1 also has a job interview!
Go to the crib service.
Eat pulled pork rolls & drink mulled wine and open Christmas Eve boxes (pjs, chocolate & bath bomb)
Will also try and fit in something outdoors to wear out the younger ones.
Also prep the veg!

Figgygal · 23/12/2019 22:54

Tomorrow we are seeing Santa then back for muppet Christmas carol, village church at 4

Dh on antibiotics and can't drink so will be baileys solo tomorrow night once kids are asleep

penberrh · 23/12/2019 23:09

Mainly food prepping, some tidying, then at neighbours for early Christmas Eve party, and hopefully kids in bed by nineish. Came down with a rotten cold last night so want to conserve energy!

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 23/12/2019 23:13

McDonald's for lunch and to get reindeer treats, Sainsbury's to choose what DD wants instead of Christmas dinner (she doesn't like roast beef or roast potatoes) and Nectar presents for each of us.

LunaLovesgood · 23/12/2019 23:38

Visit Santa in the morning, KFC for lunch, pick up and decorate the main Christmas tree then family mass in the evening. I LOVE Christmas Eve Grin

Nanna50 · 23/12/2019 23:38

Christmas Eve is always a day time get together with my in-laws. DH’s siblings, partners, kids and grandkids go to his mothers. (Work permitting] We exchange gifts, eat buffet food and play games.

Baileys and food prep when we get home.

blue25 · 23/12/2019 23:46
